Unfortunately, the fundraiser just ended on Sunday.

However! If you want to use art and writing to help RAICES, I recently found out about https://www.pencilsinthemargin.com/ which seems to be doing something very similar.

Pencils In The Margin is essentially a hub where artists, writers and crafters can post commission prices (similar to how we’ve done with this fundraiser) for charity organizations. You can specify which organizations you want to do commissions for, (RAICES is one of them, and there are a few other good ones I recognize. Though I’m unfamiliar with a lot of them and you are encouraged to do your own research on any organization you want to support!) Donors then show receipts from their donation and ask for a commission.

Pros:

You can do commissions for charity all year round, or for a limited period of time that you set.

The money is donated directly through each organization’s page, meaning you know it goes to the charity in question and Pencils In The Margins doesn’t take any of it at all.

You can do commissions for one organization or multiple ones.

Cons:

There is currently no hard limit on how many artists can be commissioned from each donation, meaning if five artists are doing $20 commissions for RAICES, someone could commission them all off one $20 donation.

Art:

$5 – A sketch of one character

$10 – A sketch of multiple characters and a simple background

$15 – Lineart and flats of one character, no background

$30 – Lineart and flats of up to five characters and a simple background

$45 – Detailed Illustration of one character + background. +$10 for each additional character.

Writing:

$1-$5 -  A drabble. No specific length, probably a couple of paragraphs.

$6-$10 - A short one-shot, about 500-1,000 words.

$11-$20 - A longer one-shot, around 2,000 words.

$21-$50 - A longer one-shot, about 3,000-5,000 words.

$51-$100 – A multi-chapter fic, two or three chapters long. Each chapter will likely be 2,000-3,000 words.

Limits on art: No full-on NSFW, nothing involving a ship that’s incestuous/pedophiliac. No hate symbols unless it’s in the context of a nazi getting punched or something.

I’ve done a decent amount of fanart for Gravity Falls, TAZ, Mob Psycho and D&D before, but I’ll draw anything from any fandom, original characters, other folks’ D&D parties, etc!

Won’t do: sexual content of any kind (explicit or implied), realistic spiders, character/ship bashing, real people ships, complicated background/machinery/props (trust me, you wouldn’t want me to)

In general, I prefer gen stuff to shippy stuff, but I can do both.

If you want to request something from a fandom I haven’t listed here, feel free to ask! However, if I’m not familiar with the source material, I probably won’t write for it because it would be much harder to get in character. For visual art, I’m much more open to content I’m unfamiliar with.

If you’d like to request something that doesn’t fall neatly into any of the categories I’ve listed here, I’m happy to discuss it with you.

If you’d like to donate more than a certain tier’s amount but would still prefer that or a previous tier (e.g. you donate $10 but want a traditional art single character bust), please let me know.

Base rates for line art of a single character:

These are applied to the total for lines + color, so a waist-up shot with basic shading and an additional character would be $45. Further additions are applied to the original total, so with a third character it would be $60, and with a background on top of that it would be $67.50

I can offer two line art styles - there’s no price difference:

In 2016, my friends and I put together a fundraiser on Crowdrise that raised 2,000 for the ACLU by getting fanartists, fic writers and fans together, and I’d like to see if we can do something like that again.

The artists, writers and crafters on the lists linked below are participating in this fundraiser. You can commission a charity piece from any of them by donating to this GoFundMe.

RAICES serves immigrants seeking citizenship, asylum-seekers and victims of crimes that might not otherwise report for fear of it affecting their immigration status. They provide free legal services to detainees in the Karnes Detention Center, and represent them in court. They have also been working with the Texas Civil Rights Project to identify the families being separated at the border through their Family Reunification Program.
