Do you it would be okay for me to start an Ask Blog even though I can't draw??
Sure! Ask blogs can be done in many ways! You can use cosplay, text edits (a popular format is the texting format) and more!

Ah I was wondering on what that plus 1 on the ask blogs icon is for? One character? Im just curious because I want to design my icon for one and im not really sure if I should put it or not
Itās a symbol that used to be used on tumblr next to the ask box to tell you there was a new message, whether or not you use it is entirely up to you!Ā
Hi, I have a web comic/ask blog I'm working on, and I was wondering if I should add myself in the comic, not like the narrator but like ONE of the characters. I don't see this in any partictular comics/or ask blog but I want to know your opinion.
Mh, usually self-inserts aren't very popular with most readers. It's up to you, but I wouldn't recommend it.
CamScanner: a must have for traditional artists!
hello! I recently found this rad app calledĀ āCamScannerā, a mobile app for android and iOS
what does this app do? well, basically it imitates a scanner, so even if you donāt have one, you can take real cool pictures of your drawings!
for this to work, i suggest you take a picture of your entire paper / sketchbook / etc. The app will automatically crop your picture and come out with something like this:
(sometimes it wont be too accurate, but that can be easily fixed by moving the frame yourself)
once scanned, the app will make it so your drawing looks like this:
(the app will have some presets, so you might want to mess around with those. OR you can mess with the settings yourself to get a look you desire)
this can be really helpful if you plan to color your traditional piece on a computer, or something similar.
this can even work with colored drawing, if youād like!
original:
edited with CamScanner:
if you mess with the settings yourself, i bet you could get the picture to look better, as i did this with the presets.
anyway, i hope this helps!

There is an app for this now! Amazing!
Affordable askblogging for beginners part 3 - Digital Postproduction with nothing but your phone. (A big thank you to @st-marten-girl for her drawings!) Nowadays, most apps will be able to provide the tools you need for a satisfying edit. It will not look like a high-end photoshop edit but it will work for a tumblr askblog! I am using my Samsung Galaxy A5 for this. 1) Choose your frame Frames are important business. Do not let your art just float in the middle of your canvas. Use composition lines or just try out what looks best (If you are a total beginner at composition, look up the Rule Of Thirds. Also learn what Dead Space means and how to avoid it!) I usually stick to 4:3 or 16:9 formats because that's a standard in film and photography. 2) Contrast Try to get a nice contrast so your lineart stands out. The cleaner your lineart the better (avoid shading with HB pencils. Actually, the best choice is a clear cell shading with markers -> Stabilo pens and text markers are perfect for this!) 3) Coloring You can use your phone for some quick simple shading. It won't look perfect but it does its job. Works just fine for some blush or eye colors if you ask me! 4) Text Use the text tool. Hand written text will usually look bad unless you got some real good hand writing. Plus, many apps have a word limit for their text elements so you avoid writing too much. This is actually good! You can draw a free-hand speech bubble and insert the text digitally or draw the speech bubble in the app. Both works. Inserting pastel colors to make the text stand out has the whole picture look more balanced! I hope this is helpful to beginning artists who only have their phone and some pens at home! Have fun creating!!

I've seen your post on how to take traditional art and filter it but what program were you using and what other programs exist that can do the same thing?
itās not a post I made, but you can do this with basically any program. You can play around with different apps and see what suits you best!
A small tutorial on how to use text markers for coloring because some people asked me in the tags of that one drawing of Romano how I did it. Those cheap colorful thingies are AMAZING for blending colors!! Iād say they do a better job than most professional pens (like Copic) and they last forever! I use them at school when Iām bored in Ethics class or have nothing to do when I finished my English exercises.
Some tips: 1) Complimentary colors work best for shadows (light -> yellow, shadow -> purple) 2) Use the 2-3 seconds your text marker dries on the paper and blend it with another color 3) Donāt be afraid of using bright colors in usual places. Chances are it looks great. 4) This is a great way to study shading because you donāt have any black. You gotta mix the colors in order to get a good shading that doesnāt look muddy. 5) Sharp edges are cool. Do not blend everything, always remember that light can cast really weird shadows. Have fun with your cheap long-lasting art supplies!!

Hey! Do you know anything about designing your blog, if yes: how do you create a drop down menu? On my blog I have pages like home, archive etc, and tags (for my tagged posts) Now I would like to make a drop-down menu with different 'main tags', so that the tag page doesnt become really long and confusing. Also, this way people that visit my blog can have a quick scan of wat I post generally. How do I do this?
Okay, so Iām not expert coder or anything but recently Iāve been working with those good old container themes. Iām trying to learn theme creation but it is hard so what Iām going to do is:
Tutorial! Yes, I found one of those for you! It will take playing around and time but I get it if you like your current theme and donāt want to change over.
Themes with Drop down Menu Included!Ā If it comes to it, you can always check a theme hunter/theme help blog. I really like @roleplay-theme-recs whenever Iām hunting for a new theme for any of my blogs so also check them out!
Another Tutorial!Ā For just in case, you know?
If we can help in any other way, let us know!
Do you look through blogs if asked and give advice? Or is it just general advice on this blog? Thanks.
I believe that would depend on the admin and what you want. I wouldnāt mind doing it and I know other admins have done it in the past for blogs. Just donāt expect those to be answered as quick because of analysis. Also, please send it off anon so we know you actually want it and if you wish, we can answer it privately!Ā
So I'm thinking of putting one of those character memes on my blog? Like those ones where it asks a bunch of questions and people send you numbers and the character they want to answer? Is that a good idea?
Itās a wonderful idea! Ask memes are icebreakers! Sometimes peoplehave trouble thinking of questions on their own so it helps to have somethingthere to justĀ āAh yes, this!ā I highly recommend ask memes.

