"Very well." That was an easy thing to do; the Elsen was still standing outside of the small underground room. After a brief conversation with the mining capped man, the pair was granted permission to enter the main mining system.
It was in the mines that Tselel found out that his puppeteer was high leveled â at least compared to himself and the enemies around this Zone. The octet of spectres that surprised them were handled with relative ease. Traversing the mines went without much incident and offered some fairly good experience; Tselel and Alpha had both gained two levels in the process.Â
With the east mines blocked, the only route available was up a ladder the exited in front of some unmarked buildings. Before they had the chance to begin exploring, an Elsen approached them, informing them that the barns they were seeking were filled with spectres. They had just gone through similarly-infested mines; Tselel didnât believe that the barns would pose much of a challenge.
Being tugged forward by an excited player, Tselel followed behind Signal until they approached the barns. Reflexively, he grabbed Signalâs shoulder and pulled him back, away from the tall man that stood with a few Elsen. White knuckled gripped his bat, Alpha buzzing with the anticipation of a fight.
Signal didn't quite understand why Tselel had looked at him with such confusion and shock in the mines. He had been doing nothing but sparring with the Judge until the man arrived, so fighting was natural to him. Well. Sort of. It was still hard to fight with a TV on his head, but at least he could sort of handle himself. And he even gained a level in the process!
But that was then.
At the moment, his real concern was the fact that Tselel had pulled him back - once more so far away from his goal of seeing the cows - and behind the Batter. What was going on?
He leaned past Tselel and Alpha to see what they were so hostile about, and paused. The sight that greeted him was a small group of teary-eyed elsen, all stammering and clammering at once to a tall monstrous man in a trench coat that hung to his ankles. "Big teeth..." Was all Signal could murmur in surprise as he studied the man.
As if hearing him, the elsen stopped chattering and looked at the pair and the Add-On, the man turning his head as if to follow their gazes. Despite his appearance - rough and crude and dangerous - Signal couldn't help but feel...calm.
No hostility radiated from the man as he stepped over to them, back straight like a soldier's. "What is your business here?" He asked, his voice surprisingly gentle despite the firm tone he was using. He turned his gaze to Signal when the boy held up a hand in greeting.
"Greetings, Tall Sir!" Signal exclaimed, smiling behind the screen. "We are here to see the bo...bo..." A frown. "The cows."
The tall man, seeming to almost smile, turned his gaze to Tselel next, then the Add-On. "And you?" He asked, voice softened slightly after hearing Signal's greeting.

Doing what was expected of him, Tselel approached the glowing ring. Â He looked behind him to his puppeteer and then to The Judge, a little wary that he was about to touch something that looked like it could shock him.
With his free hand, the Batter reached out, pausing a centimeter from the ring before taking a deep breath and touching it. Â The ring glowed a few lumens brighter before it levitated a it higher. Â Instinctively, Tselel brought his bat up and pointed it at the entity. Â The ring begin to drastically shrink and came to affix itself to the weapon. Â Tselel blinked a few times, watching the now bangle-sized Add-On glow on the tip of his bat. Â He looked back to Signal and The Judge, as if expecting them to say something. Â Greetings, Tselel. Â I am Alpha. I am to aide in your mission for purification. Tselel tensed. Â He hadnât heard the words in the physical sense â its like there was another voice in his mind, set independently from his own mind.
Signal stepped closer to the Batter once the ring had secured itself to the man's bat, eyes wide with curiosity behind the screen. He had thought that, maybe, he had heard a voice, but he wasn't sure. Maybe he was just hearing things. He smiled at Tselel and exclaimed, gesturing excitedly, "You did it! You have gotten us the Add On thing!"
The Judge purred and flicked his tail, apparently pleased that the Add-On had been retrieved. "It appears it has decided to accompany you both." He said, standing and stretching. He arched his back before turning and began to walk away. "We shall meet again soon, interloper and puppet."Â
Signal waved after the Judge. "Goodbye, Pablo!"
Once the cat had left the area, he turned his attention back to Tselel. "Well...we did not meet any spectres here. Maybe that was what the nervous miner was talking about? Should we go back and tell him it was nothing to be afraid of?"

Huh? You seem very strange. Who are you, friend? Have we met before perhaps?Â
Hail to the King, Baby
King snapped and turned to look at the intruder who had his head covered by a tv. He gave him a slightly confused and aggressive frown and cracked his knuckles.
