my favorite trope isn’t really “forbidden love.” it’s “strongly disapproved of love.” no one can stop the two characters from being together; it’s not illegal, but, boy howdy, nobody likes it very much.

This is the sort of shit that all public artwork should be. The kind that you can use as a landmark to find your lost buddies. Going like "yeah I'm standing at the front of this building. Under the giant fucking seagull head. You'll know it when you see it."

its so exciting when a piece of writing is scary or challenging or hard to sit with because like, beyond the fact that i just like that kind of thing, it means that the author trusts me with what theyre doing that they dont feel the need to soften or dumb it down for me. and all i have to do to be deserving of that trust is meet the contents of their art head on without flinching. it feels awesome. highly recommend.

I thought at the time and still maintain that Victor's actions make perfect sense if you take the premise that he's just coming off an extended major depressive episode. this is EXACTLY the kind of behavior you would expect to see from someone who has categorically realized "I can't live like this any more" and has just been presented with an alternative that doesn't involve suicide
