It also seems like Birdperson doesn’t have any close biological family based on the small number of other birdpeople at his wedding, and it seems likely that most if not all of them are dead based on his memories of being rounded up by Gromflomites as a child and the zombie-like birdpeople Rick finds in his memory of Blood Ridge. Maybe Birdperson thinks that Morty should stay with Rick due to their familial ties?
