girls talk boys // 5 seconds of summer
Allegiant, Veronica Roth
asksavannahchildā:
Ā āWell, then, youāre in total disadvantage here. You wonāt know what hit you. Like your new friend from the animal world?ā, Ayana smirks, raising an eyebrow. Alemayehu had told her about the crow and she couldnāt lose the chance to mention it.
The girl rolls her eyes,Ā āIām not waiting here all dayā.Ā she warns, butĀ itās more of a joke. She didnāt like waiting but she was just as excited about the dateā Oh, luckyĀ me.ā. she jokes, not really surprised.
āI donāt know, somewhere far? Crowded places are suffocating and Iām not in the mood to stay here any longer.ā, she shrugs.Ā
Tai recoils, as if struck in the face by her words.Ā āWhatā¦what do you know about all that?ā Oh, right, he remembers. They have a mutual friend.Ā āDid May say somethinā?Ā āCause if she told you that Iām scared of a little birdie, thatās only partiallyĀ true.ā
āHey, Iāll have you know Iāve got plenty of people lined up to grab a piece of this,ā he adds, gesturing to himself by tugging on his shirt collar.Ā āBut Iām sure you know how that goes.ā He stops beside her and offers her his arm to link hers through.
āThatās a mood. I know just the spot. Now, how do you feel about motorbikes?ā he inquires, waiting for some sort of judgemental look that heās sure heāll get. Not because he feels motorcycles might be too muchĀ for herāheās certain that itād take a lot more to shake someone like her upārather that she might laugh at him for being such a clichĆ©.
āI know, I know. Itās bad enough I dress like this and donāt cut my hair. Itās just a frugality thing, I promise. Iām not trying to be some kinda VK stereotype, I just happen to like the fact that bikes are usually cheaper on gas and maintenance. And on that note, I hope you know weāre splitting the gas money,ā he jests.Ā Mostly.
Ā āRelax. She only told me about this weird bird thatās been following you..Iād say that you should appreciate your first, and probably last fan,ā she teases him.Ā āBut in all honesty, even I donāt know why itās acting that way, and I grew up with worse. Have you tried looking into it?ā
āNot exactly. At first sight, yeah, until they talk to me. Then they say Iām too intense. But I mean, I donāt need them anyway,ā she shrugs, linking arms with him and continuing to walk.
Motorbikes were something new to her but she knew that they were fast, slightly dangerous and not the most common when it came to means of transport; in a few words, nothing short of exciting. Her expectations were beyond reached, cliche or not.
āYeah, the only thing youāre missing is a tattoo shop...oh, wait,ā she joked in response.Ā āBut in all honesty, it doesnāt really matter. Motorbikes are cool. Or at least, I heard they are. Where are you keeping it by the way? Does the school have a parking lot thatĀ I didnāt notice or..wait. Did you sneak it somewhere so you donāt pay for the parking?ā, she tilted her head, smiling.Ā

āI wouldnāt have any trouble getting into Auradon, at least I donāt believe I would,ā She was well educated for being from the Isle and her father wasnāt one of the most hated villains, it was a matter of actually leaving behind the Little she had here to go to Auradon.
āI did have a Pride, but like I said they left me because my priorities shifted. I donāt know what they decided to do or if they even have another leader at this point. I havenāt cared to check on them and I donāt care to continue taking about the subject.ā
Eniola would have been lying if sheād said she wasnāt vaguely disappointed that Ayana couldnāt stay. She wanted to hear about anything else that was not her going to school. At least for now, āSomeone else brought you here? What, someone else they need to recruit for school?ā She didnāt mean for it to come out sounding mean but didnāt correct herself, āIf they can blend in theyāll be fine.ā
āGot itā, she sighed. She couldnāt figure out whatās gotten into her, beating around the bush so much. It might have been the risks she took to have this conversation, as used to taking risks as she was. Still, she didnāt try commenting any further. The other girl has made her intents clear.
She chuckled a bit, āNah, heās an AK. You might have heard the story of Aladdin and his magic carpet? Well, it turns out his son has the same hobbies. So I convinced him to take me here and he could meet his pen pal. As for fitting in...I donāt know. Heās stupidly brave, but not Isle material. Though, I wouldnāt lose anything by asking,ā she thought. If she stayed one night, she could at least have more time. Aziz could handle it.
āLead the wayā, she said in the end.
āHello! Youāre new here, right? I donāt think we have met yet, my name is Kalani!ā
āOh, hi! Not really new, just isolated. But Iām cool with it, I didnāt expect anyone to approach me. But now that youāre hereā¦Iām Ayana Kani. You have a beautiful name, Kalani.Ā ā
āOh! Iām sorry to hear that! Isolation can help clear thoughts but can also cause lonelinessā¦are you trying to focus on something? Thank you! I think Ayana is a wonderful name!ā
āOh, itās ok. I donāt really fit in here, thatās why people donāt come to me. No, I mean Iām trying to figure out why my father sent me here but itās hard whenĀ people try to tell me what to do. Itās nice of you to try and help me, do you do this with every new student? Thank you, my father gave it to me. Speaking of names, where are you from exactly?ā
āReally? I am sure you just have not met the right people yet, not everyone can be best of friends, you know? I think itās a shame people donāt come up to you, I was told you are a very nice person. No not reallyā¦just the ones I notice I guess? Who is you father? Parents donāt tell us things for a lot of reasons, I am sure he knew what he was doing! Iām from the island of Motonui, what about you?ā
āAh, fair. I donāt expect that to happen, really. I donāt even want it. But itās just difficult to fit in here, you know? To say that itās a culture shock would be an understatement after living in the Pridelands all my life. I suppose you might understand what Iām talking about. My father is Rafiki, shaman and royal advisor of the Lion King. You know, he used to be a baboon. Nothing like any of the royals whose descendants study here, for better or worse. Though, now that you mention it...he does have a habit of telling riddles instead of giving straight answers. I suppose I shouldnāt be that worried, but I wanna make him proud too. Ah, Motunui. I heard about you guys, the voyagers of the sea. That has to be amazing, seeing so many things and never settling.

