she stands, "On that note, I wish to bring forth a piece of evidence that I believe may be of some importance to this case. If I may approach?"

She does not wait for an answer, her heels clicking as she walked across the room, placing the evidence on the table in front of Councillor Heimerdinger. it was a paintbrush of some sort, next to it was a vile of the drug Shimmer.

"I believe Councillor Salo could explain to you what that is." she says, flipping her hair and turning away to walk back to her client.

Talis tenses at the mention of shimmer, and Heimerdinger looks curiously at Jin as she places the item down. Talis, being next to Heimerdinger, see's it first, "Shimmer? Where did you obtain this!?" he asked hurriedly.

Salo looks disgusted at the association, looking at the brush and drug with some disdain, "Shimmer. The undercity's prized illegal drug. What? You say I can explain it as if it's such a huge mystery to what that thing is."

"If you check it you will find one of the alleged victim's DNA on it in addition to a very large amount of shimmer." she clears her throat, "Council, I would ask you to ponder the effects of Shimmer on the mind. The drug is an adrenaline substitute, when administered it fights to keep the user alive at all cost." she paces in the courtroom, her pumps hitting the floor loudly every step. She gives Councillor Salo a quick glare before continuing her speech.

"We must consider that a certain victim could have hallucinated the entire scenario. perhaps all of the victims did, Shimmer has become quite the problem in both the Undercity and Piltover over the years." she sighs, shaking her head disappointedly.

Salo did not like the glare. He was obviously extremely annoyed by it, but remained poker-faced, glancing between Jin and Cane.

"Unrestricted and poorly handled contraband within the academy is enough reason to nullify Miss Jin's credentials and send Arcane into Stillwater." Salo said smugly, "The contraband was not presented prior to trial, nor was any approval given to have the physical thing inside this room."

The crowd seems fearful and confused...whispers about the shimmer and such being spread across the houses.

"I'm sure when you test the device you'll find a sufficient amount of his DNA though." she folds her arms, "Which should be satisfactory, yes?"

"And on the topic of poorly handled contraband, I can assure you that the evidence has not made its way to anyone else's hands." she nods.

"The evidence was not acquired until after the trial had started. if you wish, you may see the paperwork that was filed in order to collect the evidence." she unfolds her arms.

Now, most of the crowd was Piltovan houses with influence. So, when Jin said that, she was met with various displeased comments from the audience, barely bothered to hide it. The accusation apparently did not resonate well with anyone in the room.

"Silence, silence!" Heimerdinger insists, "Miss Jin, it is not helpful to dance around who you're accusing of using contraband!" the golden yordle said, yelling a bit louder than he usually did.

"I understand the want to get your client's sentence reduced, but you're providing nothing solid for us to truly reduce it!"

Bolbok's gears whir alive again, "You state that we "know" of the drugging, but as Councilor Heimerdinger has stated, you're just pointing your finger."

She glanced over to Salo again before quietly making her way back to her client, standing beside him.

"I obtained it from a prostitute working in a brothel in the undercity. In addition to her profession, she participates in recreational healing methods, these treatments include the use of Shimmer on her clients." she nods, her words carrying zero judgment.

"Also on the papers which I handed to the professor is the paperwork I filed in order to obtain the device. if you check the brush you will find fingerprints belonging to one of the alleged victims as well as the woman who administered the drug." she folds her arms where she stood.

THE TRIAL

Councilor Salo only sneers at the man, clearing his throat before speaking.

"Arcane Kidnapper," he starts, voice holding more disdain than it should, "For the crimes of kidnapping citizens, kidnapping governing officials, terrorization, theft, adultery, and general malicious activity — you are on trial in front of your city, a current minimum penalty of 15 years within Stillwater for your actions."

Heimerdinger hushes Hoskel with a loud, "shh, shh! Let the man speak his case, Councilors. I am sure he has well reasoning for his plead."

The yordle gestures to Cane, then looks towards the man expectantly, a barely sympathetic expression on his face.

“And…Terrorization? Again, I did nothing like that.” He pauses to think for a moment, tapping his chin. “Yeah, no, I’m not a frickin’ terrorist, I can’t even think of anything…—anyway; theft? I’m a kidnap—I mean, I’m neither a kidnapper nor a thief, so…”

Oh, ever the savior.