"My file, Yes it fucking is. This file is my kingdom and you are trespassing here. I am not fond of those who come waltzing into my kingdom without a warning first. Who are you and why have youâve come here?" he snarled, barring his sharp teeth at the strange boy.
His eyes were odd, all were red with ice blue irises but one of his eyes was white with a yellow iris and no pupil. The crown on his head buzzed and bobbed up and down. This batter was not a friendly fellow at all. He tipped the other side of the scale, aggressive and rude.
Signal didn't seem phased by the King's rudeness or aggression, instead continuing to smile as he clasped his hands behind his back and began to rock back and forth on his heels. He was used to rudeness and aggression, so it wasn't really anything new to him. But other Sporty Sirs, no matter how they acted, never tried to hurt him, so he really didn't anticipate this one to be any different.
"I am Signal, and I have ventured from Zome 0 to explore! I am thinking that I probably file hopped somehow. That is a thing that is possible I think." He said, not an ounce of fear displayed.
He tilted his head. "And now you are going to tell me your name, yes? Or should I continue to call you 'Sporty Sir?' Or..." He paused, lifting a hand to the screen as if he were thinking. "I suppose 'Sporty Majesty' would be better since you are calling this your kingdom?"
Hail to the King, Baby
bowtoyourkingbatter
Signal had never file-hopped before. It was strange - and neat. He wasn't quite sure how to do it consciously, but he had done it by accident somehow and ended up in a blank, empty white landscape. He was confused and mildly upset to see nothing but white with no signs of life save for strange whispering that crackled and distorted in his ears alone.
He decided that he didn't like that file very much.
But while he was contemplating how he could return home and to his friend Tselel, he spotted a man nearby. He looked similar to the other Sporty Sirs he had met before, and, behind the screen of his TV, he pouted a bit. Great. Another Sporty Sir to avoid getting hit by.Â
Despite his disturbing situation, he tried to look on the bright side. At least he wasn't alone. And he knew not all Sporty Sirs were like the rude ones - Arthur and Tselel had proved that much at least. So, with a smile that went unseen thanks to the TV on his head, Signal bounced happily over to the Batter.
"Greetings, Sporty Sir with a Crowny Ghost!" He chirped, holding up a hand in greeting. "Is this your file perhaps?" Probably. But still, for all he knew, maybe this guy was file-hopping to.

Tselel blinked down, looking at Signalâs hand on his arm, unsure of what the motion was supposed to indicate. Â It must be some sort of human concept, telling him to pay attention to the conversation; he would do as his puppeteer commanded. Â
It was a strange reason to be willing to fight the Chief of the Spectres for, but the actions lead to the mission continuing, so Tselel thought nothing against the plan as he followed his player into the tertiary mineshaft. Â
His eyes took a few moments to adjust to the darkness of the underground area. Â Looking over the television that was Signalâs head, he inspected the almost-empty room. Â The Judge sat at the far end of the room, between the two and.. Tselel wasnât quite sure what that was â some sort of glowing ring that hovered a few inches off the ground. Â Itâs glow pulsed slowly, as if it were illuminating each breath the Batter took. He stared at it for a few moments before tearing his view from it, lowering his gaze until he was looking at the grinning feline.
"Well well, who do we have here? Is that not Signal and his picturesque jumping jack, the Batter?" The Judge purred, smiling his Cheshire Cat smile at the pair. His tail flicked back and forth lazily as he watched Signal tilt his head in confusion.
Signal looked past the Judge to the floating ring, likening it to an onion ring almost before dropping his gaze to the Judge. "Ah...Hello, Pablo!" He greeted in a light and cheerful tone, raising a hand in greeting. "Are you what the Elsen above was talking about?" He certainly hoped not. Otherwise Tselel might try to purify his Zone-mate.
The Judge looked mildly appalled at Signal's question, flicking his tail in agitation. "Aha, no no, certainly not. I am only passing through, not unlike the smoke which is being extracted from this pale and metallic place. However, I believe I know where the one you are taking for an ectoplasm can be found."Â
As the Judge turned and began to approach the floating ring, Signal looked up at Tselel in confusion. After a moment of studying his friend's face, he followed after the Judge, stopping a few paces behind him and studying the floating ring. He was barely listening, just watching the pulsing ring and trying to figure out what it was.
