sitting across sukyung, ara is mentally ready for this moment. she's been practicing her heart out and prepping with the project novus girls continuously, spending all of their free time awake and asleep together in or out of the dorms- ara's been practically waiting for this all her teen-age life.
"why did you and your partner choose this song?" ara considers this for a moment before responding. "we went through various songs, but chose 'dreams come true' because we liked the beat, and rhythm, and also liked the vocal range. there was a good balance between the performance, but the song also provided us with opportunities to show off our vocals, and i think that dance and vocals are our strengths." ara nods. "and i liked the lyrics too. that chorus is top notch!"
"why did you and your partner focus on a particular skill?" when the brief had came out, ara knew she was a better dancer and choreographer than a singer, but she could use that to their strength in general. the song they chose had been a good balance of that too. "eunae and i focused more on vocals in this case, so the vocals and line distribution had the stronger focus for us but that doesn't mean that the dancing necessarily had no attention to it. that meant that we tailored our choreography to a duo, and ensured that we were able to keep our stamina up and focus on our lines and delivery, while still doing a lovely, customized dance that wasn't distracting. eunae and i have different durations of being a trainee, but we are both comfortable with our singing and wanted that to be the point."
"how was working with your partner?" ara nods, "eunae and i work well together. i guess we will know when she also says her half, but we've worked together for some time. we also knew each other briefly before i joined next gen and joined sr media, so it was a coincidence that we ended up in the same company in the end of it all. i truly think it was a privilege that i ended up being paired with her. i hope she feels the same. we had come together with the idea of doing an angel/devil type concept, so you were able to see that in our outfits. the idea that we balance each other out, the devil on your shoulder, the angel on your shoulder. but also, that we balanced each other out in terms of what we had to bring to the table."
sukyung leads into the next question that relates. "do you think you would be able to work with eunae on a long-term scale?" ara looks up in thought before answering sukyung. "i do feel yes. before, i always looked up to the trainees who were at the company for a longer period than me. but during my time here, i've managed to change my mentality to be less of a follower and followed, but be able to work together with a cohesive and cooperative method, not just me listening to everything and agreeing with eunae on everything, but also giving feedback. we were able to give each other ideas back and forth up until the end."
"do you believe you’re inferior, equal, or superior to your partner in terms of skill?" this really gives ara a pause, gulping a little and thinking. she doesn't want to be the one to psych herself out. but she also knows eunae has many years on top of her, but also that their skillsets were individual. ara was interested in dancing and choreography. eunae was heavily focused on vocals. "i believe that we are equal in some ways, but i am not going to say i'm at the bottom of the barrel either. i put in equal parts into this collaboration. i am superior in choreography and dance, but eunae was superior in terms of vocal ability. we were able to see-saw and provided this performance that i am proud of."
