How am I supposed to make you not?❞ It may be slightly more snippy than he usually would address — his friend? ex-friend? ally? enemy? what exactly is the label for the type of relationship they have? — people, he settles on.

❝NO, you’re the furthest thing from worthless.❞ The words are not choked, not strained, like his usual tone of voice has become. They are passionate, they are certain, not a hint of doubt lingering within them, for where Mikumo has always been a doubtful person when it comes to himself & the world around him, there has never been a second he has thought of Katsuki as anything other than his other half, than the one person in his life that still means something & has always meant something & will always mean something.

& PERHAPS IT CAUGHT HIM OFF GUARD, or it was simply possible Mikumo never quite had any idea of how to respond to requests of affection without the deep red colour that bloomed upon his cheeks or a biting refusal as he turned away or looked down in order to hide his flustered expression. However, when it came to Katsuki, he couldn’t exactly do either of those without feeling some amount of guilt — logically, he is well aware he could, but there is something that stops him that he cannot name, cannot label.

❝I think it’s a question of why you’d want to,❞ he states & he tries not to let self-doubt creep into his voice, tries not to make it obvious that he doesn’t understand why Luna — someone who had seen the dark & ugly crevices of his soul, had been there through his worst & still stuck around for reasons unknown, who was good & kind & nothing that Mikumo was or deserved — had even thought of it enough to ask.

He cupped his cheeks gently and caressed them gently.  Zen understood where the doubt came from, since he  was in the same place years back.

BUT THERE IS SO MUCH WRONG, in the end, & he has never known when to start speaking or to hold his tongue. Perhaps there is nothing wrong with it. Perhaps life does not have to be more complex than gentle affection & friendships & learning how to live with the past; than studying & mending relationships & seeking knowledge he never had access to. Yet, the doubt still lingers & he wonders when it will dissipate.

& PERHAPS THAT WAS TRUE, but there’s a part of him that wants to cling the idea that it may never have happened with a presence in his life that was good, that perhaps all he might have needed was support— but a part of him knows Do-yoon is right, knows that there would always be a breaking point.

❝IT HASN’T BEEN THAT LONG... & a lot..❞ The statement holds no inflection, although it is more a performative protest than a geuine one. Even if touch hasn’t always been a comfort, Percy is somewhere on the list of people he doesn’t particularly mind receiving affection from, in the end. ❝I guess if it’s really that important to you, though, then alright.❞

He said, pressing a second kiss to the younger males temple before resting his chin on top of his head. The subtle warmth from Saeran was enough to wash any stress from his bones.

“ But I’m glad you’ve been alright. ”

& HOW SWEET THAT WAS, to be reminded of the place he had carved out in Zen’s life, not only the way the other bled into all aspects of his own.❝I’m not going to keel over and die from a little loneliness...” Albeit, it holds no actual bite, more a half-hearted protest— toward what, he isn’t sure himself.❝If I got too lonely, I’d text you or go visit Saeyoung. Don’t spend too much time worrying about me.❞ Focus on yourself.

❝Besides, I think.... not seeing the behind the scenes is better. It means you’re much more impressive when I get to see the finished product.❞ Not that he wasn’t always impressive to Saeran, but he was sure most of the excitement of watching the plays was the fact he didn’t quite know how it would end.

A sigh, followed up with a giggle. ─── ❝ You can’t rely on me forever, you know? ❞ She appreciated his honesty which caused a slight blush to paint her cheeks. ❝ Sometimes you have to follow your own heart. Where would we end up if you only followed mine? ❞

& PERHAPS THERE IS A POINT TO THAT. He knows, realistically, that following his dreams would lead to a happier life, but there is a part of him that doesn’t mind these days— simple moments of spending time with people he cares for, days where nothing matters but learning & friendship & happiness.

Do-Yoon would carefully listen to his words, memories  flashing back to their former talk before he had gone off before the police had come. Hearing that he was seeking help was something that made him relax. The former  idol didn’t know what he would do if he chose to stay ignorant to his own health concerns. Maybe then he wouldn’t have felt right about keeping silent of his retreat. 

He wondered if he had his own issues considering he  had looked past it all with out batting an eye. People  they knew had died and yet… Perhaps, he valued him  more than the others. That’s the only thing he could think of.

“ I’m glad… Do you have to go soon? Maybe we can catch up. ”

& WOULDN’T THAT BE WONDERFUL? A dream come true, a chance to be in his friend’s life once again — even without deserving it, even without working to atone for his sins. ❝I...❞ & there is the hesitation, the knowledge that this is a moment he should not be given, that he should not have ever experienced & yet, the overwhelming realisation that there is no possible way he could say no to Do-yoon, not know.
