ppl without meds: wow…. i can't imagine being dependent on medicine... pills every day? injecting myself every week? how tragic
ppl who need meds: holy fuck they invented the solution to my problem and i literally just need to take magic tiny rocks and inject some substance every week. oh my god. i get to feel better in literally any capacity. holy shit
ppl who need meds but can't access them/meds for their thing don't exist yet: holy fuck I wish I had tiny magic rocks or injectable substance or cream or gel or potion or implant to take at whatever rate necessary to fix my problem. I'd kill to take that every day/week/etc forever if it would fix my thing
As a bit of levity, upon seeing the work in progress drawing of Agent Alex, Fran - @crazygnomenclature had this to say,

Thank you, sometimes we need a bit of fun when discussing things that are extraordinarily not fun.

Sure, I’m technically allowed to work for the federal government… unless I was one of the trans people purged from the military… which was later ruled unconstitutional, so I suppose I could get that job… for now… but the damage to our transgender military personnel was already done; that ruling was far too late.
Beware the person who downplays what’s happening, and let’s go further, challenge them. Yes, trans people are legally allowed to work government jobs, but when doing so requires them to be stripped of their life saving healthcare, are they really?
The messaging is clear: if you want to be part of the future that republicans are building, you must either strip yourself of your identity, or die.
Broken record as I am on this topic, it bears repeating:
Neutrality assists the oppressor. If you’re part of a discussion where someone spouts this garbage and you don’t push back, you’ve given tacit approval to what they said. If you remain friends with that person, you’re making the statement that bigotry is not a dealbreaker for you.
What kind of person do you want to be? If transphobia, homophobia, racism, bigotry, etc. aren’t dealbreakers for you, are you that person?
History will remember.

An MIT-led study confirms the Antarctic ozone layer is healing as a direct result of global efforts to reduce ozone-depleting substances.
From the article:
A new MIT-led study confirms that the Antarctic ozone layer is healing, as a direct result of global efforts to reduce ozone-depleting substances. Scientists including the MIT team have observed signs of ozone recovery in the past. But the new study is the first to show, with high statistical confidence, that this recovery is due primarily to the reduction of ozone-depleting substances, versus other influences such as natural weather variability or increased greenhouse gas emissions to the stratosphere. “There’s been a lot of qualitative evidence showing that the Antarctic ozone hole is getting better. This is really the first study that has quantified confidence in the recovery of the ozone hole,” says study author Susan Solomon, the Lee and Geraldine Martin Professor of Environmental Studies and Chemistry. “The conclusion is, with 95 percent confidence, it is recovering. Which is awesome. And it shows we can actually solve environmental problems.”
My favorite quote from the article:
“By something like 2035, we might see a year when there’s no ozone hole depletion at all in the Antarctic. And that will be very exciting for me,” she says. “And some of you will see the ozone hole go away completely in your lifetimes. And people did that.”
Wake up babe, new octopus just dropped

not to be a history fucker on main but the whole mystery of the lost colony of roanoke is so fucking funny
governor of the colony: hey I’m gonna go back to england to get more supplies
115 colonists: okay
governor: ends up spending 3 years in england bc of a naval war with spain or some shit
governor: gets back to the colony to find everyone gone
governer: sees the word “croatoan”, the name of a native american tribe, carved into a post
croatoan tribe: has members and children with blonde hair/blue eyes, pale skin
everyone: what could have happened to the colonists of roanoke
hi! op here. I’m fucking hyperventilating

They're squeans I'm pretty sure! If they pop like that anyway. But the term for this kind of "symbol to refer to the general vibe of something in art" is called "Emanata" because it emanates from a person or object.
what the fuck. comics are magic

the way that being chronically ill just drains your money in ways that feel almost ridiculous in how insulting they are is truly one of the worst experiences.
going to the doctor? at least a copay that could be reduced by insurance but never fully gone if not an entire multi-hundred dollar bill for them to say eh idk and maybe run tests that also cost money. oh, and you’ll probably pay double for a specialist that you wait months for a five minute appointment
get prescription medications to manage symptoms from said doctor? again, might get reduced by insurance but could be in the thousands per month. but hey! they want me to hold on to hope of meeting my deductible
can’t get prescriptions? that’s money spent on OTC pain meds and allergy meds and GI meds and supplements and mobility aids and so on
need a special diet? gonna cost you an arm and a leg to keep it up because the generic brands aren’t going to stock them/won’t have them without other ingredients that trigger symptoms
and you know actually? groceries in general costs doubled from when i moved out last year so a weeks worth of food has been upwards of $200 even with generic brands and cutting corners
too symptomatic to cook and no one to help?delivery costs add up rapidly and you’ll be judged by everyone for not eating healthy and feeding the corporate system
add on the rent, utilities, car bills, student costs if you’re in school, time spent at work and school that makes you feel worse, and maybe getting a small treat once and a while because you fucking deserve one coffee once in a while and you’re fucked!
and then getting official government disability benefits takes forever and probably needs to be challenged by a lawyer if initially denied (court costs) and even then it barely covers everything and you can’t save any money without getting the benefits taken away!
imagine me adding a witty ending to this post but honestly i’m just frustrated and in pain
Photos of Trans Women Depicted as Saints and Religious Icons [x]
October 25, 2017
With Virgenes de la Puerta (“Virgins of the Door” in Spanish), Juan Jose Barboza-Gubo looks to honor the lives of Lima’s transgender community. The photographic series, created in collaboration with Mroczek, reimagines trans women from his birthplace—including activists from the Peruvian trans rights organization Feminas—as saints, cultural icons, and religious figures from 19th century portraiture.
[…]
“Virgenes de la Puerta is showing as part of Canon at the Museum of Sex in New York until January 15, 2018. Part of Canon is also on display at the Lugar de la Memoria (LUM) museum in Peru, which is providing support for Peru’s first art memorial to remember LGBTQ victims of hate crime.
i will personally never understand that thing people do when theyre like "i thought this was a good piece of art until i realised its fetish/pornographic" like why does art lose value if the artist was a little horny when they made it. why is that so scary. im sure a lot of the old masters were doing portraits of their lovers slightly bricked up & theyre still displayed in museums. why is sexual arousal not an acceptable source of inspiration when like every other emotion is. well i mean i know why sadly but i do not like it so i'll continue to complain about it

Acrylic on Canvas
It's largely airbrushed! That's why it doesn't look like you expect acrylic to look, if you're expecting it to have been applied with a traditional brush
I love how art programs have spent decades building tools to ape traditional materials and techniques digitally, while at the same time artists have gone ahead and aped the digital funk of MSpaint and bad photoshop in traditional mediums. That's just really fun to me!
