Being an immortal fallen angel, Maeve rarely thought about her birthday. Her physical age was something that basically a lie when it reality, she was thousands of years old. But that was not what the people in her life knew. To her friends, it was Maeve’s 22nd birthday and that meant celebration. The other nurses at the hospital at already presented her with a cake and a small party and some of her college friends had plans to take her out dancing after she had dinner with her parents. When she focused so much on the people around her and rarely thought about herself, Maeve should be allowed to have one day be all about her. But it was hard to find happiness, even on her birthday. The 400 ball and the events that had happened that terrible month had happened a month ago and Maeve was still finding it difficult to get over what happened. That was why she really needed a night out to focus on herself for once. She was in her apartment, getting ready to go out when there was a knock at her door. “Coming!” she called out as she fastened in an earring and threw on her other heel.Â
Maeve's birthday was still a cause for celebration, despite any reservations she or Aubrey herself had on the matter. Vampyres weren't prone to celebrating birthdays as humans did — there were far too many years to keep count of — but any opportunity for cheer was one that she would have to take to save face. There was nothing Aubrey loved more than holidays, and birthdays were no exception. Maeve, who was trying her best to guide her through the post-ball chaos, deserved the celebration. She knocked on the girl's door in a sing-songy sort of beat, her other fist firmly clasped around the handles of the gift bag she was delivering. "It's Aubrey! No rush."
