so bugonia is suspiciously similar to an invader zim fanfic i almost wrote lmaoooo
i am so feral about zim and dib having a found-family type of dynamic. like they finally realize how similar they are and how they have some of the same problems, and zim gradually starts feeling protective. and eventually it even gets to a point where some little things zim does start to remind dib of his mom, whom he only remembers in a distant way.
when i first heard that line when zim is being mobbed by alien enthusiasts and he threatens "i'll lay eggs in your stomach! i mean it" i misheard it as "i need it" like he was implying he was fully in alien labor and was in desperation ready to do a ridley scott on whomever he could grab first lmfao
when dib shouted "you won't get away with it" across the street at zim in the mortos episode and zim shouted back "that's very nice of you" wtf did zim hear dib say lmao
i will always find a way to make it deeper no matter what it is lol: i feel like the fact that zim misheard something nice and responded so pleasantly is just solid proof that they could get along if they actually wanted to, even despite their massive differences like their species and their ages. like they could actually be friends against all odds.

concept: zim and skoodge thinking no one will ever know that they've explored each other's bodies (like multiple times) but the vibes are actually so strong that even seasoned irken soldiers like tak can't not comment on it
zim & skoodge: (not saying a word but the aura between them of having to hold back so hard from rabidly jump each other's bones is making the windows of the spaceship fog up)
tak: can you two shut the fuck up
concept: zim gaining a protective/parental instinct over dib when dib's an adult (still not even a baby to zim; maybe not even a zygote lol) and dib very quickly learns he can use it to (affectionately) manipulate him and does stuff like saying "okay! i'm gonna go in there. by myself. at night. in the snow." to make zim join him in investigating something lmao

if i'm to get more serious, the reason i like this ship so much is i feel like they'd understand each other. as closely as zim could ever understand someone else.
while i already feel zim and dib understand each other on a very significant level and that that's one of the biggest things that stands out to me in this series, (besides the glaring thing that they're from entirely different generations... hugely lol), i don't think zim could ever truly relate to a human (partly because of an ego he won't get over).
buuut. i also don't think zim could ever communicate in words the fact that he relates to someone. regardless of how, it would have to be something totally unspoken.
even with dib, it's just something kind of. lingering in the air between them, even when dib is an adult. and i feel it would start being communicated through unspoken things like body language (i.e. some form of zim showing a protective instinct over dib like a parent, but they'd never talk about it).
with another irken, zim is going to express it somehow, aggressively, angrily. whether it's getting into a fight or. uh.

idk how many billions of years it's been since i last posted on here, but i had such a sad diabetic-flareup-induced iz dream last night.
i've had this headcanon for years that zim actually thought tallest miyuki was his mother when he was a smeet, even though she pitied him and was cruel to him for being clingy and "embarrassingly sentimental for an irken."
but in this dream, she turned out to actually be his biological mother, something she'd kept a secret because irkens had abandoned traditional reproduction and switched to growing irkens in labs in attempts to eliminate familial bonds. (plus, romance being frowned upon and shamed, if that was even a factor in his conception)
miyuki ended up helping zim somewhat with his "mission" on earth, and lied about why, claiming she was commanded to by red and purple. when, really, she felt remorseful and thought the way red and purple treated him (as well as everyone on irk) was deeply unfair.
if both zim and miyuki have feelings of sentimentality; if they feel love or any sense of warmth, they're both considered broken by irken society. yet, they're both so ashamed and afraid of that part of themselves that they can't even communicate it to one another.
skoodge: zim i didn't think this was possible for irkens anymore but... i have a crush on you

why do i feel like zim would love those ridiculous cupcakke remixes even though he does indeed know what the lyrics are about lmfao
If y'all like the concept of "Invader Zim but darker," a movie I strongly recommend is "Under the Skin" from 2013 (It's based on a book, but I haven't read it yet). Some of the aliens even have something similar to PAKs, and then one of them tries to eat human food but finds it repulsive.
It's really eerie and interesting, and one of my favorite things about it is that it's kind of a monster movie but it's in the monster's POV instead of in the POV of the people trying to get away from the monster. Scarlett Johansson plays the main character, but don't let that fool you, it's very out-of-genre for the type of movies she usually works on.
List of content warnings/trigger warnings/content notes for this movie. (i.e. There is a part of the movie with flashing lights, a part that might be considered ableist, a part that might be triggering for people with emetophobia.)
(spoilers)
Also like... what the alien woman goes through reminds me of the ostracization that Zim faces both on Earth and on his own planet. And also of the concept a lot of IZ fans write about where Zim eventually becomes more comfortable around humans.
"Under the Skin" is so eerie and unsettling, but it's also just... so sad. I don't watch a lot of alien-related stuff, to be fair, but this movie and Invader Zim are the only things I've seen where an alien is such an outcast, even among their own species, that they end up in an utterly hopeless situation with nowhere to go, and with no one but people harassing them and making fun of them.
