CARLA: Alright, I won't take up too much of your time today, Dylan. Like I said, I want to talk about Jesse, your sister.
DYLAN: What about her?
CARLA: I just want to get your perspective. What do you think of her? What kind of person is she? That sort of thing.
DYLAN: I adored my sister. When I was little, I mean. Back in Ordinary.
CARLA: And you don't anymore?
DYLAN: When I first got here, sure. I'd always hope she'd come too. To find me. To take me home. We went everywhere together, why should this be any different? Casper said she could come too, to the Bureau, if she wanted to. But she never did.
CARLA: Why do you think that is?
[Dylan, under his breath, unsubtitled: Oh, come on.]
DYLAN: Because she didn't care about me. She always wanted to be out on her own, seeing the world. She always said so. I guess she got what she wanted.
CARLA: Great. So she wanted to see the world. Did she ever mention any place in particular?
DYLAN: Why?
CARLA: We like to ask questions around here, you know that. Any particular cities, towns, landmarks, anything like that?
[Dylan scoffs]
DYLAN: I don't remember.
CARLA: What about family friends? Were you close with anyone living outside of Ordinary?
[Dylan stands up]
DYLAN: I'm done with this. Tell Casper I want pizza for lunch today.

The most basic, intractable fact about mental illnesses is that you simply cannot willpower your way out of them. The only exceptions to this rule are the ones I have, which continue to disable me due to lack of determination and other grave personal flaws

If we're talking about the plethora of very direct Dylan/Alan parallels, we also need to talk about the plethora of very direct Saga/Jesse parallels.
Saga and Jesse were both gaslit about their abilities by authorities in their lives—Saga by her mother (who meant well!), and Jesse by her psychiatrist (who maybe did not mean well). They both presumably grew up pretty lonely; neither of them have friends they mention outside of family. Saga and Jesse are deeply motivated by love, yes, but ALSO by mystery and—more importantly—the draw of the fantastic. These forces are constantly conflicting with each other. Jesse finds herself in the Oldest House and is immediately enraptured with it, despite the fact that her brother is being held captive in its walls. Likewise, Saga is instantly drawn into the mystery of the Cult, despite the blaring red flags telling her to turn back. (Now, this isn't to say they did anything wrong, because I don't think they did; Saga and Jesse are both being led by forces they can't possibly plan for!) Jesse's vision of going back to janitorial work and sliding back into complacency, the hints throughout Saga's story that she led a very lowkey life prior to joining the FBI in 2019, YEARS after her daughter was born. The card from her mother encouraging her to pursue her dreams, her fears being related to poverty and the loss of her dream job and family. They both have PONYTAILS and a GREAT sense of fashion. They love to make jokes and puns. So, all that said;
hey guysss so unfortunately the rumors are true and im leaving the narrative. Buttt the good news is my absence will create such a gaping hole in your lives that it will become a sort of presence itself, and so in a way it will kind of be like i never left! But i am. Leaving just to be clear.
