So, I said I was thinking about making this in Subnautica 1... However... I'm watching Mark's gameplay of Subnautica 2 (part 9 specifically), and there's an audio log of someone saying "I can hear the tree. It wants me to go into the sea and... feed myself to it." Obviously, I couldn't help but think about Simon, right? Please tell me it's not just me.
Another thing. I have multiple ideas for this, what wont change is that the ship is going to be the movie one, for plot purposes (list under the break if you want to read it).
Idea 1: Rocky and Grace save Simon after going fishing. Rocky leaves. The taumoeba leak never happens. On the way back to Earth, after sending the beetles ahead, they crash into Planet Proteus (someway, somehow). Result: Rocky is not there. Grace and Simon get the chance to get to know each other a bit before chaos.
Idea 2: Rocky and Grace save Simon after going fishing. Then, either before Rocky leaves or after the taumoeba leak and them saving Rocky, they crash into Planet Proteus (someway, somehow). Result: Rocky is there. But also Grace and Simon get the chance to get to know each other a bit before chaos with some privacy.
Idea 3: Rocky and Grace save Simon before going fishing. While fishing they crash and then they get to Planet Proteus (someway, somehow). Result: More trauma, more angst, more confusion. Rocky is with them, but they barely know Simon.
Idea 4: Simon crashes on Erid. Adrian and Simon get to know each other. There's an expedition sent out to try and find Rocky. Simon, wanting to do something and to help, goes with Adrian (only them two cause it's a small expedition). The find the Hail Mary barely a month in. All four get in the Hail Mary (because it has all the data and things). Simon gives Grace food, which helps with the starvation. The four get to know each other while on the way back to Erid. Midway, they crash into Planet Proteus (someway, somehow). Result: Adrian and Rocky are both with them. Simon is a bit more "healed" from what happened in AT-5. They get to know each other a bit before chaos. There's more fic on the "before the scary ocean" part.
Note: In every idea in which Rocky ends up in Proteus, eridians can breathe and live in earth's atmosphere and can tone down their temperature, which would then become a survival mechanism.
Something that won't change no matter the idea is the fact that Simon will be part fish. This will include: gills, regenerated but mutated arm, depth pressure tolerance, and echolocation (he does not, however, have multiple vocal chords, so he can't speak eridian... not properly, at least, he does have perfect pitch and an inhuman vocal range)
So. I request and appreciate assistance in deciding, since I want people to enjoy what I write, so... Help?

Been thinking about different AUs I could do in the BloodyMary fandom and Subnautica came to mind (totally not because I’m binge watching Mark’s Subnautica playlist cause of the new 2 coming out). So… how would we feel about a Subnautica x Iron Lung x Project Hail Mary AU??
If Simon can get to the PHM universe, what’s to say they wouldn’t get to the Subnautica universe too??
Imagine Simon gets to the Hail Mary before Ryland and Rocky go fishing, and then they almost crash in Adrian but they go through a wormhole, or maybe Planet 4546B (from the first Subnautica game) is actually Adrian (idk)?? And they crash near the Aurora, only difference is that no one’s alive and now they gotta survive there. Deep underwater. Imagine Simon’s panic attacks when they realize they’re surrounded by the ocean.
I would need to think about it, but, thoughts? Ideas? Is that something people would like to read about?
I will make something for this idea, maybe here, maybe I’ll write or draw something, but I’m in exam season right now so i don’t have time 😠I still wanted to yapp about it though!
