World War 1??

No, no, old sport. We participated in the Great War. Calling it the first insinuates that others followed, doesn't it?? Nothing followed after.

But yes, I... I certainly didn't come back unscathed. You see a lot of things when you go out on the field... And what's worse, any effects that has on your brain, you get called a coward.

I suffer from shell shock, you see. And I saw several different men suffering similar. I'm well adjusted and I'm not easily triggered, however, when I am triggered, I shake and I get loud, and... lose my control, and I can get very violent.

Don't worry, that's not particularly a problem. Remember? I'm not easily triggered.

What is a problem are the night terrors that come with my condition.

Nick:

This... isn't really a pleasant thing to discuss. That war did horrible things to a lot of people. I wouldn't consider myself human if I'd walked away completely unfazed.

I don't do very well with loud, unexpected noises. They make me freeze on the spot or duck under the nearest cover in a fit of panic. It's the worst feeling imaginable... like I can't breathe. Even storms make me uncomfortable, but I'm getting a little better with thunder.

I do sometimes have nightmares as well, but with Jay around, I'm learning to cope with those better. We kind of balance each other out like that. We know how to handle one another when the triggers arise.

Thankfully, I'm not prone to violence when these attacks happen, but it's still one hell of a blow to the ego.
