James/Mira is never happening in canon (no matter how much James would like it to happen), but they’re still fun to think about from time to time :D (oh boy, finally a drawing of Mira with her seagull wings!~)
19. Introduce an OC that means a lot to you (and explain why)
i’ve been drawing Karvolf for years, way before i made it into an actual character. It’s just ridiculously fun to draw for me. As for the general concept behind karvolves in general, i always kinda regretted that i could never figure out something interesting to do with it, because despite how all of my old book ideas were terrible, i still like the karvolves a lot. i guess my love for them kinda stems from my love of flawed, “loser” characters, in a way, as karvolves are literally born from mistakes and failures?
i tend to like “weak” characters who somehow manage to accomplish great things far more than superpowered heroes, and it definitely shows in Karvolf and James, which are the two OCs who stayed with me the most over the years, and in the stories i was planning for them years ago, back when i still wrote.
20. Do any of your OCs sing? If they sing, care to share more details (headcanon voice, what kind of songs they like etc)?
i actually have a bunch of characters who like to sing (James sings a lot.), but i like the idea of Cvetko humming whenever he’s alone and in a good mood. :D He mostly sings drinking songs, although there’s also a particular song about Steven (Steven is a local hero, so he gets a few songs about him!) that gets stuck in his head all the time.
As for the voice; i’m not entirely sure? i jokingly suggested Dan Avidan for a potential Cvetko fancast some time ago, so hey, i guess it could work for his voice too!

Just wanted to draw James wrapped in a blanket after watching this, eh. :D Whenever he gets sick. Mira usually tries to visit once he starts feeling good enough to not be dangerous around people.
#considering that the only reason Karvolf is even alive is that it managed to escape whatever place it came from#before the person who created it got the chance to kill it#it's probably a good thing karvolves don't start out as babies

Some more OC stuff! Writing James being sad and kinda angsty is weird. i mean, it happens, but he really tries to be upbeat and cheerful most of the time, and he’s the kind of guy who often pretends everything’s fine even when it isn’t.
But i guess he’d be okay with being sad in front of Mira, from time to time.
@spaceviking YOU ASKED FOR SOME RANDOM ANGST. HERE’S SOME RANDOM ANGST.
"...ever miss it?"
Mira opened her eyes, a little confused, and looked at the TV. The movie (which hadn't been very good anyway) was over and the credits were rolling. Turning her head, she looked at James who was sitting right next to her, absent-mindedly twirling an unlit cigarette between his fingers. He looked distracted and tired, and Mira couldn't help but wonder when he had eaten anything for the last time, and whether or not he was hungry right now.
"Sorry, I hadn't noticed you were asleep." He looked at her and smiled.
"It's okay, I'll need to head home soon anyway. It's almost dawn, you should get some rest too." She yawned and stretched her arms. "You were asking me something?"
He looked away, still twirling the cigarette between his fingers, then frowning when he dropped it and it fell to the floor. Hesitating, he scratched the side of his face and ran a hand through his hair, the tip of a fang showing from between his lips. It struck Mira as odd, seeing him so bothered by something, when usually James made it a point to act like he didn't have a care in the world. She thought he looked sad, and old, and worn out.
"I was asking if you ever missed it," he muttered without looking at her. "Being human, I mean."
The question hit her like a slap to the face, and she averted her eyes. Part of her wanted to lie, because she couldn't help but guess that he wanted her to say yes. Maybe he wanted to hear about the life she used to have, the friends she used to spend time with, the things she used to do. But Mira hated lying, and lying to James wouldn't have been fair. He was, as far as she knew, always honest with her whenever she asked him questions.
"Not really," she whispered. "I don't remember much about it, just a few glimpses. Makes it kinda hard for me to miss it, y'know."
She looked at him again and he avoided her gaze, as though her answer was embarrassing for him, and not for her. Clearing his throat and taking his lighter out of his pocket, James lit it a few times, staring at the small orange flame as though it was the most interesting thing in the world. He replied, his voice still unsure:
"I probably shouldn't have asked. I didn't mean to-"
"It's fine. You surprised me, that's all." She forced a smile, leaned a little closer to him and hit him lightly on the shoulder. "Look at you, getting all introspective all of a sudden."
He smiled back; a weak smile, but it was better than nothing. "It's that dumb movie. It just brought back some old memories, I guess. I used to think one day I would travel and see the whole world, just like these guys did."
He shrugged.
"Or at least see the pyramids. I always wanted to see the pyramids." He laughed and shook his head. "Oh well. Can't change the past, so who cares. It's getting late, you should really go home."
Mira stayed silent for a while, wanting to make him feel better but not knowing what to say. She pushed a strand of hair away from her eyes and stared at her hands.
"And you?" she asked in a quiet voice. "You miss it?"
He didn't look at her, keeping his head turned away, and answered with a small nod.
"Yeah, sometimes," he whispered. "I miss it a lot."

