Okay okay so this headcannon takes place where all of the indigenous nations have their own personifications (which they would in hetalia because Quebec exists and is in the manga, so its definitely not a stretch to think that they would be too.)
So canada is born when the vikings found NFN in 1000ad, where canada is born from the small settlement(half indigenous half norse/viking), the vikings leave, thinking that Matthew will just die, but that's not the case. He lives for the time until the british show up in 1608 (I think) and Britain finds this small child who dosent really look like the rest (brown hair but with blue eyes) and takes him in our of intrest. And as he "grows up" (gets colonized), he slowly takes the appearance of his adoptive dad. This confuses him, and England has to tell him that a nation's biological make up is more based on perception then it is who was there first (outward and inward perception), so as the world begins to see canada as a British and predominantly white colony, and as Canadians form the Canadian identity, Matthew changes biologically to match. He comes to the realization that him and his thoughts, ideas, appearance, relationships, and life are all controlled by the forces of millions of people changing the trajectory of a nation and that he isn't really himself. This send him into a spiral where he's constantly clinging to England and finding solace and closure in the violence he takes out because of him (1812, and other wars) because he's seeking approval and a sense of real familial ties that are in a fucked up way, his own.
