I just finished a really interesting ATLA fic so OF COURSE this poem screamed ZUKO to me
I’ve been reading this amazing book by Deborah A. Miranda. It’s generally about the history of California Indians from when they were missionized by Spain to current day- and the inter generational violence they still suffer that stems from what colonizers did to them.
One of my favorite things about ATLA is the various ways they depict intergenerational violence- from a familial to world wide scale- not an easy thing to depict so effectively in children’s media, so it’s unsurprising one of Deborah’s poems would make me think of it.
Anyway I highly recommend this book (Bad Indians by Deborah A. Miranda) it’s taken me a few months to get through because it’s HEAVY but it’s wonderfully written and part of the history of America they really gloss over in our schools.

finished my 2nd book of the year and entered it into my reading journal 😌
Miscommunication in a TV couple (and irl too I suppose) often leads to bad stuff and drama but then there’s Chuck Vs the Honeymooners… and suddenly it’s just plain hilarious :’)
"Chuck vs. the Honeymooners" is a great episode but I didn't expect to recognize an actor from my childhood!
We’re perfect for each other, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
Every time I watch Chuck 3x1 I am reminded that the whole damn point of this show is that they actually want the same damn things, just in a different order than the other person. They’re both willing to give up so much (and different things!) to create the life they want, and tHE BEAUTy of this show is that things finally click when they start living in a both-and place (ie: my favorite episode of all time Chuck vs the Honeymooners with the best fight ever) and aaall of season 3, is about them finding their way towards that. In their own circuitous routes — lol yes Brandon Routh included. and they both make mistakes, and it’s okay and beautiful and wonderful!! Because we as the watchers know that Chuck and Sarah are best when they are a) together and b) being spies.
S3 is all about them answering the following Qs:
1) What if we don’t have to give up being spies?
2) What if we don’t have to give up being together?
3) What if our superpower, the best thing about us, is that we are both in love and stellar spies? What if our bond and feelings make us stronger? What if there is no other work that we are better suited for? What if this is — dare I say— a calling — a way for us to exist in an between place that no one else has before because we are making something new ✨
