Thinks about those absolutely agonizing moments for Rook between the end of the battle and knowing Vil would be okay. It had to be really tense. Was Rook holding him while he said this? I like to think so. Was he crying? Praying? It’s nice to consider.

I don’t know how to describe it, because Rook is VERY (one may even say, too) honest about his emotions—he wants to hunt, he thinks Vil looks nice today, he thinks his classmates did a good job, etc. But he rarely shows negative emotions. He usually just describes them—like admitting a time when he was scared.

This one line feels like one of the few times we really see Rook’s whole heart on display. It stands out from the rest of his VA’s performance. I can’t describe why I feel this way, but even if you don’t read their relationship as romantic, it seems like there is so much love in that line, just in the sense that Rook is just so glad to have Vil in his life and just wants to stay at his side as long as he can, and now Vil might not make it. Rook wants Vil to wake up so bad because he has to.

Rook just. really likes and cares about Vil. In his own imperfect way sometimes, but this line tells me it goes so much deeper than vanity.