"...called a spherical Add-On. I have very well tried to accroach it, but the operation has failed systematically so far. But I am thinking...maybe you will succeed in affiliating this spiritual entity to yours." The cat finished, watching the pair with eyes that told that he knew, already, how this interaction would go.
How the future would go.
A chill ran down Signal's spine, and he looked to Tselel, waiting for him to approach the "Add-On" as the Judge had called it.
{ + asignalfromnothingness has found salvation }
Alright! Then let us go and find him, shall we?Â
[Signal holds up a hand as if to wave, then turns on his heel and points towards the yellow building.] We will investigate his home first just in case. He is a cat after all.
Cats are sneaky and can hide very well. So purrhaps I missed him before?
[ Even in the Batterâs somewhat self-described infinite intelligence, Signalâs pun flew straight over his head, only earning a slight tut from the sporting fellow. ]
{ â } âIt would seem like the felineâs                   dwelling                      would be a good place to                         start.â { â }
[ The Batter swings his weapon over his shoulder, following the telecommunications man. ]
You mean his home, yes? It is really more like a fancy cat tower if you are asking me.
[Signal led the way inside, cupping his hands in front of where his mouth would be and calling, voice echoing in the first room they had entered.]
Pabloooooooooooooo!
[He stops and listens, then shrugs.] Not in this room. Maybe upstairs? Shall we hurry, Sporty Sir? Let us make haste before he finds a new hiding spot? Although I am not sure if he is actually here..His food dish looks very full.

Tselel watched the exchange, mentally sighing at how they continued to get side tracked. Â Directly accessing Pentel looked like it was going to be impossible, no matter what he thought or said. Â Though, did the Elsen say spectres? Â Those were one of the most unpure beings Tselel knew existed.
Perhaps the mission meant for this to happen.  He recalled a phrase, âeverything happens for a reason,â and decided that it must apply to this situation.
"We shall rid the mines of the spectres," he said, proud of himself for being so succinct. "They are unpure and must be purified."
Signal tilted his head a bit, confused. Unpure? Oh. Right. He forgot these Sporty Sirs were obsessed with the idea of purity. Maybe he should ask him later what his idea of pure was. Or had he asked that already? He wasn't sure. Oh well. No harm came in repeating a question. But at the moment, that was the least of his worries.
He wanted to see a cow, a real one, and if fighting some spectres was what it would take to see them, than so be it!Â
"If you are sure, but only until we are able to be seeing the cows, yes? Do not want to purify too much!" Signal chirped, patting Tselel's arm gently as if to quietly tell him to calm down. "So! Friend elsen!" Signal exclaimed, turning his attention back to the elsen that he had been speaking to moments before. "Where must we go?"
The elsen before them blinked owlishly, not sure of how to handle the situation. "Ah...uh. W, well...I can't let you into the mines...like I s, said. It is way too dangerous...but...one of the miners said that they saw something strange over there..." He pointed toward a set of stairs in the ground that traveled downward. "I, it might be the chief of spectres?"
Without waiting for further explanation, Signal turned and started walking towards the indicated set of stairs. "C'mon then, Sporty Tselel! We must defeat that spectre and see the cows in Pentel!"
[Squinting to make out where exactly Signal was pointing, he nodded a little too enthusiastically, paused, then shook his head firmly.] I mean, Iâm not uncomfortable or anything. I just canât see shit well in the dark, and this is⌠really dark. [Technically true.]
You live in Zone 0, you said? [He began walking in the direction indicated, putting his hands in his pockets.] Doesnât it get kinda lonely?
[Signal skips after him, swinging his arms exaggeratedly as he did so. He can feel it - that same cold feeling he always got when the voices became as distorted as they are. He swallows, remaining calm outwardly.]
No. Well, perhaps a bit, yes. But it is okay. Pablo keeps me company, and lots of people visit me sometimes, though they never stay long sadly. The Sporty Sirs are very rude sometimes, and I do not like them very much. One tried to hit me.
Everyone else has been kind though!
Where do you live, friend?
[He stops before the entrance to the Zone, hands behind his back as he waits for the other male to either answer his question or enter the Zone.]
