I wish I heard more stories and experiences from people that are emotionally avoidant. I don’t hear people sharing about how they struggle with not knowing how they feel, how to communicate their feelings, how they emotionally shut down, hurting others by being emotionally unavailable and how they do things to avoid an emotional connectedness with themselves and others. I mainly hear stories about the impacts that emotionally avoidant people have on others, which are obviously very important experiences to share. Sometimes I feel like having a baseline of being emotionally avoidant is a curse (the real curse is my Venus in Aries). When I was doing my most recent steps 4 / 5 / 6 / 7, I realized that shutting down emotionally is not an ideal I want to live by but one of the few ways I learned how to keep myself safe. I learned that my threshold for emotional pain is low, so I avoid having to feel. I don’t believe that being emotionally avoidant has to be a destiny and people’s attachment styles vary depending on what kind of relationship dynamics they are in. I do believe people have the capacity for change. I want to hear more experiences from people that that are emotionally avoidant who get emotionally healthy, who hurt people but also make amends (whether amends are accepted or not) and actually learn to live with their state. I’m so grateful to all the friends who will hear my shit, callout my BS without shaming me and generously share their experience of being abused and hurt. I don’t have many people in my life that I would consider to be close friends. Last night, the Sacred Setting(s) opening raised $270 for the Toronto Overdose Prevention Society. I sold 2 prints, Jess B. aka @foxfire.exe generously all her tips from tarot readings and a big mason jar was filled with cash. Thank you to everyone that attended the opening and contributed to the cause. I have 4 prints that are 8 X 12 for sale at $30-50 CAD each which would all go to supporting TOST.
