Itâs a great time to be a consumer. With so many buying options, retailers have to work harder than ever to give people good value and even better service.
Carl asks, What metrics are most important to my mobile app business? Great question, Carl â this is both an easy and difficult question to answer. There isn't a one-size-...
I've seen some great examples of product page design in retail apps, and some equally dire ones! It's easy to tell which have been designed and optimised, specifically with the mobile app user in mind, compared to those that have been developed with a "one size fits all" mindset, as far as taking a desktop site's product page and scaling it down into a mobile app. Native design patterns play an important role in all aspects of app design, but in product page design, they can greatly help improve conversion when used effectively. This article aims to provide first-hand insight, hints and tips, regarding a range of techniques that can help drive both better mobile UX, and in turn, add to bag conversion rates, specifically for retail apps.
User interviews often form one of the largest parts of any user research. We look at how to conduct them effectively and what to look out for.

Itâs really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people donât know what they want until you show it to them. -Steve Jobs

Never Ask What They Wantâââ3 Better Questions to Ask in User Interviews

Day 1. Improving the Citi Bike user experience.
On the very first day of our class we dove into the exciting world of UX by trying to improve the Citi Bike experience using the methods of observation and interview.Â
We made a site visit to a Citi Bike dock. Because most of us had never used Citi Bike before, we tested it out ourselves so we would know what potential issues there might be before engaging with real users. Based on our research we came up with two types of Persona.
For Neil Newbie:
1) The first pain point we discovered was a requirement to insert credit card to start the process. People wonât risk inserting their credit card in unfamiliar device. The risk of losing money will be too great. Basing on best ux practices we recommend to move a payment to the end of the experience.
2) The second pain point was the buttons for entering the code to rent a bike which are not obvious enough as they look exactly like indicators.Â
Recommendation:
To change the round form of the buttons into a square one.
For Roger Resident:Â
3) Â It wasnât clear which slot to put your key in.
Recommendation:Â
To put an icon near the slot indicating the key or mark it with blue ( the color of the key)
4) No definition for a red signal (bike isnât available - reserved or broken). The green light is explained though.Â
Recommendation:
To move red/yellow/green light to top of dock so it will be visible at a glance.