ăâă âShe rubbed her chin, thinking about the offer: in the first place, she couldnât really object. To her purpose, every hand was needed to be counted, after all, but on the other hand, the part he could play in it would be quite dangerous. Wouldnât it be an inconvenience, as well, for the fact the Judge is allied with this boy? Maybe, a couple knots can be arranged.
¨Youâre that interested in exploring, huh? If youâre so, you may help me in the searching trips for left-overs and survivors! That, if you have the will to confront such danger, and ask the smiling cat for permission, off courseâ ¨ăâă
"Ah, do not worry, your highness!" Signal chirped, posing as if that would show her how reliable he would be on a dangerous mission. Honestly, he wasn't really sure if he could even fight. Oh well. He'd find out, he supposed.
Honestly, he was just honored that she would be willing to trust him with such a serious and important mission. "Danger is my middle name! Probably not actually. I do not know for sure, but it would be a very silly middle name." He grinned behind the tinted screen, hoping he didn't sound too stupid. "But that is being besides the point. I will help you, your highness! And I do not think I need to ask Pablo for purrmission, but I will just in case."

Watching Signal for any signs of discomfort, he waited until Signal spoke his confirmation of the headwearâs help.
Tselel seemed to relax. âGood.â Â He noticed the other looking at him and turned his head, looking in the direction of the Elsen.
And then he was looking back down at his own arm. Â The hem of the sleeve Signal tugged at was already stretched out from Tselelâs constant pulling. Â He appreciated that Signal was attempting to stay close to him; being near one another meant he could protect the Player as soon as an enemy appeared.
"Hm? Oh, yes. Â Let us ask."
He approached the hardhat clad Elsen, looking down at the short man, saying nothing.
"U, um." The Elsen stared up at Tselel, not really sure how to handle the towering, silent man that was looking down on him. He jumped and his hat slipped over his eyes when Signal waved and chirped out a happy greeting. "A, are you both from the administration?" He asked, dark eyes wide in confusion as he fixed his hat.
Signal tilted his head a bit. "No, I do not think so. We are just hear to see the cows."
"Cows?" The Elsen asked, confused.Â
"Yes. Cows."
"Um...W, well, the entrance to Pentel is currently closed...the only way to get there would be through the mines, but, but they're closed." The Elsen said, sounding more confused than nervous. At the curious head tilt he got from Signal, he continued. "Spectres have moved into the mines...it's made work very difficult for us, and has made mining smoke difficult..."
Signal blinked. Mining smoke? How strange...He looked up at Tselel. "...What should we do, Sporty Tselel? We cannot pass without getting rid of the spectres...and they are making this man's job hard."
Shadowbox [closed with @asignalfromnothingness]
Eyes narrowing a bit, Tselel did not look content. âWe can ask, when we find a merchant.â
One of his hands reached up and felt for his cap. Â While he did not like to take it off â he does not recall the last time he removed it â he knew he should do something to help his player. Â The material seemed breathable enough without being too rigid. Â
"For now.."
Tselel gripped the edge of the bill and tugged off the hat. He inspected it and yes, it could work as a makeshift facemask. Â He offered it to his player.Â
"Try breathing through this."
Once Signal took the hat, Tselel used the free hand to run through his hair; an attempt to ruffle the hair that had been flattened by the cap. Â While all of the hair that had been visible from under his cap was black, removing the cap revealed white hair where said cap had covered.
He pauses hand-combing his hair to look at Signal. Â âDoes it help?â
Oh. Tselel had very strange hair. But...it looked nice actually. He pressed the hat to his face, breathing in deeply. Oh, that was better. It thinned out the smoke just enough for him, and he was able to breathe without too much trouble, though he kept getting the strong, but not wholly unpleasant, smell of what he assumed to be Tselel.
It was almost relaxing for some reason...strange.
He looked up at the Batter, studying him for a moment before nodding quickly. "Yes! It is helping greatly. Thank you very much, Sporty Tsesel."Â
Smiling behind hat and TV, he reached out with his free hand and grabbed Tselel's sleeve between his fingers and thumb. He tugged on him lightly, indicating that the was ready to walk and stay by Tselel instead of running ahead like he had before.
Ahead of them, an elsen in a hardhat watched them warily, not quite sure what to make of the strange pair - especially colorful TV wearing one.Â
"Maybe he will know where we will find cows?" Signal asked aloud, nodding his head in the suddenly nervous elsen's direction.Â
