Nezha was very excited to get to babysit Jinka. Wukong was too. Whenever Nezha felt emotions too intense for him to contain, he let them out in the form of a song. The one they used to lull Jinka to sleep was one such that Nezha had ringing in his head since he first met him.
Some days the stars align and
Some days the sun don't shine
If you wait for perfectβ timing
You'reβ gonna wait forβ your whole life
And they say itβ doesn't hurt to try
When time is on your side
Wukong had grown comfortable around Jinka, even being willing to babysit solo if need be. Jinzha was just happy that Wukong was finally able to be with Jinka without difficulties.
Some nights a storm is raging
Tonight the wind is still
You never know what's waiting
Over the far side of the hill
If you don't follow what you feel
Then you'll never know what's real
It wasn't a competition, but Nezha was fairly certain he was the favorite uncle. Wukong was the favorite aunt, naturally.
There's a beautiful something
Between the light and the dark
A beautiful something
Right where we are
And it's not the destination
The beginning or the end
It's in the journey of hurting and learning to love again
Little lessons for Jinka put into songs the couple hoped he would remember. Little lessons that they had to learn themselves.
Little moments like right now, being swaddled and set into the bassinet, he'd forget, but they hoped he would never forget the love that went into each action.
Too much of endless pleasure
Turns into senseless pain
Try keep it all together
Hold on too tight and it'll break
Somehow the dream becomes the weight
But there's magic in the chase
Ah, ah
Wukong loved seeing Nezha like this. The sweetness in every aspect of him. The tender touches, as if he held a delicate petal. All beautiful somethings that Wukong had fallen in love with.
There's a beautiful something
Between the light and the dark
A beautiful something
And that's right where we are
And it's not a destination
The beginning or the end
It's in the journey of hurting and learning to love again
Again, again
It's in the journey of hurting and learning to love again
Nezha watched Wukong reset the place after a fun day with Jinka. Despite all of Nezha's pleads, Wukong still kept house in whatever home he found himself in.
Neither of them meant to fall into such roles, but it was a natural consequence of their unique traumas and strengths. Perhaps there was good to be found in it.
The highs will fade to silence
The lows won't last that long
We're only here a while and
Before you know it, we'll be gone
It's in the moment, we belong
Jinka was asleep. Anyone else would have been too, if they'd heard the sweet sound of the Emperor and Empress singing. Red Son wasn't here, but he would give confirmation if asked.
There's a beautiful something
Between the light and the dark
A beautiful something
Right where we are
And it's not a destination
The beginning or the end
It's in the journey of hurting and learning to love again

Nezha decided to use his wheelchair for the first time since his surgery. He could probably use his crutches, but he wanted to save the leg strength.
Using mobility aids again wasn't a problem or a concern as his disability wasn't limited to his heart, he knew he would need it again. Wouldn't affect the day much, Pigsy's was perfectly accessible for them.
Wukong did his hair up in a nice pair of buns. He was so happy that his hair had grown back enough to do a style like his husband's. Nezha made light work of the ribbons that went around them.
Wukong and Nezha had gotten their ears pierced together while Red Son was at camp and had bought a few pairs of matching earrings. The earrings they decided to wear, while not technically matching, were special to them.
Wukong wore daffodil earrings while Nezha wore toadstool mushrooms.
They applied their makeup side-by-side, both putting in slightly more effort than usual of the two.
Nezha: I know it's not technically a party, but!
SWK: It's a celebration. One we waited and fought so long and hard for.
Nezha: You fought long and hard.
SWK: You fought too.
SWK: You fought sleep when I needed attention, you fought everyone who tried to get you to leave me to die, you fought to find doctors who would take me seriously and had my best interests at heart.
SWK: You fought yourself many days.
SWK: You fought your own pride, your selfishness, your dignity... your sense of self-worth or lack thereof.
SWK: You set aside your pride to ask for people to come help me in your stead. You set aside your selfishness to allow my family a chance to have a hand in caring for me. You set aside your dignity in order to make me smile on days I couldn't on my own.
