Twirling into another year around the sun on Pink Street in Lisbon. Couldn’t think of a more colorful way to celebrate! 💃 Rua Nova do Carvalho is the official name of Lisbon’s Pink Street, and lies in the popular neighborhood Cais do Sodre. Cais do Sodre used to be Lisbon’s Red-Light District. You can still encounter some shady parts of its history while visiting at night. The drug offerings were so common that we were curious if it was legal in Portugal to sell it on street corners. My trip to Portugal was an early birthday gift to myself and I decided to finally hire a local photographer to capture some of the amazing locations around Lisbon. I was wrong… I was arrogant… I thought I was untouchable and didn’t want to wear a mask…. And then I was diagnosed with Covid and felt like I got hit by a truck…. I am fully vaccinated since March of 2021 and 5 months later I got Covid. I was exposed to Covid during a 40 min car drive with someone that is not vaccinated and was exposed to someone that was diagnosed with COVID-19. This information was not disclosed to me. We did not wear masks or opened windows. Three days later - sore throat. The next day - runny nose and I decided to go get tested. The body ache and fever started that night. I thought to myself: “ I know this feeling. This is how I felt when I got my second shot of the vaccine.” The next day test results came in and I tested positive and my symptoms has gotten worse. I started feeling nauseous I had fever and I was vomiting. I had zero appetite and lost my sense of smell and taste. I didn’t know if it was because I was congested or because of Covid. I couldn’t get out of bed. I couldn’t eat, and was super dehydrated. It felt like no matter how much I hydrated, it wasn’t enough. It was 10 days of misery and I didn’t truly feel like myself till 14 days after. I got re-tested and it came back negative. My sense of taste and smell came back once the congestion was gone. I now have double protection and I know that I can still get Covid but the vaccine prevented a hospital visit. I do not wish this upon anyone. Please stay safe and be transparent and honest with everyone if there is a potential of exposure to the virus. Let’s take care of each other.
