a phenomenon i keep encountering over n over is that sometimes people are lovely and imaginative and talented artists but their writing is awfully meanspirited, insincere and weirdly ashamed of itself. and it just kind of bleeds into the rest of their work. and whenever i see it it almost makes me sad? it rly goes to show that “the worst thing you can do as an artist is hate yourself” applies to every flavour & facet of the art in question. you can have all the technical skill in the world but cynical self-flagellating will kill your audience and make you miserable. if you’re constantly winking and nudging the audience from behind the curtain and being like “boy, haha, isn’t all this lore i made weird and stupid? aren’t my ideas dumb and worthless? aren’t these ocs so dull and shallow and cruel?” then it absolutely will not save you.
