I met my breeder and now friend, Shelly when I was searching and researching corgi breeders for our very first corgi and puppy. I felt like I was interviewing for a nanny. I did so much reading I knew all the questions to ask and what answers to expect from a good breeder. After emailing about 10-15 different breeders, I was disappointed that these breeders did not ask me questions, did not inquire about what kind of person I was and how I was planning on caring for their puppy.

I finally found Shelly and she immediately interviewed me and hammered me with questions. I was excited cause I knew I found the perfect breeder but nervous because thought maybe since we’re first time puppy and corgi owners, we might not make the cut.

Long story short, everything worked out perfectly. Tang and I met Shelly, Larry and Jane and we all clicked immediately. She’s so straight forward, honest and fun to be around. It’s refreshing. The visited Pi Pi weeks after weeks until finally it was time for him to come home!!! He was so loved before he even came home with us. Shelly loves all her puppies and takes such great care of them in their vulnerable first few weeks of life.

As most of you know, we lost Pi a day before he turned 6 months. From the time before Pi was born, to the time we lost him, Shelly has become a good friend and I could always count on her advice when I had any worries that any first time dog/corgi owner would have. The day we lost Pi, I immediately called Shelly as soon as I was calm enough to. I had no idea what I was going to do, I was heart broken, lost and confused. Shelly immediately offered for us to bring Pi to her house and bury him in her yard next to her own pets that have passed. I was so grateful that he would be somewhere we can always visit. We arrive 40 minutes later, the worst car ride. With my poor baby, stiff and cold, wrapped in a blanket on my lap. When we get out of the car, Larry had already shoveled a spot for Pi. We lay him in along with his favorite yellow stuffed ducky. What a horrible heart breaking day that is so clear yet so blurry as I think back.

Last weekend, Shelly told me that she has planted a campher tree in memory of Pi and her own two dogs. Such a sweet loving gesture that I appreciate more than she’ll ever know. I’ll forever be grateful for our friendship, her inspiration, and her breeding only the very best puppies!

Lately I’ve had many thoughts of Pi, specifically of that horrific day. But I find myself cheering up after I think about all the love and support Tang and I had that day, and week, and months after. Pi was not around long enough (at all) but he honestly touched so many and brought me so many friendships that will always be special to me. As Shelly has told me, it was gods plans for him. He changed our lives in such a short time period. My guardian angel.