SWK: And throughout it all, I watched you wrestle with your self-worth. I watched you question if you were the right person for the job. You asked yourself repeatedly what made your existence worthwhile and what it might mean if you failed me or anyone in any aspect.
SWK: And I watched you come out the other side a better man. I never knew you could get any better, I had already thought you perfect, yet here you are!
SWK: I'm happy I married you. I'd marry you all over again if you asked it of me. If we could be any more married, I would with you. I love you.
SWK: You fought. You fought for me. I saw you, every step of the way. And I am so proud of you.
Nezha: *tearing up* *half-serious* Please don't make me cry, we just put our makeup on! *starts crying*
SWK: *hugs him* We can cry here. *tearing up* We can fix our makeup when we're done. Together.
~~~
The "dinner" turned into a slight party, as anticipated.
Cake, presents, and a mountain of noodle bowls were a happy sight to be welcomed to. MK opened the door to let Wukong and Nezha in, not touching them but giving a respectful bow as a greeting.
Pigsy, with permission, hugged Wukong as tightly as he dared. Sandy did the same when it was his turn. Tang did his usual gentle hugs, as he didn't like tight hugs unless they were from Pigsy.
Mei and MK made no physical contact, but were still very excited to see Wukong.
Dinner was just like old times. Eating bowls of noodles in a circle while each took turns discussing whatever topic crosses their minds.
Mei wasn't permitted to put on loud music, so Sandy was given control of the soundtrack to the evening. Calm but peppy tunes played one after another.
Nezha was happy to see Wukong so at ease in a group of people that weren't relatives.
Nezha took his eyes off Wukong for just a moment and noticed Sandy's T-shirt. Then he noticed that everyone was wearing one except him and Wukong.
It was a simple design: a black T-shirt that had the letters "F U D.A.V.E!!!" written on it. Mei sat backwards on a chair next to Nezha, giving him a clear view of the back design if he leaned back. The back had a paragraph that read like a speech to the terrible illness that plagued his dear spouse for too long:
"From the moment we knew you were harming our friend, we hated you. You took the strength from their body and the smile from their face. Now that you are gone, we will not miss you. Fuck you, D.A.V.E!!!! Rest in the Underworld, and never show your ugly face again!!!"
Nezha: Any chance I could get one of those shirts?
Sandy: Sure thing! I have many sizes! Enough for the whole family if you'd like to share them with your brothers and your fathers as well. And I have a special one for Wukong, too!
SWK: You do?!
Sandy: I do! *holds up a T-shirt that says "I BEAT D.A.V.E!!!!" on it*
SWK: OOH!!!! Gimme! I wanna wear it!
~~~
Nezha was happy to be wearing the shirt. Even happier to watch Wukong open his presents. Apparently, because they missed a few birthdays and holidays, the noodle gang decided to make up for it now alongside congratulatory presents.
The majority of the presents were flower themed, if not flowers themselves. Tang accidentally gifted Wukong a book about flora that appeared along the route taken on Journey to the West, not knowing it was Wukong who wrote it under a pen name.
That made for a funny story.
It was a welcome gift all the same.

Pigsy: So how ya been since the surgery? Heart transplants are no joke, I hear.
Nezha: I'm doing just fine. I feel so much better than I did prior. I hadn't felt so healthy in the longest time. I didn't realize how bad my heart had gotten until after!
Pigsy: No kidding. Had a hip replaced a while back and it was a game changer. Can only imagine a heart.
Nezha: Indeed. How's your leg? The prosthetic doing okay?
Pigsy: Red Son gave me a new one now that he's "more in tune with anatomy". Still didn't want all the bells and whistles regardless. The new thing is doing me good. *flexes the prosthetic*
Nezha: Neat. If my son could replace my sore legs, I'd let him.
Pigsy: *jokingly* Don't go chopping yer legs off just yet! Darn stump swells and shrinks like you wouldn't believe. And don't even get me started on the phantom pains.
Muzha spent a few nights here-and-there with Erlang, but tonight was the closest they'd ever been. Of course, Muzha couldn't be pushed this close without experiencing a nightmare first.
