A peace came over Charlie when he saw Aoife smile, his hands still cupping her damp face gently. âIâd love to go to Ireland with you so you can show me off,â he chuckled, already flattered beyond belief to be something that any woman as amazing as Aoife wanted to brag about. âYou really know all the right things to say to make me blush, donât you?â While any compliment was welcome, being told that he was an amazing dad was the best thing Charlie could ever hear. His own family was critical of his choices from the moment Emma was conceived, which always tested Charlieâs confidence. âShe does. Sheâs asked if sheâll ever have a brother or sister one day. Iâve always kind of figured her mom would give her one before I would. I didnât realize I would end up having you.â
Closing her eyes she let out a gentle sigh, everything felt so much better with him beside her. âMy ma would eat you up,â she chuckled. âAnd my brothers, well theyâd have you out on a rugby pitch in no time.â She tried to imagine Charlie interacting with her family, sitting at the old dinner table sheâd grown up having her meals at, or walking down the streets she played in as a child. âI do love making you blush,â Aoife grinned, and reached up to pinch his cheek. âBut itâs true. Emma is an amazing little girl and you get to take credit for that.â Still propped on her elbow she studied his face, admiring the shadows and lines she could make out. âI never want to rush things with us, but I love the idea of making her a big sister.â
