âYou can if you want. I think a black eye will really go with my hoodie.â He motioned to the blue hoodie, nodding to himself approvingly. âHow many have taken to the hills instead of keeping up with your pace?â
âDonât tempt me,â she warned, but her face cracked a grin. Relaxing her hand, she took to standing along the wall next to Jackson, arms folded. âLucky for you, there are actual punching bags here.â She had thought being a resort trainer would be much more challenging. Who would want to go on a vacation and come back all doughy from lethargy? âThat one makes seven. I figure I still have some job security so long as I donât hit the double digits.â
âPerhaps you should slow down a little..â Elsa says concerned as they walk past the scene going on in front of them. Itâs not that they really want to interfere with whatâs going on but the amount of people that look like theyâre going to collapse is a little worrying.
âDo I tell you how to do your job?â Ashlyn spat, staring down the other, still angry over losing another trainee. âI didnât think so.â Ash retreated to her locker, wrapping muscle tape on her arm. Of course the ice rink worker had a point, but Ash wasnât about to admit fault.
She rolled her eyes, though obviously still amused. âI think youâre meant to adjust the work out for the guest, not expect them to adjust to you.â
âCoddling your trainee is just setting them up for failure,â Ash retorted, as though memorized from a guide. In truth, she was still figuring out her new job. It wasn't in her nature to be relenting. âIsnât there a table that needs scrubbing somewhere?â she snapped.
Bartholomew could feel a rush of air blow by as a woman hurried past him, muttering something under her breath about fitness crazies. He approached the girl she had been running from, eyes curious. âShe seemed distressed,â he observed, flat but not unkind. âWhat have you been doing?â
Ashlyn sighed. She barely took note of Bartholomew as she racked the barbells, muttering to the man, âYeah, well, if she doesnât want to work hard, she has no place in my- gym!â The last word was uttered with a grunt of effort as Ash removed one of the heavy discs. âWeightlifting, as you can see,â she monotoned.

Jackson watched in muted horror as another one of the girlâs partners ran off, though he couldnât stifle the laughter that bubbled from the pit of his stomach. âSorry, sorry, I donât mean to laugh, I just canât believe that youâve scared off that many people.â
Astrid approached the ice rink worker, mouth set in a frown. âYou gunna wipe that smug look off your face, or do I have to do it for you?â Astrid growled, knuckles turning white as she cracked them into a fist.
Paxton laughed as she watched the person take off, glancing over at the young woman who was yelling. âScare her off, did you?â
Ash scowled, standing and cocking out a hip. âItâs not my fault if guests have the endurance of a blade of grass.â Back home, three hundred push-ups was a perfectly acceptable warm-up.
âTwo forty-eight, two forty-nine, two fifty! Nice work, only fifty more! Huh? HEY, WHERE DO YOU THINK YOUâRE GOING? Man, not another one...â
Ashlyn Hofferson || Twenty-three || 27 May 1991 ||Â Emily Kinney
âShe was hotter than a kettle. A daughter of the devil. And a lot of them would treat her like a model or a medal.â
Character: Astrid Origin: How to Train Your Dragon Sex/Gender: Female/Nonbinary (agender) Job: Personal Trainer in the Gym
Personality Traits:Â
Positive: Determined, Strong, Fearless Negative: Aggressive, Stubborn, Violent
Past:Â
All it takes is one little mistake to change the course of your life, and Ashlyn made her mistake when she was just a little girl. Ashlynâs family was always the type that had to be the strongest, the bravest, and the ones most deserving of praise. She grew up proud of her family- they were the very best, and she could be a part of the legacy. The person that she latched onto the most wasnât either of her parents though. No, the person that she looked up to more than anyone else was her uncle. Uncle Finn was her fatherâs brother, and he was over at their house quite often during Ashlynâs childhood. Whenever he would come over she would attach herself to his side, begging him to regale her with stories. Later in life she would realize that he had never fought dragons or anything of the like for two important reasons. One: dragons were not then, and never had been, real. And two: he worked a desk job at a government agency. He was very successful in that and would often be praised by the rest of the family, but it wasnât interesting to a little kid. So he lied to her- but that wasnât why she would be angry with him for the rest of her life. Stella Draco was the first person to approach her after everything went down- or rather, she was the first person to approach who didnât throw her uncleâs arrest in her face. Instead of the often heard, âso what was it exactly that happened to your uncle?â or, âhey, I heard your uncle got arrested!â Stella walked up and asked if sheâd be her partner for the science project they were starting that day. Ashlyn never knew that it was so simple to start a steady friendship with someone, but the two of them have been friends ever since. Ashlyn gathered more friends about her as she started high school, but none of those would ever mean as much as Stellaâs did. Scott was obnoxious, the twins were loud, and everyone else was slightly annoying at best (forgettable at worst). She liked being surrounded by friends though. Though she would never admit it, with them she felt protected from those that would do her wrong. All the same Ashlyn is still trying to prove herself to the world. She still feels partly responsible for everything that happened- not because she could have stopped her uncle, but because she should have known better than to get attached in the first place.
Current:Â
Ashlyn easily acknowledges the fact that Stella came up with the idea to come to the resort, but she appreciates that she doesnât rub it in her face. Ashlyn should have been the one to come up with it, she thinks, because she was the one that had been so ready to get out of that stupid town. She loves her family and she loves the landscape, but that doesnât mean a thing when she canât stand the fact that everyone knows who she is. In another life her heritage would be something that she could take pride in, but sadly that isnât what she finds back in her hometown. Instead she just finds some place she wants to run away from.
The resort is just as much a place for her to start over as it is a place for her to spend time with her friends. Though sheâs a bit annoyed that certain someoneâs are coming along (read: Hiccup and Frederick, who she would rather have as little to do with as possible), she wonât pitch a fit about it because that isnât her style.Â
Connections:Â
Henrik Vast and Frederick Ingerman
The two poor kids who are bullied by the friend group Ashlyn has found herself a part of. While she doesnât usually get involved with the actual bullying, she doesnât stop it either and doesnât really feel guilty about it. She tends to use one or the other as a punching bag from time to time, but sheâs pretty sure it makes them feel included soâŚ
Stella Draco
Stella is, for lack of a better phrase, Ashlynâs best friend. If anything they are actually closer than that, but thereâs no word that Ashlyn can think of to describe their friendship. Stella is the person that Ashlyn would trust whole heartedly and without conditions.
Scott Jorgenson, Blake Ayden, Tessa Draco, Macey Laurie, Hayden Fang, Rowan Thorston and Tobias Thorston
The friend group that she has somehow found herself in the middle of. While sheâs not sure that she even likes all of them half the time, she knows that all of them have her back if something comes up. Thatâs all she really requires out of her friends because she already has Stella.
