Richard Claremont - What Memory Kept (2026)

Louise Bourgeois - Toi et moi (2002), as presented at the exhibition The Way We Live Now in the George Economou Collection, Athens, Greece.

The Bourgeois' piece consists of the mirror but also two chairs - the idea was that the mirror would give back not an accurate but instead distorted images of the Other. At least it was the idea of the artist - I don't think the curators allow people to use these chars.

Bourgeois coined the idea of this installation already in the 1980s but it was completed only in 2002 - when she was 90 (!). It's one of her last works with large mirrors, to my knowledge.

Got this postcard from Germany this morning - it's an early work of Paula Modersohn-Becker usually called Stillleben mit Hyazinthe im Glas und Zuckerdose {Still life with hyacinth in a glass vase and sugar bowl} (c. 1904)

und Spiegel, I should add; oil on paperboard, ~ 35x50 cm.

There are not good reproductions of this work available online, all those that I found are actually scans from the artbooks - perhaps from this very postcard:

Bruno Braquehais - Nude Before a Mirror (c.1857)

Himself trained as a lithographer, Braquehais began to make what became known as académies when he got into photography. Often explicitly erotic (and at times bordering with pornography), these photos were officially presented as preparatory studies for others artworks (and other artists).

One of the most iconic session of the photographer for Vogue; the other versions from this shooting are much less known (perhaps rightly so):
