Apparently I Can Art

So. Hi. I feel like I say it every time but I do live.

The good, since I didn't really address it much: I got a new computer! Like, 3 months ago? The old one was just giving out on me so I finally retired it. This one is generally higher end and can actually screen record! I've vaguely alluded to it in tags, but I want to try streaming at some point. Haven't yet due to a few different things getting in the way.

Such as: I got a new job! It's been. An experience. I'm only a few weeks in but it's fine so far, it just takes a lot of my time and energy and has thus cut into art things.

As for the not great things: I seem to be doomed to pen issues. It fought me the entire time I drew this. A new computer hasn't fixed it, changing batteries hasn't fixed it, a different pen, updating drivers, you get the idea. I can work around it, it just makes digital art a bit annoying (here's hoping it'll get me to traditional art more).

Finally, as I mentioned on my main a while back, this new computer managed to wipe it's own hard drive after 2 months of having it. The computer has been fixed, obviously, but I hadn't backed up any of the new files on it and thus lost a good few, including alternate versions of the last two pieces I posted and a pngtuber I had prepared for streaming purposes. Thankfully, I had shared some images with friends, so while I don't have the layered versions I at least have something.

But uhhh. Yeah, that's your update. Longer than I meant, woops.

As for near future, I'm not doing a daily challenge for October on account of job, but a friend mentioned I could try a weekly one and I'm probably (hopefully) gonna do that.

Bo Crocus (he/him) is the first mate and quartermaster on the Scabbard, a pirate ship in everything but general hostility. The crew goes around stealing magic artifacts that are left on display and giving them to people who will actually put them to use.

Character Notes: - Bo is a plant sorcerer, a fact that is unrelated to his interest in flowers and his naming himself after one (he developed that interest before realizing he had magic). - He's also the crew's cook, mostly because he doesn't trust anyone else to make food. - He's a very emotional person, being a bit hotheaded and blunt but also caring and often protective of those he cares most about or sees as less capable of defending themselves.

Kip (they/them) is a mystery in all regards. All anyone else knows about them is that they just appeared one day in the most violent way possible: as the source of the fire that would destroy the town of Cley. Kip, however, only remembers waking up after the fact and being ostracized for what they apparently did.

Character Notes: - The loneliness of being pretty much left out of (what remains of this world's) society bothers them more than they'll admit. - Their mask is pretty much the only thing they've had since they first appeared. They take better care of it than anything else they own. - Despite their violent reputation, they tend to act pretty chill unless really stressed. So chill, in fact, that they don't tend to take real threats all that seriously.

Apollo Zatani (he/him) is an elemental, someone who was saved from death and blessed with exceptionally strong magic related to what would have killed him. Most elementals go on to use their new power to help others, Apollo included, but to say he only does it out of kindness wouldn't be entirely accurate.

Character Notes: - Apollo is known as a space (or void) elemental. His main use of his magic is teleportation, though he could hypothetically also use it to temporarily distort space to a degree. - He can also create minor constructs (such as in the image second from the right), but this requires complete focus on the object for as long as it is used, or else it disappears. - Personality-wise, there's not much to say initially on account of Apollo pretty much basing his life around being an elemental. He got it in his head that he's only really still alive to help others, so he doesn't let himself have much of a life beyond that (he'll get over it eventually).

Envy (she/they) is the first protagonist of one of my oldest story projects, HayWire (and one of my oldest characters). At the beginning, she's an amnesiac with a hero-complex who's trying to figure out how they got here while also getting caught up in everything else in town. She ends up working as an adventurer/explorer thing that I am not fully explaining here because it'd take too long and this is a character post.

Character Notes: - She has both electricity and light magic (though I keep forgetting the light magic). They didn't initially remember either when they first came too, but electricity was remembered first. - They are incredibly stubborn (which is how Volt ended up with an actual teammate) and stupidly brave, to the point that she can be pretty reckless. - Aside from the amnesia, they actually have a pretty good memory, which frankly just makes her more confused as to what happened.
