what doesn’t kill me leaves a pit in my stomach that never goes away
I remember when I was younger, anytime I watched a movie where the characters have to kill a scary monster/alien, I always thought the act of killing it was intended to be part of the horror. Like there’s this amazing creature that we’ve never seen before, and maybe under different circumstances we could’ve coexisted with it, but it’s trying to attack you and you have to defend yourself, but by destroying it you also destroy the ability to ever understand it and that’s sad and is supposed to make you feel conflicted.
It was not until well into my adulthood that I realized most people do not have complicated feelings about movies where people have to kill a scary alien monster, nor is that necessarily meant to be part of the narrative (unless it very obviously is). They just want the scary thing to die because it’s scary. I don’t have a real conclusion to this I just started thinking about it for some reason.
For everyone who ‘used to love reading’ but now hasn’t finished a book in years, you CAN get it back. Genuinely start bringing a book (preferably short and either fiction or a non fiction topic you already really enjoy) everywhere you go and when you have 5-20 mins waiting for the bus or at the doctors office or mechanic or whatever, get out your book and read it! You don’t have to finish it quickly or even read it often but it is so good for your brain and fun to get into the habit of reading more (and replacing being on your phone for those moments). Source: I read 0 books in 2023 and I’ve read 12 in the first 4 months of 2026
Kalakocetus aurorae was an early cetacean that lived during the Eocene, about 50-48 million years ago, in what is now the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent.
It represents the (currently) most basal known branch of the whale lineage, with teeth that are transitional between the crushing herbivorous-omnivorous molars of the closely-related raoellids and the shearing carnivorous molars of later archaeocetes.
Only known from a lower jaw and teeth, its full life appearance is unknown — but based on the body proportions of other early cetaceans it would have been a roughly cat-sized animal, around 60cm long (~2'), possibly resembling a smaller version of its better-known relative Pakicetus. It was also probably similarly semiaquatic, wading into rivers to hunt fish and other small freshwater prey.

Told a girl about Aoteaora and she said "no one there calls it that"
...uh, I'm pretty sure people do 😭
HELLO???? yesterday I saw someone call it new zealand and it genuinely took me by surprise since I hadn't seen anyone from here call it that for MONTHS. my immediate and extended family calls it aotearoa. my friends call it aotearoa. my uni lecturers do too. it's in a ton of the research reports and studies I have to look into every week. when I write essays pertaining to the ecology here I exclusively call it aotearoa in my writing. it's on buses and adverts. you hear it on the radio. what on earth is she talking about
steam repeatedly notifying you that a friend is booting up a game thats clearly not cooperating feels like ur sitting inside and someone outside keeps trying to rev up a lawnmower
i think everybody's glossing over the funniest part of the pjackk story. he hadn't even posted since like 2024. i'm not saying it's funny that you're all upset about an inactive blog getting deactivated that's fine. but his final posts were about finding jesus
"theyll hate you for this" "but theyll be alive" is THE juiciest thing to me
i will ensure you stay alive above all else. even if what i do to make it happen is horrendous. even if it violates all your wishes or moral principles. even if you can never look at me the same way again, even if you hate me for it. because at least if you hate me it means youre alive

Despite it all I can't hate solarpunk. It's caramel-apple sweet-simplistic, a desire for a greater world on one simple axis without grappling with any kind of political reality. You can chip at its ankles but unfortunately it will still be kind of awesome epicsauce at its heart. Sometimes you really do need to just cut past all the hard-nosed realism, get back to the kid looking up at you with those big blubbering eyes saying "what if everyone was nice to eachother?" That kid does not know an ant's arse about the real world or how it works, but they're still 1000 times more correct than all of us trying to explain why it can't be done. You can't lose sight of the stupid, hopeless dream. You can't lose sight of it. Otherwise you turn into a dickhead.

i had a good 2024 and i dont remember
neutral/mixed 2024 and remember
neutral/mixed 2024 and dont remember
bad 2024 and i remember
bad 2024 and i dont remember
i remember so little that i dont know how 2024 was
*determine how much or how little counts as Remembering by whatever feels right. you do not need to remember every waking second of the year or have it completely wiped from your mind to say you do or dont remember respectively
i feel like i know a lot of people who had just a horrible 2024 and/or they dont remember the year at all so i have to see the stats on this
The best way to write is to make sure that the solutions to your character's problems in fact engender new, worse problems
