Art with Teggy

The Dilophosaurus model is officially finished and ready for its test print! This guy comes in two versions: with a frill and without a frill.

I wanted to make a detailed sculpture that is also the easiest thing ever to drop into your slicer, so no supports are needed, and skip the tedious cleanup.

This is where I'm currently at with the Tyrannosaurus rex. Funny enough, he was actually the very first dinosaur I started sculpting for this project, but he ended up getting pushed to the sidelines while all the other little dinos demanded attention.

Coming back to him now with a lot more sculpting experience under my belt, I can definitely see a few areas I'd like to rework. He still needs his tiny arms (of course), some extra detail work on the legs, and a bit of overall refinement.

It's been fun revisiting one of the oldest models in the collection and seeing how much the project has evolved since those first sculpting sessions.

Like the rest of the herd, he'll eventually be joining my Dinosaur Chibi Collection, a personal project I've been slowly building for quite some time now. It's exciting to finally see the lineup starting to come together.

I'm ridiculously happy with how this little Ankylosaur is turning out. There's still plenty of work ahead, but the pose and personality are already starting to shine through.

One of the ideas I'm excited to explore is adding a few tiny prehistoric birds perched on his back while he happily chews on some fresh green leaves. I love the thought of turning him into a little snapshot of prehistoric life rather than just a standalone dinosaur.

Cera is slowly coming to life! His the silhouette is heading in the right direction, which is always one of the biggest hurdles with stylised characters.

There's still work to do on the legs, and I'm currently wrestling with ideas for the base, but I'm happy with how he's shaping up so far.

I am thrilled with how my Brachiosaurus is coming along and wanted to share some progress so far! 🦕 She is my very first sauropod sculpture, so I did a ton of research to make sure I got her right, though I'm sure i got somehthing wrong ^_^'! I'd love to hear from any dino enthusiasts if you spot anything I may have missed. Later this year I will be releasing her as part of my Dinosaur Chibi Collection, a personal passion project I have been quietly working on and planning for a very long time. This collection means a lot to me and I am so excited to finally be able to share it with you all here!

Another update on the Pachycephalosaurus sculpture 🦖

I’ve been working on creating my own custom scale brushes, and I’m finally at the stage where I can start testing them on these two.

I'm still figuring out if I’ve pushed it far enough though… does it feel dynamic enough? Or should I exaggerate it more?

I made so much progress on my little fat dinos this weekend and I had to share 🦖✨

Ankylosaurus is finally finished (well… almost, I still need to do the base and the birds), and I’m honestly so happy with how he turned out.

I also sculpted the Triceratops and I’m really excited about the direction he’s going in, I spent some extra time working on his face and it’s starting to come together in the cutest way.

It took me a second to calibrate the printer, and then I had to re-educate myself on how to slice the files again, that was fun. But he’s finally here and I love him.

He’s all cleaned up, sanded, and primed, and now I’m at a bit of a crossroads with the colour scheme.

My husband suggested a Chinese-inspired palette: red, black, and gold.

I was thinking something more jade-like, with blue, green, and gold.

In 2024, at the end of my university degree, I created my final major piece: The Crow’s Conformity.

This work was a real-world and digital exhibition sculpture, bringing together everything I had learned about 3D art up to that point. It became a culmination of my prior knowledge while also pushing me to experiment with new techniques and challenge myself creatively.

More than anything, I wanted the piece to carry emotional weight. It’s probably the most deeply considered work I had ever undertaken at that time.

During that period, I was feeling the effects of social media overload and the constant overstimulation that comes from spending too much time on a phone. That experience became the core message of the artwork.

The crow is tangled and constrained by glowing “social strings,” representing how easily our attention and thoughts can become ensnared by the digital world. It reflects the feeling of our minds being pulled, guided, and shaped by the systems around us.

At a broader level, the work touches on themes of consumerism and conformity. The cycle of obey, consume, reproduce. Inspired in part by the film They Live (1988).

This week I got to work on a cassowary 3D scan that needed some serious love.

The scan captured the overall shape of the bird, but the geometry was pretty rough, lots of noise, stretched areas, and messy or missing details. What started as a simple clean-up quickly turned into rebuilding parts of the anatomy, refining the silhouette, and re-sculpting the feather flow to bring the model back to life.

I always enjoy projects like this. It’s really cool knowing this model will be printed life-size, then molded and cast in fiberglass to be mass produced.

Honestly… wouldn’t this guy be cool to have in your backyard?

In between my bigger projects, I’ve been working on these little guys, a collection of chubby, semi-realistic dinosaurs.

I’m not really sure why, but I’ve always wanted something like this. Cute, chunky, but still grounded in real anatomy. So it’s been really fun finally bringing them to life.

There’s something so satisfying about sculpting the weight and softness into creatures that are usually shown as lean and scary.

My husband has requested a Pachycephalosaurus next… or maybe an Allosaurus 👀
