Beyond the boundary Ch. 1
One piece various x Pokemon Trainer reader
Summary: A blinding light, A crater. Then a PokĂŠmon older than time. And suddenly, youâre not in Kalos anymore. With only your PokĂŠmon for company, youâve been dragged into a world of pirates, chaos, and danger⌠and somehow, itâs your job to teach them about PokĂŠmon. Great. Just great.
Author's Note: Hello! Thank you for reading the prolouge and here is chapter one. I hope you enjoy.
The ground beneath you was rough and strangely warmer than the dirt back home. The sunlight hit differently here, sharper, heavier somehow, and the sound of waves came in slow, steady rhythms behind you.
The ocean stretched out farther than you could see. No land. No ships. Just miles and miles of open water, glittering under the sun like it went on forever. The salty air clung to your skin, thick and real, and for a second, it hit you all at once
You werenât anywhere near home.Â
ââŚOkay,â you said quietly, pushing yourself to your feet. âAlright. Donât panic.â Looking around, you see the massive trees behind you and hear distant noises. That's when you realise that you arenât alone on this Island.
Rockruff was already awake.
He stood a few steps ahead of you, paws planted firmly in the sand, ears perked, tail wagging like this was the best day of his life. When you moved, he turned, trotting back toward you with an excited bark.
At least one of you was handling this well. However, you must at least try to stay calm. The Godâs(?) mission can take a step back for now 1st priority is to get off this Island or at least find shelter.
You crouched slightly, running a hand over his fur. âYeah. Youâre fine. Of course you are.â
He leaned into your touch without hesitation.
âWell, buddy, because of your great persuasion skills, we are stuck in the middle of nowhere, so let's at least explore,â you say to Rockruff. He yips in agreement and wags his tail, nudging your arm again.
You straightened your back and let out a huge sigh, and turned towards the tree line and started walking, Rockruff trailing behind you.
As you got closer, all you could see were towering trunks stretched high into the sky, so tall you couldnât even see where the canopy ended. Thick vines hung between them like ropes, some as wide as your arm.
Just barely visible through the haze were two enormous shapes.
They looked likeâŚstructures? No. Not buildings. Too uneven. Too natural. But they were huge. Rising above everything else like giants standing still.
ââŚAre those volcanoes?â
Thin streams of smoke curled into the sky. This makes you stare at them for a long moment, then look back down at your scuffed shoes and sigh. âI should have just said no to the stupid other worldly being, but no, I- ME of all people need to be picked as âThe chosen Oneâ â You said while looking back up to the sky in disappointment.
âWoof!â you hear before a pinch of pain suddenly snaps you into focus again.
âOUCH!â you say, jumping away from Rockruff, who just nipped your ankle. âDude, stop that-â you say, pointing your finger at him, while he looks at you with a deadpanned face that says âStop freaking out, we made our choice now let's go!â You take a breath and lead him farther into the forest.
The farther you went, the warmer it got. The sounds of the ocean faded, replaced by something deeperâlow rumbles, distant calls, the rustling of things that were far too large to be small animals.
These were the sounds you heard earlier, the only reason you could differentiate them is that they sounded like PokĂŠmon cries, but⌠These arenât PokĂŠmon.
You pushed a vine out of your face, then another. Leaves brushed against your arms, damp and cool, and roots twisted beneath your feet like they were trying to trip you.
ââŚThis place is insane,â you muttered under your breath.
Rockruff moved ahead of you, slower now. More cautious. His tail still wagged, but lower, ears flicking at every sound.
You kept one hand slightly out, ready to grab him if needed.
The deeper you went, the more the forest seemed to close in around you. The trees grew thicker. Taller. The light dimmed just enough to make everything feel⌠off.
You stepped into a clearing.
The sounds you heard earlier are now all around you. And you were right, these arenât PokĂŠmon, no, but they are close enough for you to compare some of them.
One had a thick skull, something like a Cranidos, but bulkier. Heavier. Another, farther back, moved with long, elegant strides, its shape almost resembling an Aurorus, but its body shimmered in a way that felt⌠wrong. Almost as if it was trying to lure you closer.
You shook your head to get rid of the creepy thought.
You didnât move, didnât speak either. Because something about this felt way bigger than you.
Itâs like you had stepped into a world that had existed long before you, and would keep going long after. After a minute of contemplation, you decided to explore the edges around the clearing, staying out of sight but still present.
Everything was mostly going fine, sure, the creatures were scary, but most werenât hostile. The only hostile creature you encountered was a pissed-off snake that you ran away from before it could do any damage.
As you neared the other side of the clearing, the angle from here was much better, which allowed you to see the bigger creatures that were hidden before. But that's the issue, you sadly didn't think about yet.
It was low. Sharp. It cuts straight through your thoughts.
You turned your head towards Rockruff in confusion. âWhat?â
He wasnât looking at the clearing anymore.
He was looking to your right.
And slowly, you matched where his gaze landed. And tilted your head up, up, and up. And then your breath caught.
The creature standing there was enormous. It looked almost exactly like a Tyrantrum, but bigger. Real. Its body blocked out the light, casting a shadow over you that made your skin go cold.
For one second. You couldnât move. Then it shifted, and that one movement was enough.
You didnât think. You just grabbed Rockruff and bolted. Branches snapped around you. Leaves tore at your arms. The ground dipped and rose unpredictably, forcing you to adjust with every step.
