Dead end after dead end; that’s all Ashton seemed to be running into these past few days. He’d been instructed to take out some man who had tried to spill the company’s secrets recently, though the man seemed to have known something was going to happen to him and fallen off the face of the Earth. Even with his advanced sense of smell, he couldn’t seem to track the man. His boss was growing more and more aggravated as the days passed, and Ashton knew he needed to find the man and get rid of him as quickly as possible.
So when he finally caught a hint of the man’s scent, his curiosity was naturally piqued. Especially so when he wound up at an unfamiliar house, the scent of the man stronger than it had been in days. But knocking on this person’s door seemed to be out of the question; and anyways, the scent was stronger in the back. So that just left one option.
He just really hoped he wasn’t wrong.
Ashton scaled the fence easily, landing on his feet and glancing around the back yard for any traces of the man. The smell seemed stronger here, though it didn’t seem like the right place. He had probably passed through this area on his way else where. Of course. A door opened nearby and Ashton perked up, snapping to attention as he saw a figure step out of the house and into the yard…probably the owner of whoever’s yard he was standing in. Part of him yearned to simply rip out the throat of the person to save himself the effort of concocting some wild story about why he was on their property, though he knew that was just the hunter side of him that he had released when he started this damn goose hunt. He found it hard to switch on and off sometimes, especially when he got interrupted like this. But moments passed and Ashton seemed to gain full control again, and he straightened up and appraised the person who was now staring at him.
“Can I help you?” He asked, as if they were the one intruding on his property instead of the other way around.
