Barty tears his gaze away from his glass to find the rest of the world just as dizzying. By now, it really does look like the bartenders have four or more arms. He watches the nearest one mix and pour, mix and pour, fourth and fifth and sixth arms protruding from their sides.  

That's when Barty pauses. 

He squints. Because it shouldn't literally look like they have multiple arms, but their bodies have become a blur, every movement stilted like a poorly-loaded video sticking frame-to-frame.  

Barty tries to focus but his eyes don't want to cooperate. He attempts to push the stool around to look for Evan again but finds himself unable to get enough leverage—his fingers like jelly—boneless noodles attached to his arms.  His heart fights to beat harder in his growing panic but it struggles to beat at all.

Where do I start? Here's a bit of a summary: After escaping his abusive ex, Barty goes to live with Regulus and his roommate/bandmate, Evan, just as they're about to go on their first tour.

Basically, Barty and Evan are two people with many many issues and secrets, and when they crash into each others lives, those secrets start to unravel.

Here's a snippet:

The room spins. The walls split. Everything blackens. 

Vaguely, Evan can hear Barty's voice, but it's muffled. Like he's underwater, and his ears are flooding and so is his throat and Evan can't breathe. 

His hand lands on the wall and Evan doesn't hit the ground like he thought he would. The bathroom door jiggles, and Evan can't get it open. 

He can't. He tries, but it won't budge. He tries and—

“Let me help, Ev—are you okay? I'm sorry, fuck—here, I can—” 

“Open the door!”

Evan's lungs are sucked of his remaining air. The sounds of fists pounding on the door to his parents’ bedroom thump along with his racing heart. The TV in the living room casts a halo through the otherwise dark room. 

He'd been ignoring his parents’ arguing for over an hour. 

But the sound of violence makes him freeze. They'd been fighting worse lately. He only wishes his sister were here.  

Evan backs away, nearly tripping on dirty laundry.

“LET ME THE FUCK IN RIGHT NOW!” 

More pounding on the door. The awful crack of wood. The sound of a scream piercing through the air. A loud noise that rings in his ears. 

Then, all falls silent. Evan waits a beat. Two. Then tip toes down the hall. The door to his parents bedroom is wide open, a single large crack down the middle. 

The sounds of ragged breathing reach his ears the closer he gets. Instinct tells him to run, but love—even for those who've hurt us—tells him to keep moving. 

He swallows over a lump in his throat, and the room tilts as the blood rushes out of his head. 

A stranger voice is all he remembers—

“Hey, it's going to be okay…”

Into the Abyss is my very long insane dead dove marauders fic that I write with my friend Jess. It's about Evan and Regulus who start looking ahead into the future in there 6th years and all they see are horrors. But in their attempts to avoid them, they learn that time isn't so easily manipulated. Time has a mind of it's own, and so sometimes does magic.

“Cast it at one of the rats.”

It was as though the rat had a pin poked on the inside of it and its nerves and mass started caving into it, an inner black hole, a void that was empty and alone. Its blood, bones, nerves collapsing and swirling around inside its body, destroying itself. Screams were useless in the vacuum of space.

“And there's this… ecstacy. Yeah? You want it so… it's flooding through your body like a release, because the inner turmoil can finally leave your body.” Sirius eyed his brother.

There was the inner urge to grab onto love, but in doing so it would suck it into itself with the demand and need of the black hole in his chest. Always hungry, starving.