Muzha had gone to sleep in his newly completed room as he had done a few times now. He'd drifted off with no more trouble than any other night. Erlang had given his last check-ins as he always did.
It wasn't some fantastical, over-the-top, worse than the world ending scenario either. But it was somehow earth shattering all the same to him, not that he wanted to admit it.
Muzha dreamt that Erlang rejected him and no longer wanted him as a son.
For the first few minutes after waking up, all Muzha could do was curl up and cry in his bedding.
It hurt as if it were true. All of the pain and heartbreak felt like reality even though Muzha knew the waking truth.
But the mere thought, the mere possibility of the dream coming true, it was all so much. Far too much.
When Muzha could no longer bear the pain, he crept with his favorite blanket up to Erlang's room.
~~~
Erlang didn't always sleep in the same room of the house, neither did his fiancees. All part of being in a relationship like theirs. It was hard to cram seven sleeping men comfortably in one room and expect them all to sleep well.
But when their sons were home? The same room each time, just so their sons could find him.
Nezha grew used to the room-switching, so they stopped doing it with him long ago, but until the two other boys were comfortable and confident in their home, Erlang would remain in his designated room.
Funny to think, his firstborn was now his youngest son.
~~~
In the dead of night, Erlang awoke to the slightest creak of the door opening. It no longer took much to wake Erlang, not since the role of "father" fully seeped into every fiber of his being. Funny how such a role could rewrite your mind like that.
Erlang picked up his head from Li's shoulder to see Muzha's tear-filled eye peaking in. Erlang shifted his weight to his now proped up arm and welcomed Muzha in with his free arm.
Muzha, quietly as possible, slunk over to Erlang's side of the bed.
Muzha: Can I sleep in here? I had a nightmare.
Erlang: You are always welcome here. Come, sleep next to me.
Muzha nestled in next to him. Erlang adjusted his blanket over Muzha and held him close. Erlang brushed his fingers across Muzha's forehead, just as Nezha enjoyed. Perhaps Muzha would like it too.
A sigh of relief from Muzha was a confirmation.
Erlang: Shhhhh. It's okay. I'll keep you safe from whatever monsters haunted your nightmares tonight. Not even Wukong in his prime could defeat me, what chance does any ill-meaning soul have against me?
Muzha: I didn't dream of any monster.
Erlang: No? What spooked you, my son, if you wouldn't mind sharing?
Muzha: I dreamt of you.
Erlang picked up his head in shock. How could he haunt his own son? Had he done something wrong? He thought he was doing well by Muzha, what could have gone wrong?
Erlang: How? What did you dream?
Muzha: I dreamt you left me alone to die. That you didn't love me anymore. *sniffing* That you never truly wanted me.
Erlang: Oh, son. I love you. I will never leave you, I promise. I will love you for eternity. I will always want you, my son, and I am so sorry if I did anything to make you think otherwise-
Muzha: You didn't! I was- ... I'm just scared you might not one day, like Father did.
Erlang: I won't. I vow to you with all that I am that I will love you eternally as your parent. May the Ten Kings of the Underworld punish me endlessly if I ever break my vow to you, my son.
Erlang: You are my son. For now and forevermore until the end of time. I will promise and remind you of that until every minute, most miniscule portion of your mind knows without a semblance of a doubt that you are mine.
Muzha: Thank you, Baba.
~~~
Li woke up way closer to the edge of the bed than he used to be. He looked over Erlang's shoulder to see a sleeping Muzha in his arms. He looked so peaceful in his partner's arms, curled up with his favorite blanket next to his face.
Muzha, like his brothers, slept mouth slightly open and otherwise in a soft and delicate position, like a small child.
Unique to him, Muzha also slept with his hands close to his face. It looked like his thumbs touched his lips lightly, but they did not appear to have been sucked on. In his closed fists were his favorite blanket, being held ever closer for comfort.
Erlang looked over his shoulder at his partner.
Erlang: Beautiful, isn't he?
Li: Very. Surprised the old pagoda general could make three flawless sons in a row. Are we sure they're his?