"However, the terrorization does count towards the kidnapping of Councilor Salo and Councilor Hoskel." she stated, looking to the two fellow councilors, "As for whatever reason they were taken, it caused fear and distrust amongst the people."

A few "oohs" and more whispers pass through the crowd, the stares intensifying.

Bolbok's gears turn, the hiss of his voice becoming audible, "Your legal name is Arcane Kidnapper, and the pinned on the communications site known as... Tumblr, clearly states you were trying to, quote, "live up to your name." "

"If that is not incriminating enough, there are various posts showcasing your victims."

When Bolbok is interrupted again, the courtroom almost erupts again, but goes silent. Councilor Shoola stiffens at the mention, looking to - you guessed it, Salo and Hoskel, a warning look on her face.

“Okay, it was photoshop…” Cane mumbles halfheartedly, rolling his eyes as he suddenly finds the ceiling to be quite interesting. “Like…Obviiii’! Duhhh.” He laughs nervously. He then makes a quiet ‘Oh!’ noise, and you could probably see the light bulb illuminating over his head.

“I have a wife. And kids.” Cane looks back at the Councilor’s, nodding gravely. “I have a baby in the oven, My wife, Ivy? Yeah. Six whole months along. SIX! And…I think…uhhh.” he counts his fingers, muttering under his breath. “4 pets. We got-we-we got, Opie. He’s a new one, a golden retriever. He’s adorable, I’d love to show you a picture some time?” He giggles. “Uhh, we got Tater! A skrunkly wobbly lil’ cat. We have, uhhhh, DEX! A cute lil’ guinea pig. And we have Muffin. She’s a Sphynx, absolutely cuddly.”

At least the Council let him finish talking before speaking - even if Hoskel was a little amused by the stuttering... and Talis seemed more concerned than anything.

"Although we appreciate the story, it doesn't really help your case." Councilor Talis said slowly, "Anyone, no matter their background or how successful and happy they seem, can be corrupt."

"Unless an external source can prove you're not the one who was responsible for the kidnappings!" Councilor Salo introjects, "Which, it is impossible to not be you. Both Councilor Hoskel and I had seen your face, it's impossible to be coincidental that you have the exact same features down to the last lash and not be the one who was responsible."

Kiramman hums, "He is a family man, it seems. Even if he is responsible, fifteen years for such a case seems horrible and unfair to him and his family."

"He should've thought about that before doing anything!" Hoskel shouts.

"We have an Ethos." Shoola reminds, "If he is responsible, he should not have fifteen years, but ten, minimum."

"Ten!? With the case of kidnapping not one- but two councilors? as well as innocents!?"

Wow.. these people dissolved to "debate" quickly.

"Quiet!" Heimerdinger suddenly shouted, tiny hands slamming onto the table, "Now..."

Cane coughs, “Uh.” he wracks his brain for a moment, gnawing at his lip. “Shit, uh, hold on! I-I need to think. Stop lookin’ at me…” He turns his back to the council, tapping his foot against the ground.

"Sources indicate that he is your room mate, yes?" she calmly asks, "Is your room mate present to testify for you?"

She knew the answer. They all did, probably.

"If that is all you have for your testimony, unless another individual presents themselves against or in your favor, you will remain within the academy's holding cells."

Medarda's voice was calculated. Kiramman chimes in. "He cannot be kept there forever. A thirty-day waiting period, perhaps? Then he can be re-trailed."

Hoskel huffs... "I see no need for a retrail. Make it fifteen, I say! and if no further evidence in his favor is presented, he will be sent to Stillwater."

Talis looks at Cane, then to the crowd, as if trying to see if anyone was willing to testify.

A satisfied, smug look is on Salo's face, now. "All in favor?" the blonde man declared, hand raising up as a slightly-less blaring spotlight shines over him.

Immediately, Torman Hoskel raises his hand as well. Hesitant, Cassandra Kiramman and Irius Bolbok do as well. Four to four.

Medarda and Talis look to Cane.

