“I find it very hard to think of anything that would make you jump,” he mused, “unless the thought of mutant grasshoppers make you itch because I’m not going to lie…insects aren’t my favorite thing on Remus.”

“the other day sienna spooked me at the coffee maker and i nearly dropped it, which would have been a disaster. and sienna’s about as scary as a bunny,” she reeled. it was the truth, she was as jumpy as ever. one loud noise of sudden movement was enough to make her heart rate spike to a level that would concern anthony, “i love you grasshoppers! they are a vital part of the environment! do you dislike insects in general?” 

“Of course.” he responded, although he had glanced around quickly to be sure she was speaking to him. “You can use my body as a shield if anything.” he joked.

“as your captain I would never put my life before yours,” she said, “but if there’s a noise and i instinctively jump behind you that’s not my fault.”

          there’s  a  sigh,  a  light  sniffle  of  a  sleepless  man  rubbing  at  tired  eyes.  always  a  child  prone  to  an  over-active  imagination  in  his  youth,  seamus  can’t  help  the  shivers  that  run  through  him  most  nights ;  the  result  of  the  open  wound  of  an  empty  seat  in  lab  three.  a  quiet  companion  now  eternally  silent  as  wooden  prayer  beads  burn  the  delicate  skin  of  an  inner  wrist.  a  cold  no  brew  can  ever  chase  away,  though  he  tries.  “ yes,  captain, ”  he  hums,  her  concern  for  his  well  being  quietly  appreciated.  “ but  we  irish  are  known  for  being  historically  stubborn  fools,  so  i  suppose  that’s  that. ”

        she places a gentle hand on his shoulder, “the trials we have been through are weighing on us all. . .still. and it may stay that way for the rest of our lives, but we have to continue acting like human beings. and that means taking care of ourselves, and each other,” she smiles warmly, “and even if you are stubborn by blood, i’m stubborn by rank. so we’ll see which wins out.”

“’Ray of sunshine’ is my middle name!” Sienna joked in reply, and she linked her arm through Anna’s companionably as they strode along. “And while I’m all for an official nap schedule being enforced, how come you can’t sleep at night? Is it the… noise?” she asked, concerned.

“Quite a long name. No wonder they cut it from the posters,” Anna added, graciously accepting the physical contact, “The noises . . .yes. It’s been so long and yet I’m still not used to it. I thought that I gained the  ability to drown out any sound while I was in college, but I guess some things are just impossible to ignore. Are you sleeping well?”

“Sure! You know I’ll never turn down company. Is this a social call or have you got something to tell everyone?”

“Sienna, you are an absolute joy,” she said, the anxiety subsiding somewhat, “Actually, I think I’m going to take a nap. I know the sleep schedule is in place for a reason but I’m considering being defiant and becoming nocturnal. I can’t sleep at night anyway.”

“if you’re looking for someone to beat up shadows that’ll be more you than me.” he shot her a hesitant look that he hoped read pleasant overall. “but company i can do.”

            “ a cartwheel? that’s too easy. have you tried a backflip? ” heath smiles and raised an eyebrow. he misses it, too, though he might’ve given his mother a heart attack or two by doing them. “ i dreamed of doing it on a field of grass but i’m a bit out of practice. i might break my neck. ”

“A blackflip? Outside of zero gravity? I have never tried a real backflip and I don’t think I ever will!” she exclaimed, her pitch high with excitement and amusement,”I’m all for fulfilling dreams but if you break you’re neck I’ll kill you!”
