Happy Tails

We adopted Sasha in the month of May. We originally went to Animal Humane Society to look for an older cat, and we came across Sasha and her siblings. She was the only one that didn’t run from us. She warmed up quickly. She loves playing, roaming around, being silly, and being very vocal. She especially loves any type of treat. We are forever grateful that we got to adopt her. She is so loved.

I came into Animal Humane Society just to look at cats, not really expecting to find the one. Since my divorce and having to unexpectedly leave my cats behind, I just wasn’t sure I’d ever be ready to connect with another cat again. I had tried fostering a couple of cats but ended up moving them to new homes because, truthfully, I was just too heartbroken.

I don’t know if it was time or fate, but the moment I saw Rocky, I just had to meet him. I had just seen Project Hail Mary the weekend before, and the name alone felt like a calling to me.

Meeting Rocky was the best day. He’s the sweetest, cuddliest boy ever. He never showed any shyness with me, either. As soon as I opened his crate, he made himself right at home and has done so ever since. He is incredibly clingy. Where I go, he goes, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thank you to Rocky and Animal Humane Society for allowing me to give this beautiful, silly boy a home.

I adopted Meryl, a white cat. Her new name is Pearl. She was very shy and hid for most of the first week. Now, almost four weeks later, she runs through the house with my other cat and plays very well. She loves playing with toys.

I have a window open, and they both sit there looking out. She is sweet, lovable, playful, and eats very well.

Both cats are extremely happy, and so am I.

We adopted Taco on May 24 and renamed him Seby (after the 2021 second-string White Sox catcher, Seby Zavala). The name is extremely fitting because, although he is not a first-string-level athlete, he certainly tries his best! From the moment we met him, he had our hearts, and we knew we would not leave without him. Seby is extremely chatty, loves playing with his favorite toy (a hair tie), and runs a very strict biscuit-making program on his favorite blanket each night. He frequently gets the zoomies and likes to run from the hallway into the bedroom, back out, and up to his cat tree. We are so grateful to everyone at Animal Humane Society!

I was looking to adopt older guinea pigs so I could give them a loving home to enjoy for the rest of their lives. Winnie (brown) and Frankie (white) have settled in beautifully and have quickly stolen my heart. They love their treats, look forward to their daily cuddles, and are thriving in their new home.

My husband and I talked about adopting a cat for a while. My coworkers knew I was looking at cats, and one actually recommended Animal Humane Society’s Woodbury location to me! My husband and I went on a Saturday and looked at the cats. Marvin came up and sniffed our hands! In the room, he went and jumped up on my husband’s lap right away! He started purring, too. We knew right away he was coming home with us. He only hid from us the first day, but after that, he was out and about exploring his new home. He loves to cuddle with us! I’ll come home from work, sit on the couch, and he jumps up right away and purrs while he gets pets and kisses from me. He’s very social, and our friends like to play with him when they visit. He likes following people around the house. He’s a little shadow and must be part of the action. He loves taking naps in his cat tree, where he makes a perfect circle. He’s the sweetest cat. I’m so glad he’s my first pet ever! He’s the best cuddle bug :)

We adopted Mr. Meow (originally PigsEye) about a month ago. We had just recently lost one of our family cats and stopped by Animal Humane Society to look. The second day of looking we saw him again in his room meowing and we knew he was coming home with us.

Once we got him home, he warmed up very fast to us and our dog. He’s quite playful, loves to explore and is a cat that’s got a lot to say which we love. He is the perfect addition to our family and we are so thankful to get to love him and be loved by him.

Hi! I wanted to share an update on Lady, formerly Victoria, a Beagle from the Ridglan Farms case. Lady has officially been home for just a few days and has made incredible strides! Every day she seems a little braver and a little more confident.

She's discovered that couches are apparently the ideal location for naps, and she has started collecting and rearranging her stuffed animals into her bed so she can cuddle with them. Lady loves watching TV. We watched Lady and the Tramp on her first night home, and that's how we picked her new name. She seemed much more interested in watching that than Love Island USA (understandably so)!

She's eating like a champ, has picked up leash walking like an absolute superstar, and hasn't had a single accident in the house! She's been learning household routines so quickly and seems determined to figure out this whole "pet dog" thing.

With slow introductions, she's already made friends with some of the neighboring dogs, and she's become very curious about the humans in our apartment building too. She likes to carefully sniff everyone out and has quickly learned that many people are willing to provide pets on demand.

Watching her experience all these little joys and freedoms for the first time has been such a privilege. I knew adopting a research beagle would be rewarding, but I don't think I was prepared for just how much joy she would bring into my life in such a short time. I feel incredibly lucky to be her person!

Thank you for helping save my Lady!

After we had to say goodbye to our 14-year-old Schnauzer, Bono, and later lost my beloved Poodle, JJ, in Venezuela at the age of 14 as well, my heart was broken. They were much more than pets — they were my babies and a huge part of my life.

Even through all the sadness and grief, I found myself looking for a little bit of puppy love. When we visited Animal Humane Society, we met Willie, who is now Kylo. From the moment we met him, there was something special about him.

Kylo is the sweetest, most loving, and kind-hearted dog. He brought joy back into our lives when we needed it most. He is truly our rainbow dog— a beautiful reminder that love can find its way back to us, even after loss.

I lost my long-time cat daughter Sophie to a tumor, I had resigned myself to not have another pet. Friends convinced me otherwise and I stumbled into the Coon Rapid's Animal Humane Society to look at a specific cat I had seen online. Fortunately, Nura, now Sadie, allowed none of that as she repeatedly face-butted the plexiglass wall of her containment room to get my attention. I now have a cat who stares at herself in the mirror for hauntingly long periods of time and enjoys eating horse flies. She is amazing. Thank you so much for bringing us together. Rita and the staff at Coon Rapids Humane Society are exceptional.