Erlang: Unfortunately, yes. I marvel at his abilities too. I chose to blame the mother's genetics for the more beautiful aspects, though.
Erlang: He might awaken any minute. You should go put pants on, love.
Li: Wha- Dammit, again?! In front of the kid?!
Erlang: You act as if this is a new thing.
~~~
RS: Hey, Mum?
SWK: Yes, Cai- Where are your pants?
RS: That's the thing, I don't know!
SWK: Oh no, it's spreading.
RS: Yep. I went to sleep with pants on, and poof! I wake up and they're gone!
SWK: I'm telling your Baba. I'm sure he'll find this more exciting than I do.
RS: On the bright side, I can now experiment with the parameters of the pants curse!
SWK: *semi-sarcastically* Well, have fun with that!
~~~
Nezha: YES!!!!! ANOTHER!!!!
SWK: Yeah, any idea where his pants are?
Nezha: Not in the slightest! :D
SWK: -_-
Nezha: I'm gonna go tell my dad, he'll be super excited about it!
~~~
Li: *over the phone* ANOTHER!!!!!
Nezha: ANOTHER!!!!!!
Li: ANOTHER!!!!
Nezha: ANOTHER!!!!
*this continues for ten more minutes*
~~~
Muzha: *watching Li repeat "another" very loudly with Nezha over the phone*
Jinzha and Muzha were close, being only three years apart in age. They did pretty much everything together.
They had a normal upbringing, genuinely had it good and Li Jing was a decent father back then when he wasn't away doing military general stuff for months on end, if not years. (Not Li Jing's choice)
The brothers went off to learn Buddhism and took their vows of celibacy together. It became a bonding point for them. They had a fun taste of adulthood while being able to rely on each other and their parents if it came to that.
Post-Nezha:
Shit hit the fan in the worst way possible. Home life imploded.
Muzha took their father's side in blaming Nezha for everything, Jinzha sided with their mother, reasoning that Nezha was just an innocent child. (He was a toddler at this point)
Pre-teen Nezha:
Pretty much an open secret that Li Jing beats Nezha at this point. Muzha thinks he deserves it, Jinzha less so. (Depends on how badly/if Nezha lashed out prior)
Disagreements regarding Nezha drove Muzha and Jinzha apart, but not to the point of being total enemies.
Neither of them have any sort of real relationship with Nezha. They both still live in another town than their youngest brother.
Post-Ao Bing fight & Nezha suicide:
Jinzha caves and is no longer brave enough to stand up for Nezha, but grieves him in his own way
Muzha pretends like he completely agrees with Li Jing but secretly regrets not doing more for Nezha
Both brothers move back in with their parents, not wanting their mother to be alone in her grief
They watch their mother grow sickly and pass away during that time and grieve her together
The brothers reconcile after so long, but neither one changes their ways
Post-Nezha resurrection & acsention:
Jinzha and Muzha stay with their father for a while. They both get to know Nezha during this time
Li Jing becomes more subtle in his abuse methods and teaches Nezha that he will be punished if anyone finds out he is still being beaten at home, even his brothers. Nezha becomes more closed off from his brothers as a result
Even after Jinzha and Muzha move out, the brothers are never exactly close. At most, they go shopping for school supplies together
Jinzha and Muzha start to reconnect more, but not by much
Post-custody battle:
Elder Li Brothers are forced into no-contact with Nezha until he becomes a legal adult
Things become tense between the remaining Li boys and their father, both having believed that Li Jing had ended the physical abuse towards Nezha
Nezha starts living a happy life with Erlang and rarely thinks about his brothers
Nezha ages out:
Li Jing still under restraining order until "proof" of change
Erlang no longer legally has Nezha, but Nezha still lives with him
Brothers still are no-contact, but only because no one bothers to open the line of communication
Li Jing "proves himself":
Nezha takes a chance and moves back in with Li Jing
Brothers finally talk with Nezha again
Li Jing starts paying more attention to Nezha than the other two. Jinzha doesn't mind but Muzha is furious and takes it out on Nezha
Dynamics stay the same even after Nezha moves out
Enter FloaPS
Post-Adoption:
Brothers finally form a fully healthy dynamic from all sides
Peace in the family for the first time since before Nezha's birth
Nezha nearly had a panic attack at the sound of Wukong having a coughing fit.
