Fuck shame. Shame dies when stories are told in safe spaces.

Just because something’s been done one way forever doesn’t mean it shouldn’t change. It’s called evolution.

Research has shown that a lot of childhood diseases could have been caused by some kind of environmental exposure. Contaminants, pesticides, solvents. We have the solution to prevent pain and loss, but instead we just keep making it worse.

We shouldn’t have to hide who we are in order to practice medicine.

One-size-fits-all solutions don’t always work. Every patient is different. Just like every person is different.

And that’s on you. And you know it’s on you. Feeling sorry for yourself doesn’t save lives. You aren’t gonna get better until you take the time to find out why you did what you did. You blew up your life and profoundly hurt and humiliated the man that you love. You need to take inventory. Name your demons. Clean up your messes you may not be able to get things back the way they were, but if you honestly look at yourself, major you won’t repeat the same pattern again.

What matters now is what you do about it. You’re the chief of trauma. If the protocols don’t work, then read, learn, question… and change them.

She is a light in a broken system that she will fix, whether you want her to or not. She is the sun and she is unstoppable.

Because medicine is changing constantly. You’re the person who taught me that. Everyone here needs to be able to change along with it or get left behind.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s that it only takes one person, one patient, one moment to change your life forever. To change your perspective, colour your thinking, to give you to re-evaluate everything you think you know. To make you ask yourself the toughest questions. Do you know who you are? Do you understand what has happened to you? Do you want to live this way?

You tell her she’s beautiful just the way she is, and if she believes you, you’ve saved someone an unnecessary surgical procedure. But it’s how you talk to a woman, Avery. We’re in the business of making people feel better about themselves. She’s a person on the precipice of change, Avery. She’s scared and she’s worried. God, the things we worry about. So pointless. And we get to help take that worry away. It’s why we’re doctors. It’s actually why we’re people, but somehow we forget that all that matters is people. And whether we walk away leaving them better or worse for having met us. We control that, Avery.

It’s not about making friends, but it is about getting them on your side. You want to be the person they come to, not the one they run from.

I like thanksgiving. A day people spend with their families. Too many family time triggers depression, repressed childhood rage, bitter disputes over the remote, and way too much alcohol. People get stupid. People get violent. People get hurt.

I read somewhere that we choose what we believe, and what we use for energy to is up to us.

When you run away, you lose. And to win, you have to face them head on.

Only an open hand can receive good things.

Everybody looks like they’re talking to themselves. It’s talking to each other we have trouble with.
