lmao if this person is talking about ao3, I am almost a hundred percent sure that they are straight up lying. because ao3 explicitly and specifically allows dark/taboo fics that were banned on other platforms.

ao3 was literally created with the main goal of being fully anti censorship and allowing fics that were deemed dark, problematic, disgusting, messed up, taboo. so no, ao3 won’t take a fic down for being dark, problematic, disgusting, messed up or taboo. those fics are the exact reason why ao3 was created in the first place. (x)

unless a fic actually violates ao3’s rules—by being a stolen work, mentioning money, donation, commission, or not actually being fanfic, original work, or fanwork—ao3 will not take any fic down.

so if this person is talking about “getting fanfics taken down from ao3”, it’s one of these cases:

they’re lying

the fics actually violate ao3’s terms of service, but this has nothing to do with whether or not they’re dark/taboo fics

the authors chose to delete the fics themselves

Me myself? I’m not a fan of dark-fics. They’re just not for me. But I would NEVER report them or wish them taken down. It’s not about whether or not I personally LIKE them or WANT TO READ them, it’s about their rights to existing. People are allowed to create what they want, no matter if that thing offends you. It does not mean the author condones that shit happening in real life. There’s this thing called creative freedom, guys, and it’s growing ever more important in times such as these—because the creative freedom of some random ao3 author to write a dark fic is ALSO the SAME creative freedom of anyone to write ANYTHING. It cannot be differentiated. If you start censoring one type of writing, pretty soon all types WILL BE CENSORED.
