I haven’t booted up a save of DF in a couple years but there’s a magical moment where everything clicks and you’re not just scrabbling around on a hillside with stockpiles in the mud but thriving. You’re brewing beer, sitting on +wooden benches+ at *stone tables* and (for the time being) you really believe you’ve got the hang of it.

A major congratulations to our grand-prize winner, @askamxu ! 

This was, by far and away, the best piece of artwork I’ve seen for DF in some time. It’s so warm and inviting, and the friendly, slightly tipsy faces of the Dwarves here make me feel welcomed. I love the subtle colours, how the open sky outside draws the eyes to the trees and birds, how intricately-carved the stone tables are - the cat’s yellow eyes pop in just the right way.

I cannot stress this enough - I would probably buy this as a print or poster, or even for a mug or shirt. It really does feel like something officially made for the game itself, in ways I wish I had the vocabulary to describe. An absolutely brilliant piece of artistry!

As of right now, the art contest has concluded. I'll be posting the images submitted and then tag the winners after showing what our wonderful community has made.
