Just when things seemed to have calmed down again, at least until they made a break in Matthew’s case, a fellow cop was killed. Most of the cops Zarah works with are good people who care about the work they’re doing, but when one that truly seemed to have poured his heart and soul into finding the missing kid turned up dead, the loss weighed heavy on the woman. Between old feelings about Jamad resurfacing and this newest blow, she felt the foundation beneath her crumbling. Staying strong, putting on a brave face wasn’t always so easy. That didn’t matter, however, as she wiped furiously at the tears spilling over onto her cheeks. Hopefully the person approaching her desk hadn’t noticed, and even if they did, it would do them well not to point it out. Clearing her throat, she glanced up at them as they came to a stop a few feet in front of her. “How may I help you?”
To Archibald, watching the different reactions of the townsfolk in the wake of the officer’s death was intriguing, amusing even. It told him a lot about the kind of people he was working against. Would they like further into the discoveries and findings Officer Vargo had penned down. He, himself needed to assure that didn’t happen. That was exactly what landed Archibald at the station, a plan set in his mind, only to have it altered the second eyes landed on Zarah in her obvious state of sorrow.
“ Looks to me as though it should be me asking you that, I can’t imagine how difficult the past couple of days have been. So, the last thing I want to do is add more onto your plate, so please, if you need to take a moment, I completely understand, unfortunately.” Being an ex-Navy Seal, there was a definite truth in his words, but his time served had turned him into a cold-hearted man. He, however chose to hide that often while around in Hawkins.