Nezha scooped up Wukong and patted his back in an attempt to get him to stop. It didn't help, but the coughing stopped on its own. Wukong sniffled a bit before speaking.
SWK: Nezhie, I'm fine.
Nezha: No, you clearly are not! I'm calling the doctor- no, we had better get you to the hospital right-
SWK: NEZHIE, IT'S JUST A COLD!!!!!
Nezha: Are you sure?! Are you absolutely certain-
SWK: It's not D.A.V.E!!! It's just the cold the Red and his friends brought back from camp! He's been sick too, remember?
Nezha: *sighs* ... Can we at least get you a check-up? Just to be sure?
SWK: If that would soothe your worries, yes.
~~~
Doctor: Yep, just a cold. Tested Red Son too, it's the same one.
Nezha: *huge sigh of relief* *flops back in his chair*
Doctor: He's doing okay. He'll be better before you know it. I'll just give him some cold medicine and I'll be on my way.
SWK: See? It's okay, Nezhie.
Nezha: Oh, thank goodness for that.
Doctor: He'll be just fine, just wait and see. He's going to be okay.
Nezha: Thank goodness.
~~~
Nezha put a cool, wet cloth on Wukong's forehead to help with the ache and fever. He tucked the blanket where he knew Wukong would be comfortable.
He barely ever left Wukong for even a minute.
SWK: I'm gonna be okay, Nezha. You heard the doctor.
Nezha: I know, but... you know.
SWK: Years of near deadly sickness aren't forgotten in a few months.
Nezha: Exactly.
SWK: I'm surprised I didn't get sick sooner now that I'm out and about in public more often than I used to be.
Nezha: Honestly... I guess I am too. I should have known this would happen eventually. Sickness is a part of life, whether we like it or not. I suppose I should have been more prepared for a minor illness to befall you.
SWK: That's okay. I don't blame you. I'd have pissed myself if I were you.
Nezha: I nearly did.
~~~
RS: Mum's sick???!!!
Nezha: It's just a cold! He'll be okay.
RS: I didn't give it to her, did I?
Nezha: You might have. It was either you or one of your friends. It doesn't matter who gave it to him. He's going to be fine.
RS: She'd better be, I don't know what I'd do if she wasn't.
~~~
Pigsy: QUIT SQUIRMING SO I CAN GIVE YOU YOUR MEDICINE!!!!!!!
MK: *wrapped in a blanket in Sandy's arms* NEVER!!!!!! *wiggles violently*
Sandy: I take it this is gonna delay the celebration dinner?
Pigsy: *groans* Unfortunately, yeah. Apparently, Wukong's not doing much better than MK. Same illness as him, though, so Wukong should be fine. He's in good hands. AND IS A LOT MORE COOPERATIVE THAN SOME PEOPLE!!!!!
"That is the last time I'm working as a camp counselor!"
"I'm surprised you did that at all."
"Caishen talked me into it. Da-xia too."
Wukong set a large plate of snacks down in the center of their dining table. It was rare for Red Son to have friends over, but his parents never minded when he did.
They somewhat verbally fumbled over each other telling Nezha about their experiences at camp the past week. They tried to give each other space to talk, though.
From what Wukong gathered, the boys cabins were little more than glorified communal tents while the girls got cabins that were more adjacent to full houses.
Red Son and Caishen weren't exactly thrilled about it.
Caishen: Don't get me wrong, I enjoy roughing it, but having to take a mile-long walk to the main campus was a pain. Especially before meals.
RS: And don't even get us started on the boy's bathrooms!
Caishen: Gods, it was so bad.
RS: The campus and the bathrooms were so much worse than when we went there as campers last year!
Caishen: I considered peeing in a bush a few times.
DX: *sips her tea* That's rough, buddy.
Caishen: *sarcastically* You think?
Nezha: Was there anything you all actually enjoyed at least a little bit?
