Prometheus bringer of fire, more like Prometheus bringer of SASS

Just finished reading Aeschylus’ Prometheus and boy oh boy if that guy ain’t got that sass in him

Last ten pages were just him and Hermes dissing each other, so obv I had to draw smth

Oceanus, who just thinks his nephew is being a tad too not nice to the guy who is RULING THE WORLD (he looks like a plumber bc in a play I watched he was imagined as a plumber moving through sewage tubes and I loved it soo much)

And then there’s Kratos (actually the personification of power, but I can’t help myself and I just think of Gow Kratos), Hephaestus who feels bad about NAILING Prometheus to a rock and Prometheus who use saw the thing that is about to go through his poor chest

Sooo sketches are from before Christmas but I just built up the energy to make another “long” post here on tumblr so HERE WE GO I HOPE YOU ENJOY

So I was going through my second hollow knight playthrough and the Cast-off Shell Area made me think about how could it have been for the Pale King to be…reborn if I can say so

In pic above I decided to explore his Wyrm shape, his original, higher-being shape (I know he should have way less limbs -hence, Wyrm- but I liked the idea of him having way too many hands too much to leave it out)

For starters, he was big. Big and well-ordered. This is still some kind of mortal-ish shape, but the big difference in Wyrm VS Pale King is that Wyrm shape is what could be described as “perfect”: tidy, clean, calm and collected, all-knowing and all-doing. Everything down to his hairstyle is perfectly ordered, not a fold or hair out of place.

This is hat differentiates him from the Pale King: the Pale King gives all of himself to try and achieve that perfection he used to have, that higher-being aura which always surrounded him, forgetting he is now not much more than a mortal being, a bug like others. His calm became paranoia and his perfect crown hairstyle became let down, pin-straight hair

Here’s a face comparison between Wyrm and Pale King (in his most mortal form)

The Wyrm has big empty eyes and no mouth: I designed him without one because I figured he had a mind voice strong enough to be heard by basically anyone and to penetrate any mind, so he doesn’t really need a mouth (don’t ask me how does he eat-I guess he just absorbs nutrients from somewhere)

The Pale King, instead, in his most mortal (and truer) form looks sickly, with deeply settled eyebags and dark pin eyes. This is already an older Pale King (about when he was already sheltered inside a dream and the infection started taking over Hallownest) but really shows how much he changed and how much vastly mortal he looks in comparison to his true self

It’s almost like the Wyrm and the Pale King became two different people

Lastly, I’d like to call this one “Being born is not fun”

Since you can find his cast off egg, inside his old shell, I figured one day he was just born again

I think being born was a very unpleasant experience for the pale king, from forming inside such a small egg, to transferring his conscience in a new mind, to coming to light in a new, frail and naked body

I imagined how bad it felt to go from ten limbs to two, having wings but not being able to fly and having a mouth and having to speak aloud because your inside voice is not strong enough anymore

The Pale King was miserable.

This has been my latest obsession

In my dnd setting, there's a flock of flying whales migrating from the Feywild to the Northern Cost once every year and me loving whales and loving the concept of whales swimming out of the sea into the sky bc of the Feywild's magic and becoming consequently purple birthed three paintings of them (top one is the latest one)

Party finally got to meet them, after seeing their migration depleted and a whale cemetery right in the heart of the Feywild, and manage to ride a whale cub(?) too

Im curious about how you interpreted Herrah and Pale King's relationship?

Like is it strained(enemies and stuff) or does herrah or pale king maybe have a little love for one another?

I'm curious for my ravage adhd brain xd

And also how was it like after they had made hornet?

Thanks for the ask anyways, have some herrah potraits while I ramble

I always interpreted Herrah/ Pale King relationship as purely…professional (at least from her side). Like, she needed an heir, he needed a dreamer.

Herrah didn’t really ever like the Pale King (she was there before him, nonetheless, and saw his arrival and hoped for the best when he declared himself as king of Hallownest, but was soon let down just when the infection started growing) or his decisions regarding all the vessels question and neither the way he hid inside his palace once the infection took over Hallownest, but she knew his plan was the kingdom and the Weaver’s only hope to try and find salvation.

So she opted for putting her people’s safety before her not liking the guy-who-crowned-himself-monarch at all.

Herrah is a leader, a matriarch: she would have done anything in her power to protect those under her and grant them an happy long life, but this doesn’t mean she wouldn’t ask anything in return. A moment of vulnerability was nothing in the face of possible salvation and the heir she desired so ardently.

And the Pale King needed the help of that faraway, rebellious, ancient village the Weaver’s nest is. Bringing an heir to life meant yield part of his “royalty” and “godhood” to a mortal body, but I guess he was in desperate necessity of a support in his plan and, being the damn curious scientist/architect/engineer he is, he wanted to see what a mortal spawn would look like

As for his view of Herrah, he deemed her as savage and rebellious, natural, and yet incredibly wise and capable leader. He never really precluded himself the possibility of a relationship with her, but she never cared about him and so he never thought too seriously about that.

I do think he still asked himself how would it have been if he had started seeing her more frequently

As for the White Lady, I think she was aware of this weird Herrah/Pale King iteration but she deemed it as a political affair so she never shamed Herrah for that, but somehow resented the Pale King, very very deep inside herself

HORNET’S BIT(I didn’t play silksong yet so if smth is weird is bc of that)(no spoilers pls)

After having her, Herrah and the Pale King just parted ways

She grew her child (at least for a while) and he went back to his palace with a new dreamer assured.

Herrah loved Hornet to death, always finding time to spend time with her little self until the very last minute. Hornet was then grew by the Weaver’s and her situation was some “adopted child” stereotype trope kind of thing: in a teenage fit of rage, probably, she found out her father was the Pale King and departed on a journey to understand more abt herself and this dead kingdom she found herself in. Here she meets the knight and follows his adventures from a distance for a while

The Weavers always told her stories about their matriarch, Herrah, and how she loved them and loved her so much she gave her life to grant them a better life, so Hornet grew really attached to her mother’s figure, but found out of her father only after pressuring her carers into telling her (the Weavers probably promised Herrah to not reveal who Hornet’s father was until Hornet herself would have been ready to receive this information)

So yeah basically Hornet’s story starts with lots and lots of love
