proship literally just means anti-harassment. it means to stay in your lane on the internet. it encourages anti-censorship, and instead of immediately banning all somewhat taboo content, it demands proper tags instead. essentially: ‘don’t like? don’t read.’ also, can I add that as a proshipper you can hate darkships, (which is the word you’re ACTUALLY looking for when describing darker areas of shipping) and that you can be against it, as long as you don’t bother darkshippers and make sure they’re tagging their works correctly.

actually, proship was common until antis came about and began demanding censorship. this is why ao3 exists. ao3 is LITERALLY profiction (which is basically the same thing as proship, but fiction as a whole)

and before you argue, ‘but fiction affects reality!!!’ yes, it CAN. if you’re not mature or old enough to be on the internet. hence the need for tagging.

yes, fiction does affect reality — quite a lot, actually — but when it comes to things like taboo content, the only time that becomes a problem is when you can’t separate what’s right and wrong in said taboo content.

‘but.. what about using darkshipping as a coping mechanism????!!!’ did you know that REAL, LICENSED therapists sometimes recommend dark writing as a way to express your feelings?? why??? because fiction is a GOOD and RESPONSIBLE way to express feelings or likes if done correctly, like i stated before.

‘what if it becomes unhealthy?!’ ANY coping mechanism can be unhealthy btw. not just darkshipping.

It is inaccessible via streaming in that specific region. We still have it. It exists. On DVDs. On Blu rays. In digital libraries. In archives. On streaming in other countries. In the hands of thousands of people who own physical copies. Nothing about that is lost.

This is especially baffling coming from the Doctor Who fandom, a fandom that contains one of the most well known and well documented cases of actual lost media. There are episodes of Doctor Who that genuinely do not survive. No master tapes. No home recordings. No official copies. Entire stories that exist only as audio, telesnaps, or reconstruction efforts because the video is gone.

That is what lost media means.

Calling New Who lost media because it is not currently available on a streaming service in your country muddies that distinction and makes the term meaningless. It erases the reality of material that is truly gone and cannot be recovered in full.

There is a real conversation to be had about accessibility, regional licensing, and the increasing fragility of streaming based media access. But that is a different conversation. Inconvenient to access is not the same thing as lost.