Caishen: Hanging out with the campers was honestly the best part. I got good kids.
RS: Honestly, I did too. As much as I complain, it was more the circumstances than the actual job that I hated. Those boys had quite good heads on their shoulders.
DX: The kids were my favorite part too. I got to hug my littlest every morning and it would make my day every time.
RS: My- I think he was the second eldest camper in my group? Anyway, I was helping him with his archery skills and he did so good! I was so proud of him.
Caishen: Yeah, my pipsqueaks were doing great at some of the stuff they had there. They were disappointed by the lack of a zipline, though.
DX: So were my girls! The pool times didn't help much, either.
RS: Took too long taking the swim test and ran out of time to play, huh?
DX: Yep *pops*
RS: Same here.
Caishen: Food was... decent, I guess?
DX: If it wasn't cross-contaminated, that is.
RS: Oh right, you had an allergic reaction halfway through, didn't you?
DX: Yeah, still have a bit in my system. So forgive me if you run out of tissues while I'm here.
SWK: Would you like more tea, sweetie? I can brew up some that'll help you!
DX: That sounds good, yes please. *slides her teacup over to him*
SWK: I'll go make you some.
~~~
RS: So there we are, lost in the dark looking for a location that none of us had on any of our maps, by the way, and I start wondering if we're even still on the campgrounds-
SWK: Dinner's ready!
RS: Already?
Caishen: Yeah, we've been talking here a while. We might need to head back soon.
SWK: If it's getting too late, you guys can stay the night, it's no problem!
DX: I gotta head home after dinner. My parents will be mad I missed curfew.
Caishen: Still? You're an adult now!
DX: Try telling them that! It's always "you have to act more mature and make better decisions" and "you can't do that, you listen to me, I'm the parent"! Ugh. I've almost saved up enough to move out, though.
Nezha: You can move into Heaven if you'd like. We're not short on housing at it wouldn't be too difficult to get you proper citizenship since you already work here.
Caishen: Maybe we can be roommates! I've been looking into moving closer to work too! Hey, Red, you want in?
RS: Well, I was planning on getting a place of my own here. Still have yet to talk to my fiance about it, though.
SWK: Still? Peony, you ought to talk to him!
RS: I know, but I keep getting distracted by whatever he ends up rambling about in the moment. Plus I still have yet to tell him you're well again.
SWK: Well, you'd better get on that or I will. I know you said you wanted to be the one to tell him, but I don't want to keep Pigsy waiting by proxy.
Nezha: Set up a meeting with him! Wukong and I do that when we want to talk about important plans.
SWK: Just be sure your partner knows they're not in trouble and that you just want to plan stuff with them. Nearly scared the life out of my husband the first time I did.
Nezha: Can confirm that!
RS: Okay, I'll do just that. I'm sure you'll know when it happens because MK rarely keeps information to himself for long.
SWK: I'm sure Pigsy will give me an earfull the second he finds out.
~~~
Pigsy: *over the phone* WADAYA MEAN YOU'VE GOT BETTER MONTHS AGO AND I'M ONLY FINDING OUT NOW??????!!!!!!!!
SWK: I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I just had enough of people fussing over me! I didnβt want to be smothered again.
Pigsy: *sighs* Okay, that's fair. But at the very least, let me throw you a victory dinner. On the house. You've earned it.
SWK: Okay, okay! But just our group, okay?
Pigsy: Just our group. No one else. Promise.
SWK: Good. I look forward to it.
~~~
Pigsy: I SAID "JUST A DINNER"!!!! THAT'S WHAT I TOLD WUKONG!!!!!!
Sandy: We know, Pigsy. And we won't invite anyone else. Promise. But c'mon! This is a reason to celebrate! We've been waiting for this for ages! Wukong even longer.
Mei: I'm thinking a biiiiiiiiig banner saying "FUCK YOU D.A.V.E.!!!!" written all over it!
MK: And T-shirts! Please let's have T-shirts!
Mei: You got it, Monkey Man!
