--------Taiwanese artist, Han Yun Liang. Since 2017, she has been practicing ceramics in the studio of Teppei Ono, a ceramic artist, located in a deep valley settlement in Kōchi prefecture. As she is someone who is devoted to her creations while living far away from home, I was interested in hearing her thoughts during this pandemic. On the day of the interview, an unseasonable typhoon was approaching.

台湾出身のアーティスト、ハン・ユン・リャン。彼女は、2017年から高知県の深い山間の集落にある、陶芸家の小野哲平氏のアトリエで作陶の修行をしている。自分の故郷から遠く離れた場所で、暮らしそして制作に打ち込む彼女が、このコロナ禍でどんな事を想っていたのか、話を聞いてみたくなった。

このコロナ禍で彼らがどのように制作をし、暮らしていたのか、話を聞いてきました。

COVID-19. How did we conduct ourselves in response to the coronavirus, an invisible otherness, that abruptly appeared before our eyes? In listening to the words of various artists, I’ve witnessed moments where the essence of their lives’ joy come to surface. How are the two from moogabooga, who make a living by breathing life into objects in their animation, currently living and creating? I became very intrigued by this idea, and decided to visit them in Tokyo, their new base that they moved to from Kyoto in the midst of this pandemic.

moogabooga : An animation duo consisting of Makoto Takano and Ayako Takano. Creating animation under the theme ‘imagination in everyday life,’ the duo specializes in crafts-like and lo-fi production methods that originate from manual procedures. From directing to doll making, animation filming, and editing, the duo covers wide ranging creative activities related to animation.

At the beginning of April, around the time the state of emergency was announced, I had asked FUJI|||||||||||TA if I could interview him. I expected the interview to be online via Zoom as the circumstances prevented me from interviewing him in person during that time. However, as mentioned by him in this interview, the interview was never actualized as it was right after his performance for dommune, and he was completely worn out. It has been about half a year since then, and the public finally seems to be slightly less strained. This time I was fortunate enough to visit FUJI|||||||||||TA and his partner Megumi Ishiwata, an artist, in Otsuki, Yamanshi, where they live together, and interview them. I have visited their place several times, and thinking about going there again brought me a sense of comfort.

Miraiken’s new interview series, ‘I’m here…‘ started during the unexpected coronavirus pandemic. Since April, we have interviewed five musicians online. The very hot summer has passed, and now, the days spent at home due to the state of emergency can feel like a dream. I felt a strong urge to visit artists and directly hear them talk. Artist, Motoshi Tsuda. At his studio in Kobe, I asked him what he had been thinking about, and what he had been painting.
