Okay so hereās my two cents opinion about the most recent update about the Fates localization. Itās a long post Iām sorry.
This localization is a fucking mess. When Kotaku announced that skinship was being removed, I got really mad. Yes, I got mad about removing a feature that panders to gross and creepy otakus that has nothing to do in a SRPG blah blah blah, I know the song. But it was still removing a feature from the game and it made me really upset. First of all, Iām against everything censorship (yes, even if itās something as insignificant as this) I think that itās unfair that we donāt get the full experience of the game because we live on a different continent and we have ācultural differencesā. Then, I was scared that all the work that went into the live2D models went to waste because Treehouse and a thought it was ācreepyā and the experience we gain from the skinship would be removed. And yes, I gotta admit, I was (and I still am) salty it was removed because, even if it can become a bit tedious to do, I like rubbing my charactersā face and hair in the original version, I feel closer to them and can see a wide variety of expressions on their face. It was fun. Call me a waifufag or āthe cancer that killed FEā or whatever, I donāt even care anymore, thatās what I think. While skinship removal was the finishing blow that made me cancel my plans to buy it (I wasnāt even able to get my hands on a SE), this localization made me cringe from the moment information started coming out about it. First it was the Soleil controversy (that support was crap but itās still censorship), then the horrible dub and the name changes. I mean half of these new names donāt make sense at all. Thanks Treehouse.
So yeah, I was really mad and ready to set NoA on fire. Yesterday, Polygon streamed a bit of the game and it gave us a better idea of whatās coming in store for America. No dual audio, first of all, so you have to hear english Felicia and her beautiful voice (WEāVE GOT TROUBLE) and then comes what became of the skinshipping. At least, itās not like most of us feared, which is a fade to black with nothing, but instead you can see the characters, which is already good. They chitchat a bit then they leave. No touching. This is the best case senario, at least the Live2D models are still being used, which makes me happy. Iām still disappointed and about the fact that no touching (we wonāt get certain lines that comes only with skinship) and thatās itās kinda cheap (characters come in, say one line then leave) but at least itās not nothing. Other than that, they changed a bit of dialogue and that rubs me the wrong way but oh well.
Overall, Iām still unhappy about this localization, but for now Iām going to put my pitchfork down because it could have been worse. Iāll wait for the full game to come out and see if they changed more dialogues and if the changes are important and Iām gonna buy a used copy when I have the money (I spent all of my FE bucks on importing the JP game orz) because I still donāt want to support Treehouse after all this mess.
Sotty about the long post, Iāve been thinking about this for a long time and I needed to organize my thoughts about this situation.

We now know that 24 hours without sleep, or a week of sleeping four or five hours a night induces an impairment equivalent to a blood alcohol level of .1 percent. We would never say, āThis person is a great worker! Heās drunk all the time!ā yet we continue to celebrate people who sacrifice sleep for work.

If the light novel industry gets a sudden burst of popularity and light novels are in high demand, would you pick up your previously dropped light novels? Or would you guys still stay away from the industry?
Well, no harm in a hypothetical question, I suppose.Ā
Iāve discussed light-novels at length, but in this hypothetical case, we could potentially release series were originally licensed (by us). Potentially. In a hypothetical, unrealistic setting.Ā
Soā¦yeah, there is definitely a possibilityābut not something Iād count on as ālikely.ā Suffice to say, weāre skeptical about light-novel series and their potential in the US market. Youāre unlikely to break though that audience/demographic with light-novels; and yes, it has been attempted, and met with underwhelming results. So light-novels are stuck being a niche within the manga market (a niche within a niche).Ā
At the current time, we consider the ālight-novel market" an isolated success that doesnāt have much bearing on market actuality for the product at large. Butā¦hypotehetically-speaking, yes, there is the off-chance that we could release light-novels again, and crazier things have happened. āCC
I don't think I'd really go for light novels, but I light novels have really had their image damaged by the half-assed translations from Baka-Tsuki.Ā
If someone licensed the Strike the Blood light novels I'd buy them all, maybe even twice, since nobody bothered to license the anime for North American DVD/BD release.Ā
i have learned more than i ever cared to about steampunk hentai games
oh god there's such a thing as steampunk hentai?Ā