Loud enough to shake your chest and the ground beneath you, which made you stumble a bit, but you caught your bearings and continued sprinting.
âDonât stop!â you shouted, setting Rockruff down so he could run beside you. He darted forward, fast and low, keeping pace.
The ground trembled with each step the creature took. The presence alone of the creature was enough to make you extremely anxious and scared.
You could hear the footsteps getting closer as you push your body to go faster.Â
Then you hear them getting closer.
âRockruffâSwift!â You say in a moment of desperation and needing a distraction for both of you to get away.
He skidded slightly, turned, and launched glowing stars back toward the creature. They struck its body in quick bursts of lightâ
and did almost nothing. The creature didnât even react, no flinch in pain, not even a slight scratch, nothing.
âOkay, cool, good to know!â you breathed, already turning and running again. You and Rockruff dodged, rolled, and sprinted away, trying to lose it.
You veered left. Then right. But nothing worked; the trees thinned ahead. You pushed through.
A wall of trees. Thick. Twisted together so tightly, there wasnât a gap big enough to squeeze through. âNoâno, noââ The ground shook again. Rockruff stepped in front of you, growling.
And the creature didnât even flinch. Its tail moved. Fast.
You barely had time to react.
You threw yourself forward, hitting the ground hard as you caught him midair. The impact knocked the breath out of you, but you held onto him, curling slightly to shield him.
Rockruff shifted weakly in your arms. Not badly hurt. But shaken.
You couldnât send him back out there, there's no way. That would be a death sentence. But what else could you do? You tried every non-lethal way, and you really didnât want to hurt the animal. It was instinct, it's just the way they're wired. We are food its not their fault, but it hurt Rockruff, so you have no other choice.
Your hand moved before you could think.
And swiped the first out of 6 poke balls on your right side. Your fingers pressed the center, and it expanded instantly in your hand.
You stood, breath uneven, heart pounding in your ears.
âYou made me do this⌠Im sorry,â you say in sympathy, looking at the bloodthirsty dinosaur in front of you.
The creature stepped closer, but you didnât look away. Then you threw the ball.
The pokeball burst open in mid-air.
A towering silhouette with razor-sharp teeth emerges from the blue, blinding light. Its figure was distorted and hunched up as if waiting for a command to strike; the midnight blue color of it contracted its surroundings heavily. His claws are digging deep into the earth. His wings spread slightly, not fully extended, but enough to make his presence clear.
âGarchompâŚâ you say sternly, looking at your partner.
âGrr,â he replies, waiting.
âUse crunch.â You say, looking straight at him.
His maw breaks open, and a crazed look appears in his eyes. He almost appears directly behind the dinosaur with incredible agility, and before the dinosaur has time to react, he bites down.
The creature roars in pain, trying to buck Garchomp off, but he just digs his fangs in deeper into the creature's neck, blood running down his jaws.
Until finally you hear a sickening âCrunchâ, and the dinosaur goes limp in the jaws of your partner pokemon. You look away in shame at a life lost, but you had no other choice.
You crouch down, looking at a trembling Rockruff, and pick him up into your arms.
Garchomp stood still for a moment longer. Then he turned. And walked toward you.
Head down as if he had done something wrong.
You beckon him closer and pet him on the head. âHey, I gave you the command, it wasnât anything you did, okay?â you say with seriousness. He looks at you as if checking to see if you're hurt, and then nods his head while looking down at the rockruff in your arms.
ââŚHow are you asleep right now?â
Garchomp let out a low huff.
It almost sounded like a laugh.
He looked around the clearing, taking in the surroundings, then back at you. His head tilted slightly.
You let out a breath you hadnât realized you were holding.
âOkay,â you said, voice still a little shaky. âSo. Quick update.â
You adjusted Rockruff in your arms, holding him more securely.
âWeâre not home. Obviously. There are dinosaurs. Also obvious. One of them just tried to eat us.â
You narrowed your eyes at him.
âDonât give me that look. Iâm suffering enough.â
You could swear he rolled his eyes.
You shifted Rockruff to one arm and reached out, resting your hand against Garchompâs head. His skin was warm. Solid. Real.
âHey,â you said more quietly. âThanks.â
He leaned into the touch just slightly.
Then pulled back, glancing upward.
â...Yeah,â you muttered. âWe should probably move.â
You both seemed to come to the same conclusion at the same time.
You didnât know how long.
But eventually, you found a small clearing near a freshwater lake. Safe enough. Open enough to see anything coming.
Garchomp handled most of the hunting.
You gathered berries nearby, checking each one carefully before adding it to your small pile. Rockruff woke halfway through, stretching and immediately sticking close to your side.
By the time you were done, you had enough.
You built a small fire with Garchompâs help, hands moving almost automatically as you focused on something normal. Something simple.
The flames flickered to life.
You sat back slightly, watching it for a moment.
Rockruff curled up beside you.
Garchomp settled nearby, not too close, but close enough.
You divided the food between you.
Just the crackle of the fire.
The soft sound of breathing.
And the distant, steady rhythm of waves.
You leaned back slightly, staring up through the gaps in the trees at the darkening sky.
ââŚTomorrowâs going to be worse, isnât it?â
Rockruff made a soft sound in his sleep.
Garchomp didnât answer.
