#such a petty opinion of mine but#one thing i truly don't understand is why there's such a hugbox regarding writing fanfic#particularly when people don't get replies to their work or are straight up making poor craft decisions#there's such a desire to coddle the ego of the writer and go 'no your work is amazing you're doing nothing wrong'#as if there's no discernible difference between their work and someone else's#but we don't see this in art? like if a drawing or piece of art is clearly amateurish no one goes#omg it's perfect and beautiful you just need to find your audience#and if you even offer specific craft thoughts or guidelines it's like NO DO WHATEVER YOU WANT WRITE WHATEVER YOU WANT#like okay you can but don't be surprised if it's poorly done and people don't like it?#and to be clear that is NOT to say it should not exist it ABSOLUTELY should and people should write and share WHATEVER they want WHENEVER#I am fully supportive of 'bad' or 'unskilled' or 'amateurish' art in any form. it is INCREDIBLY important#it's just also VERY weird when you have a piece of writing that is like. very clearly in that category and could be objectively improved#and people just pretend like no writing in fandom can ever be bad lol#that being said I am NOT pro-offering critique or criticism where it isn't asked for#keep it between you and your groupchat. let ppl grow unless they ask explicitly#anyway...