Sandy: Way ahead of you both! *gets T-shirts out of seemingly nowhere*
Tang: *looks at one of the t-shirts* Wow! You really thought ahead on this, didn't you, Sandy?
Soft tagging @blockcat-safari, @jackdraw-spwrite, @cityofangeisislying, @audioeidolon, @venusplantt, @bardicc-inspo and @voidindite in case they would like to play along :)

"I leave them on "go ask your Baba" for one day and their car gets flipped?!"
"Seems like it."
Kang triple-checked the security footage from the library. Sure enough, it truly looked like an accident. Another drunk driver going off the rails behind the wheel.
Erlang wasn't too convinced, though.
Erlang: Call me superstitious, but it feels like our son and son-in-law befall misfortune more often than to be a coincidence.
Kang: We haven't been able to find any connections between this and any other bad event in their lives, but yeah, I see your point. Those two seem to have more than just bad luck.
Erlang: And I've looked at them with my third eye numerous times. Neither of them are cursed in any capacity!
Kang: Those two can't seriously be that unfortunate, can they?
Erlang: *rubs his forehead* I really don't know at this point.
~~~
Muzha: I don't know what disturbs me more: that stuff like this is a regular occurrence for you two or that neither of you seem to care!
Nezha: You get used to it after a while.
SWK: Honestly, I'm just glad no one in our family got hurt.
Muzha: But isn't that a lot to deal with?!
Nezha: Why do you think my hair went white?
Muzha: ... fair enough.
SWK: I hope we didn't disturb your father-son time with Erlang.
Muzha: You didn't. We had a pretty good time. I enjoyed it.
~~~
Erlang offered for the younger couple to stay with him for the night, to which Nezha and Wukong agreed. This was probably the first time Muzha had heard the two have a conversation about anything relatively normal or relationship related.
SWK: Do you want to purchase the new car solo or using our joint account? I'm fine with either, but I'm not the driver here.
Nezha: I think I'll use my account. I have enough on my own without needing to break into savings.
Nezha: Do you have any opinions on what type of vehicle I get?
SWK: Why would I? I don't know anything about cars and again, I can't drive.
Nezha: Not even an opinion on the color?
SWK: ... You know me too well.
Nezha: You say that like it's a bad thing! Now, color preferences?
SWK: As long as it's not some bland neutral color, I'm satisfied. Seriously, what's with companies turning all of the buildings and vehicles various shades of gray?! Ew!
SWK: It's like the world got sucked dry of all signs of life. Disgusting.
Muzha: *awkwardly looks around the black-and-gray walls*
SWK: *turns to Muzha* Before you say anything, Erlang and co have a reason their house looks the way it does.
Muzha: Yeah, I always felt a bit weird to go from neutral colors and then see Nezha's room and it's just...
Muzha, Nezha, & SWK: Pink!
Nezha: I like keeping with the lotus theme.
SWK: His favorite color is blue!
Muzha: Blue? Not orange?
SWK: Why would it be orange?
Nezha: Mushroom, you're orange!
SWK: Oh, yeah! *giggles*
Nezha: You do look very good in blue, which is why I like it so much. It really brings out your eyes and fur.
SWK: Awww! *blushes*
Nezha: It does!
~~~
Erlang leaned on the doorframe and watched Muzha look around the room.
Muzha: You really want this room to be mine? I can fill it with my own stuff?
Erlang: *nods* This can be your room, just as Nezha has his and Jinzha and Jinka will have theirs eventually. You can do as see fit with the space.
Muzha: This room has a full bed, and I can keep it?
Erlang: Absolutely. If you need sheets the proper size or comforters, I can get you those, no problem at all.
Muzha: Really?
Erlang: Yes. And a desk, nightstand or any other furniture you'd like in here. Whatever you'd like, I will provide.
Muzha: ... Thank you.
~~~
Muzha fluffed up the pillows and set them just right on the bed. Muzha had only ever had twin sized beds in his father's house, and while he had a queen size in his own house, a full size still felt like a huge upgrade from what he grew up with.
Nezha and Jinzha had been given queen and full sized beds in their father's house respectively. Father argued that the two "moved in their sleep more" so they got bigger beds.
