Thirst

Edea had been poised to lash out as she noted the footsteps behind her — six men from the sound of it, light and quick and nearly silent; other thieves, obviously.

Jackal wiped a stray bead of sweat off of his face and cleared his throat once more, trying to get the blasted thirst from his throat. He and his boys walked out towards the oasis with Edea in tow. He tried to keep up light conversation with her, to keep his nerves at bay.

"…Um. It’s nice. And cold," she answered absently, trying to keep an eye on both Jackal and his fellow thieves while also paying attention to their surroundings. The damn desert could easily shift topography after a single sandstorm, and she still wasn’t quite familiar yet…

Jackal's eye's widened a bit but he quickly covered it up by faking a sneeze, "bless you" one of his boys said from the back.

Edea noted his tense body language with alarm, and her instincts told her something was up. Her fingers itched to snatch up her blade, but she waited all the same, keeping her face neutral. She even quirked a brow and set one hand on her hip with a nod, although she was poised to strike at any moment.

Jackal feigned a lighthearted smile and rubbed the back of his hood, ” oh? waiting for? Ahem, oh yes, uhhh, ” he snapped his fingers as he was suddenly struck with inspiration, “we’re just rounding up the boys! You wanted to see what my, eh, division does right?” He wiped a droplet of sweat off of his face before it could be seen. Too much nerves showing and she would probably catch onto something.
