excuse me, how do you draw eyes?
Good question!so, I start off with the upper lida nice lookin curve, you can draw it as long or as curved as you want.
then the bottom lid!I also thickened the top lid so it looks like this person has some gorgeous eyelashes. you can play around with the lines you draw for the lids to make different eye shapes by lengthening them, shortening them, how much they curve, what angle they’re at etc
More eyelashes!! I also draw the bottom lashes on a separate line a little lower than the bottom lid, this makes it look like the lid has some thickness.
iris time, anywhere you want. Even if your person is looking directly ahead don’t put the iris in the middle without touching the lids other wise you’ll end up with a mile long death stare, unless of course that’s what you want.If I’m drawing someone looking to the side or up or down I tend to squash the iris a little bit into an oval, just to push the direction, but this is up to you.
The upper lid is placed just above the lash line on the upper lid. you can define this line as much or as little as possible but the key thing to remember is that it must not connect to the inner corner of the eye unless you are drawing a monolid. I usually use two lines for the upper lid. This part is optional but I have a habit of adding a line under the inner corner of the eye to indicate bags or a little more form to the lower lid.
Eyebrow!!! I’e gone for a surprised look so I’ve drawn my eyebrow quite high and arched. I also closed of the inner corner of the eye a little to make the eye appear round.
Make use of those lids and eyebrows to get different expressions!
when the eyes are closed and relaxed they look like this.large upper lid space, eyelashes point down and out, lash line curves down in the middle. If your character is screwing their eyes shut the lash line can curve upwards in the middle.
from ¾ the eye on the furthest side becomes slightly smaller and is sometimes partially obscured by the bridge of the nose
from a profile view the process is a little differentstart with the curve of the eyeball, then draw both lids so you end up with something that looks like a fat pizza slice
next we draw the crease for the upper lid, draw a small line upwards for the curve of the lid then a longer line towards the corner of the eye. the bottom lid can be thickened and shown to be protruding by adding a small curved line at the front of the eye. I also ‘cheated’ by adding a pointed line at the corner to look like lashes.
eyebrow and iris! your eyebrows main mass will be concentrated towards the forehead and should not be longer than the eye itself. If your person is looking straight forwards then the iris will be a very squashed oval.
I hope this helps you draw eyes! , if you need more information on this topic feel free to drop me a message!