Nezha would always wind up halfway across the room anyway, so what was even the point? And Muzha fell out of bed a few times too! Jinzha hardly moved an inch in his sleep, so that made no sense for him.
Typical for Father to make nonsense explanations for his blatant favoritism.
But Erlang made it as equal as possible while still taking into consideration the brothers' actual needs.
Nezha was the only one with a bigger bed because he was a married man now. Plus, he had lived there the longest, so naturally his room was far more complete than the other two.
Jinzha never asked for it, but his room came with a bassinet and a rocking chair. Little else was in there as of now, but there was a promise of more to come when Jinzha wished it so.
Muzha was promised a desk of his choice with whatever desktop accessories he wished. Perfect just for him. Erlang truly was making an effort with him.
It felt nice.
~~~
Erlang came in to tuck Muzha in and bid him goodnight. Final conversations were had and some estimates of when promises would be fulfilled.
"Of all the times he had to tell us to go ask another parent, it had to be when our car has been flipped over!"
"Luckily we weren't in it, though."
SWK: It's always something!
Nezha: *dialing Zhang* Yeah, feels like it. At least I managed to establish the bus system before this.
~~~
Zhang: *burping Jinka* *baby talking him* You look like you had some good formula, Bear! You're already such a chunky boy! You're so cute! The cutest ever!
Nezha: Yeah, no one was in it. We're okay, Bapa. I might need a ride to work for a few days until I can get a new car, though.
Kang: Do you need a ride home right now?
Nezha: Yeah, if you don't mind. We're just at the Water District Main Library.
Kang: Okay, I'll come get you. I'm at Jinzha's so I might take a minute to get over there.
Nezha: How's Jinzha doing?
Kang: He's doing a good job of taking care of Jinka, but not so much of himself. Papa, Appa, and I are giving him a break so he can take time for self-care.
Nezha: Oh, I don't want to take you away from him if he needs you!
Kang: Nah, I'm just being a warm body in the room at this point. Papa's the best at this sort of thing and Appa has been the one keeping Jinzha from sprinting back to Jinka the second he gets fussy.
Kang: Jinzha's sleeping right now and Jinka probably will be soon, too. I'll come get you.
~~~
*car ride home*
SWK: Do you think anything is wrong with Jinzha?
Kang: No, we're keeping a very close eye on him. He's just protective of Jinka. Jinzha's still getting into the swing of taking care of a baby and himself at the same time. Even experienced parents can struggle with that as I'm sure you know.
SWK: Yeah, I know.
Kang: He's doing great. He just needs a bit of assistance, like all parents do. That's why grandparents and babysitters exist.
SWK: Wait, you can get a babysitter just so you can take a break?
Nezha: *has babysat Wukong's kids in the past* What did you think babysitters were for?
SWK: So parents can go on date nights or to the bar to work or to make more kids. Stuff like that!
Nezha: Well, yeah, but it's also for when you need a break. What you do with that break is entirely up to you. You can use it for self-care if you'd like.
SWK: Why didn't anyone tell me that sooner?!
Nezha: Not sure.
Muzha liked being held by Erlang. Held in general, he supposed. He didn't have much experience with it.
They sat together on the couch, watching a movie Muzha picked out. Erlang put a blanket around Muzha then slung his arms around him. It was cozy.
Muzha couldn't remember the last time he'd felt so... comforted. Maybe Erlang was truly never going to forget about him.
Just maybe.
~~~
Jinzha undressed himself to shower. He didn't want to admit it, but he did smell. He couldn't remember the last time he did shower.
Jinzha caught sight of himself in the mirror. Dark circles and bags under the eyes, a minor amount of hair loss from the hormone shift. Stretch marks at the midsection.
Jinzha smiled. He loves his stretch marks. A beautiful reminder of the son he bore.
...
Oh Buddha, was that really his smell? Gods!
No wonder Zha- no, Papa, insisted he take a day off to take care of himself.
They don't even have context for their car being flipped over. They went in the library with a perfectly parked car and came out to a car flipped on its hood halfway through the parking lot.