Tumblr 101:Ā How Tags work!
Only the first 5 tags count.
Start with the important tags (ex. show name, actor name, artist name).
If youāre the kind of person who fangirl like thereās no tomorrow like me in their tags, save that until the end.
Donāt tag your hate, thatās rude, childish and immature.
the first five tags of new (i.e. not reblogged) posts will only show up in tracked tags. however, you can have up to 24 tags (? i think thatās the right number. please correct me if iām wrong) of up to 140 characters each (after that tumblr will automatically cut off the tag with an ellipses), and those will still show up on your blog (and on your dashboard) for personal organization (or commentary) purposes.
Actually only the first TWENTY (20) tags will work for organizational purposes, but the total number of tags that will actually publish is THIRTY (30).
So for example, I just made a post and put forty tags on it. Hereās what will happen:
Only the first five (5) will show up in tracked tags
Only the first twenty (20) will cause the post to show up in the tag on my blog (i.e. surrexi.com/tagged/tag)
Only the first thirty (30) will actually publish; the rest will disappear into the ether
THIS MEANS THAT:
You have to prioritise things you want to show up in tracked tags first, and you only get FIVE TAGS, so you have to choose carefully.
You have a further fifteen tags (in addition to the first five) that will count when you/your visitors browse the tags on your blog (so if you have a āmineā tag or a āresourcesā tag or a variation thereof, itās best to put that in right after the tracked tags).
To know how many tags you have to use for FEELS etc, subtract the number of tags youāve already made from 30. (So, for example, if I make a post with five ātrackedā tags, a āstuff i madeā tag, and four organizational tags, I have 20 tags left for my feelings, ten of which will be purely for decoration.)
And of course, all of your tags must be under 140 characters.
Another awesome guide. And to reiterate what one of the posts above mentioned, reblogs do not show up in the tracked tags. Often Iāve seen people say āIām not tagging thisā when itās a reblog ā it doesnāt matter what you tag it! You can tag āhateā, or love, or anything; if itās a reblog, nobody is going to see those tags but you, your followers, the OP if they care, or someone obsessive enough to go through reblogs of a post they didnāt make. But it still will not show up in tumblrās public tracked tags.
Better tip:
Tag your hate.
Tag aaaaaaaall your hate.
Because you know whatās really rude, immature, and childish? Demanding that you never be exposed to anything that criticizes a thing you like, and then harassing people for daring to be critical.
I swear to god the ādonāt tag your hateā meme is one of the absolute worst things about this site, and itās made all the more galling because of the sanctimonious attitude people have about how superior they are for making sure no one is ever exposed to anything that might challenge their blind, fawning love for random fictional characters.
Otherwise this is useful though.
just so weāre clear:
getting called out for doing something shitty is not the same as āgetting hateā
if someone is telling you that you did something shitty, they are not criticizing you as a person
messing up does not make you an irredeemably awful human being
but how you respond to criticism can be a pretty good indicator of your awfulness
this part is really important imho
Unless it's politics and you're doing something rich fat people or other parties don't like. Then they are criticizing you as a person, they want you to burn and lose votes by the truckload and the media is plenty happy to make this easy.Ā
EDIT: The response part is the same though. I wish people would backpedal and try and shine shit over less. Oops Justin Trudeau made a flippant remark about some country behind closed doors. Who doesn't make flippant remarks?
Can we not have someone who will just say, yeah, I did do that, so what?Ā
Well actually we need someone who can stand up for themselves and who doesn't smoke crack, impede government activities, bail on their real job to grandstand and generally be totally incompetent.Ā
dennisnsantana replied to your post:How we decide as a society which substances to...
Donāt cheer on the US yet since the republicans seem to be cooking up bills going āweāll ālegalize itā but for extremely niche uses with tons of gatekeeping, like making only marijuana tea available to arthritis victims, everything else is illegal!ā
The best part about the United States is how they're barely united. They'll never have their way nationally.
The problem with the US is how you basically have no real choice in federal politics at all. "Here's you're ripoff, do you want red fries or blue fries with that?"
I almost used his title there, but no, Steven Harper is worthy of no titles. 2011 was fucking sad why did we elect him with a majority?

How we decide as a society which substances to allow and which to ban is one of my greatest rant triggers since it's all politics and money.
Oh no smoking kills people let's regulate it "almost" out of existence (but not all the way no we need dat tax money yo).Ā
Let's barely regulate drinking at all even though it's also Very Bad For You because mad tax money yo.
Let's ban pot for no reason that was ever fucking clear even though it's pretty much never killed anybody as the sole drug involved in an overdose.
The pot one irks me because the US beat us to legalization. Fuck you, Steven Harper, I hope you go down next year and we can reverse all your dumbshit policies.Ā
