The Yellow Roses

“Believe me, I won’t!” She laughed and followed her roommate. “I was thinking maybe something gold…It always suits me. Oh! You should wear something red. You look like a god damn vixen when you wear red!” Autumn nodded, flopping on the bed. She cuddled up into all the pillows and watched Marissa.

In the bedroom, Marissa pulled open her closet door and pulled out turquoise dress that dipped in the front to accentuate the cleavage of whoever wore it, “You do look good in gold, but if I’m going to stand out in red, you need to stand out in a bright color too. Gold just kinda blends into you…” She tossed the dress to her, “Wear that.” And then Marissa proceeded to strip out out of her t-shirt to find a red blouse.

“Marissa...I will have tits flying everywhere.” She raised her eyebrow, letting out a small laugh. Autumn crawled off the bed and unzipped her sundress. She slipped out of it quickly and pulled on the bright dress. “How do I look?” She grinned, striking a pose.

“Maybe I could get into needle point or a garden? I don’t even know.” She closed her eyes and laughed. “I sound like an old woman!” Autumn groaned. She looked back up at her friend and smiled. “Really? Are you sure you’d want to take your grandma to a party?” She bit her lip and softly smiled.

“Yes, yes you do. And you’re younger than I am.” Marissa said with a small laugh, shaking her head, “Of course I’d take you. Just don’t…mention needle point or gardening.” She warned before motioning for Autumn to follow her down the hall and towards her bedroom, “C’mon. Let’s find you something to wear.”

“Bored as hell.” She softly giggled. “I couldn’t help it! I already cleaned every closet, did the dishes, and painted my toes.” Autumn covered her face and sighed. “I need a job.”

Marissa laughed again, moving over to her friend cupping the blonde’s face in her hands, “Or maybe a hobby. Because bored you is going to end up rearranging my entire apartment.” She let her hands fall to her side, “Maybe you should come with me tonight. A friend in my theatre course is having a party at her dorm–a good college party might curb your boredom.”

“Maybe I could get into needle point or a garden? I don’t even know.” She closed her eyes and laughed. “I sound like an old woman!” Autumn groaned. She looked back up at her friend and smiled. “Really? Are you sure you’d want to take your grandma to a party?” She bit her lip and softly smiled.

“Well… I was only trying to help, but now that I look at this, I didn’t really make much of a difference.”

“Well the couch is on the opposite wall…which is kind of a big difference.” Marissa breathed out a small sigh, moving further into the space, “How bored were you to do this?” She said, failing to hold back a small laugh.

“Bored as hell.” She softly giggled. “I couldn’t help it! I already cleaned every closet, did the dishes, and painted my toes.” Autumn covered her face and sighed. “I need a job.”

“Quit bitching.” She snapped. Usually, Autumn kept her cool, but today was different. “Just help me.” An exhausted whisper spilled from her lips. She quietly put away the cans in the pantry and sighed, moving to put all the coffee away.

“I’m still…very confused as to why you thought I’d be okay with you rearranging my living room.”

“Well... I was only trying to help, but now that I look at this, I didn’t really make much of a difference.”

Everyone had a soul mate. It was something that was well known as he sighed and rubbed his forehead. His words were strange. He didn’t understand them and he hated having the words on his skin. Please save me. What did that even mean? What type of soul mate did he have that those were their first words to him? Bumping into someone he steadied himself and them before he looked at them curiously. “Are you alright?” He asked gently looking at the other. 

The girl blinked and slowly nodded. “Um, yes. I suppose...” She weakly laughed and pursed her lips. “Just a long day.” Autumn looked up at the man then shyly looked back down. “I-I really am sorry. I just wasn’t paying attention. My mind is everywhere today.” She shook her head, flashing a gentle smile.

“Well… That sounds reasonable! We’ve got to eat better. Our trashcan and pantry looks like a shelter for Cheetos and ramen.”

“I was being sarcastic. Besides ramen can be healthy.”

“No reason to be sarcastic..,Ours, however, is not. It’s the package kind that has the chicken dust. I’m just trying to help.”

“Cause liquefying your food with get rid of the fats…”