Admin Ryan back and Iām excited to be helping again!
Iām going to quickly apologize to everyone (admins included) for my disappearance but it was for my own health and personal needs to step away from the World of Tumblr. However, Iām back!Ā
If you see the Rapunzel icon, that means that I am answering the question (need to redownload X-Kit), and if you want to address a question to me, just include my name somewhere in that handy dandy ask.
But, hello! I will be on much more often and I really have to update my page. I will still gladly help with anything cosplay related, but now I will also happily help in the theme and promo department if you need it. I recently got photoshop and Iām hooked (just donāt ask for PS gifs because Iām clueless on that atm)
Iāve also recently started from the ground up on a roleplay blog (kind of similar but not really) so if you have any questions on that, please let me know.
My ask blog is always empty, any ways how to make people ask questions on my ask blog?
Send yourself anons, answer the questions you want to answer. You canāt make people ask you stuff no matter who you are. Itās hard to believe, but we all struggle with receiving asks sometimes. Itās not cheating to send yourself something. Especially if youāre just starting out and want to spread your blog a bit, yeah?
It will take time to get those asks flowing in and even then it probably wonāt be a daily basis. If you get a lot of asks at some point, be a squirrel and stock up for the slow days. Hope this helps and best of luck!
I'm making my ask blog for a very small fandom. The show ended last year but there are many blogs for the fandom that are still going on. I know there is at least one (incredible) ask blog that is currently active, so there are people still loving the show. I know getting people to notice you is hard even in a large, active fandom, so my question is, should I keep asking myself anon questions till it picks up? Thanks!
Sending yourself anons is honestly one of the smartest things. No one wants to say it, but we all do it. Whether it be because itās a slow day or because we really want to answer something, we all send ourselves anons.
I recommend also checking the tag for the fandom, following people who like it if they post stuff you like, and maybe reaching out to other ask blogs in the community. It also doesnāt hurt to sometimesĀ ācross fandomsā just make sure the blog you try to do it with is cool with it.
I hope things are going well with you on your blog, have a wonderful day!
Should I politely address the unkind nonnies or just ignore them? Different people do different things and I want to know what you think the best course of action is.
Well, I know quite a bit about anon hate. It comes with the territory. All I can recommend is ignore and use that block button. tumblrās blocking system isnāt the best, but it doesnāt hurt to try. If worse comes to worst, turn off anon for a bit. It doesnāt mean they won or anything. Itās just you taking a break from the battle, yeah?
Tumblrās supposed to be fun. Donāt let people ruin that for you with rude anons. Best of luck to you!
I just started an ask blog and do you have any advice for getting it off the ground and noticed?
Well, you canāt expect followers and asks in a day, trust me. BUT to get off the ground, I recommend following others (no publicity better than showing up in someoneās activity), making a promo of some kind (be it graphic or text post), and just making sure to tag properly when you post answers to asks.Ā
Hope this helps and sorry if itās late! Good luck with your blog!

hi~ I recently started an ask blog and I have it all prepped and stuff ). how can I promote my blog? ik I can follow other blogs but how else could I make it appealing? (the URL is popo-and-nana if you want to look at it, thanks in advance xx)
I recommend making a promo graphic or making a quick post sayingĀ āNew ask blog for _____ please spreadā and then tag it with stuff such as the fandom or if an oc unaffiliated, general tags such asĀ āask blogāĀ āart/cosplay blogā, etc.Ā
And to anyone out there reading this, be sure to check this blog out!
Sorry this is coming so late, I forgot the password for my blog meaning I couldnāt get to the sideblog. Consider this open for business!!
I've got a really good (at least I think) idea for an ask blog with a few canon characters and a few OCs of mine. I'm not good at drawing people, so I've got two options- draw some background stuff for emphasis, and have any speech written in different fonts and with different colors, or not do the blog at all. Is having the characters write things down not a good idea? The show I'm doing this for breaks the fourth wall all the time, so that's the least of my worries. Thanks you for your time!
There is actually several ways to do this!1) TextingĀ Many blogs use text messages between their characters. Very effective and easy to make, good for humor2) RoleplayEmphasis on interaction with other blogs so I donāt know if this is for you, but it may be a good idea3) Make shitty drawingsSounds odd, but trust me thereās a lot of potential with this if you go for a certain type of humor. Remember that manga artists like ONE started out like this!
