I finally finished crocheting a shawl I have been making since April. I love the result and I am thinking about using this pattern again to crochet a merino/acrylic shawl. But hey, at least I got some awesome setting* for my pics!
The pattern is Tiliana by Kaleo Handmade (Martika Grabowska), it's on Ravelry.
I used 1650m of 100% cotton yarn. The final result is 85/190cm without blocking. I have not washed it yet, the shawl keeps the shape even without washing and blocking.
*no sunflower was harmed during the taking of these pics, I was careful not to step on any or break any leaves.
Can we please go back to the times when a story had a good old villain? Smart, evil and threatening? I'm kinda bored of Not Villains.
I watched the new Spiderman movie. I didn't die of cringe like I did on the last Thor movie, which is an improvement, but it was also a movie I will most likely never watch again. It was lengthy at times and the change going on the main character did not hit me on emotional level, it was more like me seeing the mechanisms and the intentions of the script writers. I really enjoyed the previous Spiderman movie. This one? I'm glad the cinema tickets we bought were on some discount.
On plus side, it was nice to see Zendaya actually act and perform more than her usual scowl. I don't mind teh actress, I'm not exactly fond of her MJ and that did not change, I still don't give a shit, but it was positive to see her acting range being a bit wider.
All in all, I,didn't want to leave the theatre after the first half an hour, but at times I wished I could be doing something in the meantime instead of sitting in the cinema. I probsbly won't watch it again.
we have to thank our brave soldiers in fandom who write gen fics. we have to thank our brave soldiers in fandom who write character studies and stories with no focus on romance or sex. we have to get on our knees and thank the brave soldiers in fandom who write about minor characters and friendship and family with no focus on romance or sex. i know itβs hard to care about characters in a world that seems to only revolve around ships but i see you. and i love you
Oh god, I'm done for now. I will get more decent pics soon, I hope, I will certainly hold mu friend to the promise of going together to a park for fun (part of said fun being travelling in this dress in public transport in the capital city xd).
I had to finish the sleeves again, because the first time it looked absolutely awful:
Now it's good:
I will think about possibly correcting the front of the outer skirt, but I don't have the time nor the energy for it now.
Buuuut. You know what's better than pocketses in a dress or a skirt? TWO sets of pocketses!
I'm not wearing the corset here, because I only put on the dress to check how the sleeves looked.

Yeah, Tolk Folk is definitely coming.
I'm aaaaaalmost there with Idril dress. And buahaha, I found some shitty China ears I forgot I bought π
The neckline of the main dress is not finished yet, I hate doing that part, so I made the outer skirt instead.
Idril Celebrindal with a feanorian star pendant.
I think Turgon might have a fit.
My 8-pointed star pendant arrived. Not sure Feanaro approves of a silver, gold plated pendant from a mass-profuction jewellery chain shop, but oh well. At least it's not blue xd.
Can we go back to times when clothes were made to flatter and highlight the best of your body, not to hide it completely? I don't want to wear shapeless potato sacks that make me look like I'm two sizes fatter than I am, dammit. I don't want shirts sewn out of rectangles. An average woman needs more space at the front for her boobs than she needs on her back for her non-existent wings... I feel and look fat in a freaking XS size, because of the way a shirt is made. And it seems shops don't really offer alternatives, from what I gathered. In the past two weeks, I ordered five pairs of trousers, three dresses, three shirts and a skirt. I tried on two more pairs and six more dresses. I managed to buy one pair of trousers and they still need a belt to fit, but it was the closest to what I wanted to buy, so I gave up.
I don't say "I love you". I make a woolen cloak because my brother asked me for one. And since I'm going to send it home, I also made The Snack for dad and gran.
The cloak is made of dark blue wool. I only had 2,6m, so it's a bit shorter at the front, but I still managed to cut half-circle cloak and make the hood from the scraps. I used some linen/viscose fabric for the lining in the hood. There will be either a brooch or a decorative clasp, but in case it's the latter,I want my brother to sew it on at his preferable height, since he's taller than me and probably has wider shoulders despite still looking like a dangly teenager.

a lot of writing is sort of watching the film in your head like oh sorry canβt write the chapter yet i have to repeat hallucinate the dialogue first
Sleeves almost done, this Idril cosplay is getting somewhere.
I will need to make a tiny break from this dress to make my brother a cloak like I promised.
Itβs always my favorite character
the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
I was showing my friend some old jewellery I made and I found a necklsce that could be a part of Eowyn cosplay. Yes, I know it's silver instead of gold, but gold-coloured wire was awful to work with. And I like silver.

Idril in the making... I cut one sleeve, had to change the initial idea, because it didn't flow.
I was digging through ribbons and laces and I found a velvet ribbon that could cover the seam at the elbow.
And I found a wide jacquard ribbon I bought before the pandemic. It was supposed to be a part of my Noldo cosplay, but I never used it. I'm thinking about using it as a belt for the outer skirt. I guess I will let this idea sit for a day or two, since I probsbly won't be doing much sewing before the weekend.
So far the idea of the whole dress is more or less like in the pics below. This time without a corset, because I was testing the possibility of using that jacquard ribbon. I want to be able to use this dress with or without the corset.
The main fabric for my Eowyn dress arrived yesterday. At first I was disappointed, because you can see through the fabric, but after some brainstorming with my friend we figured out how to save it.
I'm going to use two layers. I considered buying a typical lining fabric, but this one works well when folded in two, so I just ordered a bit more to double the skirt. I looked at some wool blend as well, but it was the thin kind that would be used for making suits, so there was a risk you could see through that too and that it too would need a lining... And obviously it was more expensive than this cotton/viscose fabric. It might not have the heavy look, but two layers should do the trick and I am not a fan of the concept of spending hours and hours of work and using some shitty polyester fabric. I don't want to die of heat.
The fabric goes well with the jacquard I have for inner layer of the sleeves. The jacquard is cotton/metallic as well, not pure polyester.
We also talked yesterday about cutting bits of this jacquard to make the neckline decoration.