So you tell weird riddles and stuff like your dad? @asklittlestsister
āAgain, depends on what you mean by weird. Are they hard to figure out? Maybe, but theyāre meant to guide you. Now, do I tell them as well? Not really, I prefer to say things as they are, as you might notice soon enough. That doesnāt mean I donāt want to inherit his job one day, but I wanna do my own thing with it.
Anyways, why do you ask? A royal looking for help or just someone really bored?
asksavannahchildā:
āAh, look, someone who respects other peopleās privacy. Youāre not from here, are you? But,look, I wouldnāt mind showing one of them to you, you look like you really need it. I know right? They probably didnāt make it bigger because they didnāt expect such a large wave of new students as the one of the VKās, but still, Doesnāt quite meet the expectations for the so-called happiest place on Earth.ā:
āThe Isleās tight and full of jerks, but I know how to keep out of peopleās business. I wouldnāt say being alone is the happiest place on earth either, but like, come on, give me a break from the goody-goodies. Where do you like to go? Since apparently you think I need it so much.ā
āAh, fair. I guess living there does teach you a thing or two about keeping to yourself. I imagine itās a balance between staying hidden and getting out when you can to take what you need. I know right? I donāt get the education system either. I donāt know how they expect us to sit between four walls for 6 hours and pay attention too.,,itās draining all my energy. Hmm, well I used to go to theĀ lake but then people started having dates there..climbing trees usually does the trick. Few people do that, let alone figure out that youāre there if theyāre looking for you. And if weāre talking off- campus, abandoned places are the best. Beaches, buildings and the likes.Ā ā

Ayana shrugged.Ā āI saw the chance and took it. Maybe now now, but you can at least apply for a scolarship right? I donāt understand what could possibly keep you in this trash heap.ā
She sighed.āYes, of course you do. Scar may have been a disgrace to his family, but as his daughter youāre still a princess of the Pridelands.ā, the girl explained. So do as you will but I think theyād welcome you with open arms. They banished Scar here thinking it was the best choice but they didnāt know about the kids. And besides, my father always said that the Isle is in complete violation of the Circle of Life. Which is true.ā
āI know this is overwhelming for you, but..you can at least think about it.āshe continued softly.Ā
Eniola sighed, how could she explain what was keeping her here to someone like Ayana? Someone from the Pridelands? Someone who was exactly what Eniola wanted to be. The softness is her voice caught her off guard and the way that she talked about Eniola having a family was, like Ayana speculated, overwhelming. It was nice to hear about them though, and what they said of the Circle of Life her father had taught her about.
āI-I donāt think thatā¦ā The sure worded girl was speechless for a moment, could she really leave behind this for the world of Auradon? She sat herself down on a rock to let some of the pressure off of her bad leg, she looked Ayana in the eyes and pulled herself together, āI can not leave. Not now. It is not- is is not my time to leave.ā
Ayana sighed,Ā āFigured as muchā she replied drily before kicking a small rock a few meters away. If this trip really was for nothing, then she wouldnāt know what to do next. She was planning to convince Eniola to leave and then never return to Auradon. Her plan was ruined.
The lack of an actual answer made Ayana more frustrated, though she often avoided questions about her motivations herself. A thing that they might have had in common.Ā
āOk, I see that even the scolarship is too much of a commitment. You know, if you have a Pride here that is holding you back, I can try getting them out too. Well, not me personally, but through Alemayehu. The school board will never accept a request from me, especially after they find out where I went. And speaking of that, I donāt know when Iāll be able to return.ā
āIt isnāt too much of a commitment,ā She wasnāt sure if Ayana had meant that as an insult to her abilities or not but assumed so,āI donāt have a Pride. Well, I donāt anymore at least. I did for a while, we were a strong crew, but my focus shifted elsewhere andā¦well letās juts say it wasnāt something they could handle.ā
There was a bitter note in her voice, it definitely wasnāt something she was willing to expand on just yet, but it was obvious that it wasnāt a pleasant memory for Eniola. She suddenly felt tired, as if just the short conversation had exhausted her. She knew that Ayana had traveled here for this and could read her disappointment in her vagueness. Eniola sighed,āDo you need somewhere to rest tonight? I donāt know if your ride home is staying here but my father wonāt be home tonight so thereās no chance of you running into him.ā
āAh, thatās good news thoughā, Ayana thought.Ā āI was just saying that because I have commitment issues and I assumed it might have been the reason. But if you can apply for a scolarship and you donāt have a Pride...ā, she shrugged. But she didnāt finish her sentence. It was clear to see that the girl was tired of it by now and she sort of understood why. Sheās been told before that not everyone liked making plans on a whim. To her, it was a habit.
āI see...so they left you? Picked another leader?ā,she was curious. While she didnāt like Scar much, she recognised his royal origins and expected his daughter to be a natural leader.
She looked down, wondering how to answer. Of course sheād like to spend more time with her, telling her stories of the Pridelands. But her ride was waiting for her and she couldnāt afford getting stuck there if he left without her.Ā
She chuckled a bit,Ā āYeah, I donāt know what Iād do if I actually met the guy. Iām not afraid, though that I know. But you donāt have to do it, really. I have a ride waiting for me at the docks...letās hope he hasnāt gotten himself killed yet,ā she shook her head.Ā
āDonāt kiss me if youāre afraid of thunder. My life is a storm.ā