@spaceviking Here it is! James being sick and generally feeling like garbage~ At first i was going to have Mira show up as well, but i ended up going for something shorter instead? Might write down the small scene i had in mind eventually, if i can think of a way to make something interesting with it...
Meanwhile, here’s this :D
Whoever said all vampires were immune to disease and sickness was an idiot. As James lay in bed, shivering and coughing and feeling like his head might explode at any moment, all he could think of was that all of this was unfair and that he didn't deserve any of it.
Of course, in the end it all came down to blood. Most vampires were immune to disease and sickness, because most vampires were permanently high on human blood. It made them fast, and strong, and powerful, and everything the stories people told about vampires described, and even more. It was addictive and made you feel like you were capable of anything, like the whole world in front of you was at your feet. And to be fair, it was.
But James didn't care for human blood, so instead of being fast and strong and having the whole world at his feet, all he had was a couple of dead rats in a bucket and a cold that wouldn't go away. And he was hungry.
Sometimes the world really had the shittiest ways of repaying you for even trying to be a good person.
Reaching for the bucket, James looked inside and grimaced. Nothing left to eat in there, and he still wasn't feeling good enough to go outside. This was soon going to be a problem. His stomach growled and James tried to ignore it, rolling to the other side of the bed before pulling the heavy blankets over his head.
Just as he was finally ready to fall asleep again, the ticking noise of small claws of the floor woke him up. It got closer and closer and stopped right in front of the bed, then was followed by a soft thud as something fell on the floor.
Pushing the blankets away, James opened his eyes and came face to face with Karvolf, who was staring at him. Holding out his hand, James gave it a small pat on the nose, his fingers scratching the short, soft fur, and forced himself to smile.
"Hey, I thought I told you not to come here. I'm hungry and I'm really not feeling good, you shouldn't stay near me."
Karvolf pushed its muzzle against his hand, a low growl coming from its throat.
"You should go and stay with Mira for a few days, I'm sure she wouldn't mind." James sighed and coughed. "I hope she won't be too angry at me for not answering her calls. You know how she is, she'd worry if she knew I was sick..."
Looking down, James saw what had made the thud-ing noise he had noticed earlier: on the floor, between Karvolf's front paws, were two dead mice and a rat. James couldn't help it; he laughed.
"I don't think this'll be enough for you to be able to stay safe here for very long, but thanks," he said, scratching Karvolf behind the ears. "This will really help."
As Karvolf seemed to lose interest and walked out of the bedroom, James reached for the dead rat on the floor and picked it by the tail. Dead animal blood was far from ideal, but it was better than nothing. He bit the rodent's neck and drank, slowly at first then faster as the hunger took over his mind and he forgot everything else. He bit again and again, his fingers clutching at the soft fur, until there was nothing left but an empty husk, which he let fall into the bucket. James grimaced and spat, a few rat hairs still in his mouth, then coughed, sniffed, and lay his head on the pillows again.
His stomach growled, but he decided to keep the two mice for later. He was going to need them. As he pulled the blankets closer again James thought about Karvolf, and for a second he felt a burning rush of energy surge through him, a wave of hunger that made him want to run and hunt and kill, because even a karvolf's blood would have been better than some dead rat. For a second he was baffled at how easy it would've been, and he wanted to give in to that hunger more than anything else in the world.
James shivered and clung to one of his pillows. He coughed again and closed his eyes, telling himself that he wasn't that hungry over and over, until he finally fell asleep. In the apartment's living room, Karvolf hid behind the desk, listening. When it was finally sure that James was asleep, it sneaked outside through an open window and began to hunt.
