personally i disagree, hal’s ENTIRE life is a mess, especially up till getting the ring. he’s a very irrational person that has a tendency of exhausting and disappointing everyone around. halbarry isnt sugary sweet. halbarry is finally a relationship in which hal gets accepted as he is and isnt changed by the other person. every other ship ive seen for hal usually HEAVILY involves the other person being like ‘i gotta fix this sad little man, i need to make him behave like a responsible adult’ 

meanwhile barry accepts hal as he is but also doesnt let him walk over him. he will protest when hal does something stupid, but at the same time, he accepts who he is? he loves hal as he is, he doesn’t think he’s a burden to bear etc. there’s a lot of mutual respect going on and barry would never shit on hal or tell other people abt how exasperating hal is. 

barry is the kind of person who doesn’t want hal to change

but hal changes anyways because he wants to be good enough for barry

but he does that out of his own volition, precisely because barry is so good and understanding

so theres a difference

Who accidentally pushes a door instead of pulling/vice versa: hal

Who doodles little hearts all over the desk with their initials inside them: barry

Who starts the tickle fights: omg….barry

Who starts the pillow fights: hal

Who falls asleep last, watching the other with a small affectionate smile: FUCK OMG hal

Who mistakes salt for sugar: …hal… i’m sensing a pattern hal is a mess?

Who lets the microwave play the loud beeping sound at 1am in the morning: barry it was an ACCIDENT

Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines: hal. they’re SO BAD (but barry partakes too)

Who rearranges the bookshelf in alphabetical order: barry

Who licks the spoon when they’re baking brownies: they both do but barry usually gets to it first

Who buys candles for dinners even though there’s no special occasion: barry

Who draws little tattoos on the other with a pen: hal

Who comes home with a new souvenir magnet every time they go on vacation: THIS IS HARD uh barry

Who convinces the other to fill out those couple surveys in the back of magazines: barry!