“WAIT!” Cane suddenly blurts, “Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, WAIT!!!” Cane flails his hands. “Please, I’m-I-I’m-I’m like, I’m like, like, like literally…” he breathes, “I’m begging.” He says weakly. “I…” he runs a hand down his face. “I’m sorry,” He looks to Councilor Salo, then Hoskel.

“I know it doesn’t mean much, but…” He frowns. “I wasn’t trying to create trauma, or hurt anyone…” he says. “I know you know that I actually fuckin’ did the crimes—pardon my language, and I can’t escape some sort of punishment, but I can’t…” He looks down, “I’m not gonna admit anything, but I am sorry. I didn’t…have malicious intent with the things I…” he pauses. “Listen, I can’t just be away from…from my family.”

Councilor Kiramman's softened, then. She puts her hand down and her light slowly flicks off. "Let us postpone the vote more. He has more to discuss."

"You can't just-"

"So be it." Bolbok cuts in, "You plead guilty, now. If this is full admission to your crimes, your sentence in Stillwater will be 10 years."

"He has just begged us to not imprison him in Stillwater. His family cannot visit him there." Talis yelled, "Surely, we have a...cell in Piltover for him? Or a lesser punishment?"

"This trencher-"

"His district should not determine his punishment, Councilor Hoskel!"

"Oh, Pardon me, though! What!? We let him get out with a 'lesser' punishment, what is next!?" Hoskel argues, standing up, "Who gets taken next? If we let one of them do these things, we're telling the rest of them it's okay to do it! 'Just because he has a family'? please."

"The people of the Undercity are still people of Piltover." Heimerdinger hushes, "Do not separate them from us. Yes, it is not right to give him a lesser punishment - just because, but it is right to allow him a lesser punishment as he is showing repentance for his crime, and a will to change."

...No one argues with Heimerdinger, yet.

What a messy trial.

"Good day, Miss Jin." Heimerdinger enthusiasticly greets (and at this point, it's hard to tell if it's actual enthusiasm), "Would you and your client wish to speak in private, or has the defense already been prepared?"

"We are not dropping that charge." Bolbok hissed, "The only charge we should have been willing to debate was adultery. It has been dropped."

Shoola sighs, "We must be keeping the law in mind and not just personal afflictions." She says, looking at Hoskel and Salo, "We are councilors. If we judge this man incorrectly, it is on us."

Councilor Talis takes out a medium device, "As well as these physical copies of various posts—" he coughs out, pressing the device and watching as it whirs to life, "There are these projections, for viewing."

He sounded so proud. The machine stuttered but began 'projecting' a hologram—

Heimerdinger looks a tinge angry, but eh...

Damn. Did they really print this stuff out?

Bolbok turns his head, "His wife may be biased."

"Hello Ivy, would you care to tell us about your husband Arcane?" she smiles to Ivy.

"The law clearly states any and all individuals who have harmed governing officials mentally, physically, emotionally, or psychologically are subject to minimum five years per official. Not to mention the potential harm done to Caitlyn Kiramman, Sky Young, Maddie Nolen and 'Anne', some of the few citizens he has kidnapped." Bolbok's voice hums, "Maddie Nolen is an officer, Sky Young and Anne are Academy students, Caitlyn Kiramman is the daughter to Cassandra Kiramman, a councilor. It could add up to another 10 years."

"If you wish to be reducing your client's sentence, why focus on who he is? Why not argue against the fact that he has kidnapped and publicly admitted to kidnapping several people?"

Shoola sighs, "We must be keeping the law in mind and not just personal afflictions." She says, looking at Hoskel and Salo, "We are councilors. If we judge this man incorrectly, it is on us."

Councilor Talis takes out a medium device, "As well as these physical copies of various posts—" he coughs out, pressing the device and watching as it whirs to life, "There are these projections, for viewing."

He sounded so proud. The machine stuttered but began 'projecting' a hologram—

She clears her throat, "My client, Cane, is a light in his friends and family's lives." she nods, "He's worked hard to get where he is today - a victim of circumstance." she sighs again.

"He used to live in the undercity, as all of you know - but today he lives in an elegant home in Piltover with his wife, their animals, and a family friend. Why would he throw all of that away? after all he's done to get to where he is today?" she folds her arms.
